What you just described happens against the majority of decks (theres barely any energy excel next format). Ususally, lanturn gets 2 free hits on that pokemon that your attaching energy to. Thats 60 damage. Then anything else can come up and do the remaining 60-whatever and then start the combo spreading. Lanturn has 90 hp, which is good enough to surivive alot more hits then people give credit for. And do people realize that lanturn can hit for 80 damage itself?? Its not that bad of an attacker. Just a great spreader. The fact that it almost never happens that way is what makes it bad. If they see Lanturn, don't you think they would stop attaching to everybody trying to set up? Most of the time you'll probably get 30 on 1 or 2 of their guys. And Lanturn is too fragile to keep that up for more than 2 turns most of the time.
I will say that I think you're headed in the right direction with Deoxys though. It's a solid answer to Leafeon and Neo-Plox.
