Aren't you Mr. Cool...

No, seriously, I really keep forgetting a round. lol

Play 9 rounds of intense games and see how well you remember stuff. After a while all my games kind of seem the same.

I just saw that there were people from Ohio, Florida, and Texas at this event. Texas, really? wow. Why don't people ever tell me these things at the events? :frown: . Pretty neat that they chose to come to us.

Now, how do people from Ohio, Florida, and Texas who probably don't visit Virginia very often find the tournament location while SuperWooper, who lives in Virginia, gives up ater getting lost?

Props:
Tim F. making a correct ruling.
Don't celebrate my "correct" ruling yet. I cannot find the ruling as cited in the compendium so I don't know why I was deemed to be correct  (although that doesn't mean the messenger was not incorrect  ).

Slops:
Going all the way up to States to play two people I play aganist at league.
My league players get paired against each other at premier events all the time. They then look at me and ask if it'll count for league points  .

Props:

I see you forgot that I was judging?

Hey! How I eat my lunch is none of your concern

Everyone who was playing soccer too near the top cut. Any flying objects that come that near to games next week, I'm keeping. You have been warned.
Wouldn't it have just been easier to give them a penalty?

No, the warning was the penalty. Next time it'll be a yellow flag. Or card. Yeah it's probably card. I DON'T DO SOCCER!!!

Judge's Thoughts on VA States

Ok, so normally, by the end of a big tournament, I don't want to hear the word Pokeman for at least 2 weeks. As much as I enjoy seeing everyone, I am normally a bit burnt out by the end of the day.
a
I can say this was most definitely not the case this go around. I was tired, yes, but there is no way I wouldn't have been after that long a day and only getting 3 hours of sleep. I was however energized about the Pokemans, and was already looking forward to playing MD states next weekend. This strange phenomenon led me to reflect on the day and I found, to my great surprise, that I can honestly say that VA states this year was the most enjoyable tournament I have judged in a long time. So I gotta give my props up to everyone who made it so.

1. To the Tuskeys. They are just an amazing family. To travel as much as they do and to put so much of their time into getting these events together and then making sure they run as smoothly as posible, for players and staff alike, is amazing to me. Most players don't know what goes into getting any event together, let alone one the size of states. But because I am usually on the judging side, I see it, and can tell you that it is a lot of work. And when 1 or 2 people in a family get so deep into a game like this, it trully becomes a complete family affair. My hats (if i wore them) off to the Tuskeys, for consistently doing an amazing job, and reminding me why I continue to play/judge and support this game. (Awesome Kareoke, David)

2. The Event Staff. We judges/players could never do these events without you. All of you did an amazing job, with match slip running, running the computers, and all the other things you do. Since I was judging, I didn't necessarily get to see all of those functions, but I know that we would never have been able to pull this off alone. A special thanks to Mary Ivey for the incredible amount of work she put into getting things like the venue and the girl scouts organized for us.

3. To the Players. I know, it sounds weird coming from big mean Leah, but I do wish to thank all of you. Things ran very smoothly and there were few major issues that required Judge interference. and those that did; our rulings were supported without a big battle or too much arguing. The energy level also stayed high and positive, which in turn helped me to stay a bit more upbeat than normal, and while physically exhausted, I was not as mentally and spiritually drained as I normally am by the end of one of these events. The creativity of the decks I saw, both in check and throughout the day, has inspired me as well, and I am looking forward to trying some of them(with my own twists of course). A special thanks to everyone who helped us clean up. Judging takes a LOT out of you, and the thought of having to break all those tables and chairs down at the end of the tourney was enought to make me almost cry. The fact that it was done by the time top cuts rolled around was awesome, and I seriously cannot thank you all enough for pitching in.

4. To my fellow judges. We all get along very well and worked as a well-oiled machine yesterday, even the judges that I have not judged with previously. Many thanks to Javier, our head Judge for the day, and especially to the Maryland judges who pitched in. It was one less worry, knowing that all age groups would be well covered by knowledgable and friendly people. I truly enjoy working with all of the judges at these events, and yesterday was no different, with mabe the exception of that trouble-maker Tim Foley (hehe, we all know I am kidding).

5. A heartfelt thanks to all of the parents who came out, both to play and to watch and wait for their kids. It is a long day, and the fact that you made the effort to come out there and spend your day in support of our event also means a lot to me. I truly believe that Pokemon is a great game for the skills and values that it brings, so it is always nice to see parents that support their kids for being involved in these events.

6. To the VFD at which our event was held and to the girl scouts who were there almost all day selling food. Again, we could never have held this event without you. (Thin Mints FTW)

So yes, I can honestly say I enjoyed this year's VA states more than I have enjoyed any tournament in recent memory. If I have left anyone off of the thank you list, I do apologize. It is incredible to see the number of different factors that go into organizing an event of this proportion, and the fact that all of them came together so seemlessly into Saturday's event was just amazing. I look forward to seeing many of you this Saturday at MD states.

The Princess has Spoken.

Congratulations to all the winners!

This was a very well run event. The staff did a great job! You guys were enthusiastic and friendly through the whole event. The rounds moved smoothly once the ball got rolling. The judging was good, although a little harsh on the new deck position rule. I'm guessing that was more a reflection of POP’s decision, or it was a bigger problem than I was aware of.

The venue had plenty of space to play. The concession stand was awesome and very reasonably priced.

My son and I had some really exciting matches against some really nice people. This is always a good combination.

Also, it was nice chatting with all the parents. This helps me keep sane during the later hours.

Hopefully, we’ll see most of you at MD States.

Thanks,

Leah, we all know that's only because I let you rub my wrinkly bald head! HAHA. Seriously, it WAS a great event for us Pokedads, because of the Tuskeys of course, and because of all of you guys judging and running the event. JD and I had a great time, so THANK YOU to all of you!

I've said this time and time again. I think he thinks I'm just kissing up, but I don't do kissing up.
(especially not to a dude) but ... anyway...

I lurk around and read how other places around the world do not have well-run tourneys and the Tuskey family puts it down like "WHAT!" everytime. <== I'm brushing up on my Randy Jackson

It's also FANTASTIC to see Patrick T come back into the game with guns-a-blazin'
He's come too far in this Pokemon thing to let it go (this could pay for college before he even goes to college!! I hope he understands this.

I had no idea how many parents just sit there and WAIT... hour after hour.. .after hour...
That's incredible support right there. No book. No busy work. Just watching on and hoping their children are enjoying themselves. Wonderful.

Okay, fine then

Interesting decks in top 8. I'm amazed that even Johnathan Anderson could do so well with Torterra in a metagame so SP dominated.(Dialga G X) Gigas............ wow. I didn't think it'd do too good after Citys, I guess I was wrong.
