Pidgeot was vital in just about every deck. Claydol not being vital in SP decks IMO prove that it isn't as good as Pidgeot. The best types of decks out last format didn't really run it. It is a beast and both Pidgeot and Dol are the best search/draw pokemon of all time, but getting any one card you want per turn versus getting any extra 2-3 cards per turn(on average)..ill take the any 1 card..but either can be argued like previously stated.@Supert-tar: Consider the wide playability spread for the time. I wasn't a huge player in those days, but decks like FLariaos were able to function without Pidgeot to my knowledge. When Claydol hit the format, there really wasn't a point to running a Stage 1/2 deck without it. Not to mention it was played in nearly every possible combination (1-1, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3, 3-4, 4-4) depending on the deck.

I stand corrected. I didn't really play last season..but I ran into no SP decks during States/Cities that used Claydol in their builds, then anything I heard of after that didn't run Claydol either. But that probably was just in NE..I stand corrected.SP did run Claydol. I ran SP all last season and didn't go to a single tournament that I didn't play Claydol in. EVERY DialgaChomp used it, and LuxChomp had no problem fitting it in and using it to counter Judge/attract Dragon Rushes in mirror. Don't tell me that it wasn't used in SP.
Pidegot...well, Ludicargo, T2 decks, anything using Battle Frontier or LunaSol, etc. didn't use Pidgeot. That's a decent chunk of the format. Don't get me wrong, Pidegot was AMAZING, but wasn't in ANY WAY as ubiquitous as Claydol.
Top 5 will be SER, Oak, Comp. Search, Gust, and Cleffa (has that been used yet?).
Pidgeot >> Claydol.
There's still a lot of good cards we haven't seen yet..the top 20 will be interesting.
