IMO i think its incredibly overhyped.
120 for holding 4 specific cards and being at risk to getting donked by Lando doesnt sound that amazing. The deck has nothing but low HP Pokemon. Its incredibly underwhelming and will just be a fun deck at best.
I thought that too, but it seems to be doing well in Japan.
Let's see, how would Weavile/Exeggcute do well in Japan? Weavile discards SO many cards that its crazy. So, Electrode can draw a good amount of cards, as well as cards like Cheren, Professor Juniper, N, Colress, etc. . Let's not forget this is 120 EVERY turn GUARANTEED. That's crazy considering that it can possibly get started on Turn 2 and knock out everything in 2 shots or lower EXCEPT for a Black Kyurem EX with a Crystal Wall. I honestly think that the deck's speed is what is so good about it. Thus, making it do well in Japan.
Weavile only discards Pokemon though and your deck only runs so many, so how are you getting so much damage off all the time? And how do you consistently get 4 Exeggcute to your disposal?
Im not understanding the consistency of it. Nor do I understand how this deck endures anything. Everything in the deck is low HP. And again, does Japan not play big Basics? How does this deck deal with things like Lando and Tornadus? Or even Mewtwo with lasers? That to me is just a mystery, since no other low HP decks have thrived this format so i cant see how this deck is thriving.
Exeggcute's ability makes you get off 120 every turn. Same concept of Gyarados, just with movement of cards. Reason it does so well? You knock out EX's for 2 prizes, they knock out your guys for only 1 prize. It keeps up well, and is fast at running threw the deck to get the guys into your hand/discard (Juniper/Level Balls/ Ultra Balls, etc).
Or your opponent plays a Garbodor with a tool and all of your eggs are instantly rendered useless...main counter I see to this deck is if you dont get the eggs safely into your discard and your opponent N's
Being fragile is not always reason enough to ruin the viability of a card in a format. For example. Jumpluff in 2010 was a very good, tier 1 deck that was VERY fragile. It won by swarming Jumpluffs quickly and winning close prize trades. It expected to get KOd every turn, but it could recover instantly between Candy/BTS and 2 or 3 Claydol + Night Maintenance. Weavile is very similar to this, but it gets the added bonus of being a Stage 1 and existing in a format almost entirely dominated by EXs. So trading 1 for 1 on Pokemon is essentially trading 1 for 2 on prizes, which is really fantastic. This is not 120 guaranteed. This 120 IF there are no Exeggcute prized (since we have no way to get it out other than by taking a prize outright) and IF you have managed to get them all out of your deck. I can see this working, and I can see it being fun... but isn't weavile just to fragile?
