PA: It wouldn't be wagering on games in a POP event though, just games of Pokemon. I still wouldn't advise broadcasting a desire to gamble on Pokemon games in front of the entire Pokegym community though.
 
Mikey, make sure to talk about the iniative and fundraising with your local Mission Gym. We are getting pretty good at fundraising and might be able to help organize that end and provide sponsorship. Sounds like a blast...

Mike - be very clear what that $5 donation is going to be spent upon, because some of the mods are leary of this sort of thing. If you can make it a fundraiser for a worthy cause, you are welcome to it. However if it's just for keeping a spot for them, without any tangible goal in mind, then that's not good.

I'm gonna second this. As someone who's contacted Guinness before about records, their turn around time on contact can be anywhere from 1 week to 4-6 months. If you haven't emailed or spoken with a Guinness representative yet, you should get on that NOW. And be persistent as you cans sometimes get lost in their paperwork easily.

Couldn't help with the TPCi recommendation, but you should send them a general letter about information and ask for routing from there. That sounds like the best idea IMO.

I tried to go for a bowling record. Thought bowling for 4 days would be too much work, so I'm doing this instead.

As for the donations, I don't have any solid ideas as to what they will be going for, however 100% will be going back into the game.

Perhaps buying theme decks to donate to schools for an after school activity? Perhaps prizes to give back to the players who play in the record attempt / Those who help me out.

I would spend it on a hotel room, however I will be playing the entire time, that would be mostly useless. ;-)
 
I think the whole donation thing is lame as can be, and shouldn't be allowed. It's also pretty shady, as you've yet to say what exactly it's going to go for.


If this is allowed, what's to stop everyone from posting threads asking for donations to start leagues, etc.


If you want to attempt a record then go for it, but don't ask people for money to play that's pretty lame.

Sounds to me like you're just trying to get some extra pocket cash. I'm not sure why the mods haven't put a stop to this yet, it's alot worse than some of the things I've heard of being moderated lately

Woah dude calm down. He said it wasn't for pocket money. Even if it was, what SO wrong with that. He's going through the trouble of reserving people a spot, and he's going through the trouble of the whole thing. I don't see anything wrong with people donating money straight to his pocket. If I were attending, I would. I really don't see a huge problem with that.

And if that's what he's going to do with it, I'm ALL for it!

You have absolutely no right to accuse him of being shady, not only do you have absolutely no proof as such, it is very innapropriate to post this on the thread. Nobody has any room to question his intentions even more so if he says he intends to donate the money, not to mention how ridiculous it sounds that this some kind of master plan in order to make money. There are plenty of better ways to do so. There are also better ways to voice this opinion to those who would actually have the power to do something about this, ie PMing mods, and not openly accusing him of wrongful acts. You also should've pointed out that even if he intends to put the money towards a donation it would still be considered advertisment which is the only actual way you can fault him on this, not that he would want the money for myself.

I am a firm believer that asking for cash donation is on a public forum like this, with no guarantee of where it is going is WRONG. If he plans to use it to start a school activity than a better way to go about it would be to ask for theme deck donations or something like that.

what trouble is the whole thing? It's not like he is planning on reserving a banquet room to play it, he's playing in the spot that is going to be provided by TPCi. No one is FORCING him to sit there and play
