Well after getting permision from POP to post this last night over the phone I guess I will be the barer of the news.

Prerelease tournaments have taken a drastic, but I see it as a good change in prizes.

Now for showing up you get the six packs to build a deck, and then after the tournament is over you get 4 packs more of the product plus you get 2 POP Series one tournament packs. This you get no matter where you are in the tournament.

Winners will receive a trophy, plaque or similar item.

So now you get 10 packs plus 2 Tournament packs no matter where you place. Bad thing is you can't earn a box anymore. But 10 packs plus the tournament packs for $2 a pack isn't bad. Plus you get to play in a tournament!!

So what do you think?????

Do I understand correctly that this applies only to Prerelease tournaments?

So the prize structure at other premiere events (City & State Championships, for example) will remain as it is now?

Is there any other incentive to placing in the top 8 of your age division???

They haven't announced the prize structure for the other tournaments. However from what I understand this is only for prerelease tournaments.

Not sure about the other top places if they get anything. From the email I got I am going to say no, but I may be wrong. I just know that the packs and the trophy like item are correct. I also know that the other places don't get additional packs of the prerelease product. Everyone gets the same thing as far as the prerelease product goes.

This may make the prerelease tourneys have a lower turnout. I know of many people who go to the prereleases bc there is the prospect of getting a whole box if you win! This is what separated PTCG from many other TCGs, the latest prize structure. If they go back to trophys and a few packs, you may lose that building interest from other TCGs. Many people are coming back to Pokemon bc they heard what the prizes were at Worlds, the GCs, CCs, Pre's, etc.

Would this have anything to do with 1-2 players showing up in the 10- division and GUARENTEED at least 1/2 a box?

I'm not so much for this... I mean I am but I'm not I don't like how little you can get now... but Derek you are right it's not horrible to pay 2 bux a pack and then raise rating... the prize support could be better for it I guess but I don't know if I'm going to go to prereleases so much.... if I do it won't be for the prizes it'll be so I can see my friends.

Not really - that can still happen at CCs & GCs in out-of-the-way locations...

This was discussed at the PTO meeting at Origins/National Championships in - what - June? (or was it July?) It's just a modification in prize structure after POP has taken a year to gather data and analyse the results...

So let me get this straight...

I go to a pre-Release event...

I pay $15.00 and I am GUARANTEED 10 packs of product PLUS two OP packs?

That comes to $1.25 per pack.

That should SHOOT my 10- attendance, as all will get the same!

Let's face it - the GREAT players will still want the trophy!

Man - we will need more boxes that we use to do this - 9 boxes only means prize support for 81 players - I hope PUI will use some semblance of fairness when doling out prize support product.

I don't like it that much, it skrews me outta my old plans...

lol, I like the idea of a graduated prize structure. I would like to see everyone get at least some prizes after a tournament, with the top players getting somewhat more. Something like, 4 packs for all players, 10 for 3-4, 15 for 2, and 20 for 1.

If I won a pre-release, I rather get a box than a trophy... Trophies should only be given out in non-limited tourneys. imo.

Bullados, so much for keeping attendance down, and bringing in 10- to "seal" your prizes LOL.

Finally, a structure that DOES NOT punish the larger events (of which I only had 1).

How depressing was it to hear about 2 and 1 10- player being guaranteed half a box, when they did not know a mankey from a monkey, when you were fighting against the 37 10- players at your event, including 4 of the top 40 in the world! (3 of the top 16)

Now we will get those players all to come back, knowing they will get a HUGE bang for their buck. What we will discourage are the travelling players (Ben I am looking at you) who went to these events to win several boxes, all at $15 a pop.

The math works.

This is so cool! I am so happy! Now I will definately try to go to multiple pre-releases! Now I will get more holos! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! *accidentally rams head into monitor*

I like Monkeys  :p

It makes sence to do it this way. Some past prerelease tournaments have had attendence in the teens. Does it make sence for PUI to send a 14 player tournament 8 boxes for support, not to me. This will make it so everyone gets something, and the POP packs are a next little extra.

Well, I do think its a good idea to an extent...

Here at Pastimes, we tend to have pre-releases for $20 per person (Now Ice and Soslow, Im not complaining. Im only mentioning the price). So if I were to enter a pre-release from now on, I would be guaranteed, Like Meg45 said, 12 Booster packs no matter what...

I think its a good idea, expecially since you also get a trophy/plaque/something else to show that you made it to "#" place.

The only thing I dont like, as Bullados mentioned, is that the chance of winning half a box or a full box has completely been removed and the only way to earn that is npw through City/State/Regional/World championships
