Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds Being On TV????

we could do feature matches and stream them online/write reports and take pictures post standings pairings etc.

It would definetly be cool if Cartoon Network dedicated a couple days to broadcasting worlds. they show all the pokemon movies and stuff, this would really draw alot of players to the game.

Actually, seeing stuff like that can make people not want to play. One time they did that with a few other card games I wanted to play, and the things they did in the commercials just wanted me not to play it.

Now why would someone seeing your strategy make it worthless?

Clearly, unless you were playing an uber rogue deck, SOMEONE has already seen you deck played before. There is no way someone is going to miraculously say: "Oh!!! Plox works by locking powers from T1!!! I CAN BEAT IT NOW!" That is highly unlikely. Besides, hopefully these games would be the top cut, and current competitors wouldn't be able to view them, so you wouldn't have anything to fear of someone figuring out your secret tech.

I can understand camera shyness, but strategies are strategies, they are pretty much common across the board

Someone here mentioned the world series, and everyone can make their strategy, not on their own moves but on what they know what the opponent is going to do. Again world series of poker: they see someone playing, they decide to start playing. "That's easy. Let me do that." Now they see your deck and copy it to the best they can, then now they have a junk deck that won't beat nobody. That is the same example of the all those poker shows. Then they win by flucks that never should have happened. Then you also see your deck and strategies, not for the tournament, but for your deck. That makes more and more bad players. Nowi know that there are bad players that don't try to learn, but how many bad players take the effort to come to a website. Many, but how many will watch a tv show? Many, too many, so that would "breed" a slew of terrible players.

In 2008 we had a TV report about our Nationals (Germany). It wasn't about the matches but about the event in General, with some short interviews to players and judges.

I think you can't, because POP is EXTREMELY strict when you do anything that can change a match. States, I was walking away from my table, Judge gave me a warning when I was leaving when he thought I was just wondering around.
This year we had features matches at Nationals. There was a kind of voluntary reporter who got a permission watch a special match each round and take notes. It worked well and his notes even helped the judges to analyze a game situation in my match.

I'm just going to address this part.

I think you are mistaken. Does TPCi printing the World Championship decks "breed a slew of terrible players?" No, it doesn't. In fact I'd wager that 'noobs' that pick up the Worlds decks see what an actual top-quality deck looks like, and learn from it, incorporating higher level strategies into their decks. I'd say that both printing those decks and showcasing Top-Cut games would help the game, rather than create bad players. In fact, if those games were even commented upon, that would greatly increase the amount younger players could learn about the game, making them better, not worse.

I completely agree with sandslash. Think back to poker again. People see how the pros play and learn from what they did. They the n apply what they have learned and it makes them a better player and gives them a better understanding of the game.

You see it one way. I see it another, so, ok. I brought in my argument, so i feel fine now. Really it depends on the person. If the person is a couch potato and doesn't want to make an effort to even try then my case will stand, but on the other hand if you have a person that eally looks at the situation instead of the cards then that could and probably would ending up being a difficult player. So, that's going to be a long sentence. So it depends on the person.

I think if they can't do it on tv, why not online??? Honestly, it would be totally awsome to have coverage of the event.

It would be nice to see Pokemon TCG world tournament on television it'll help increase the popularity, which in turn will help increase the value of my collection and yours too fellow collectors in the long run. I am hoping that if it is televised this year it'll be televised the next year to ad-infinitum. I had heard rumors months ago about Worlds being televised, I hope they're true.

thinking about it, I can do single match reports like write down what happens in a match then put it here cuz i probably won't make it to worlds but i also think cameras could affect a person's play.

Someone like me would love something like this, not me but someone like me.:thumb:

the main roadblock to doing something like that, be it on TV or on the web, is the fact that there's a ton of people around, and they would have to have the permissions of EVERYONE to be able to get video if there was a possibility of a person being in the shot, otherwise all sorts of unknown legal nightmares could pop up. at smaller things its not so difficult, they were doing it at the VG Regional I went to, having everyone in the building signing a waiver, but the sheer massive size of Worlds would make it a nightmare

not to say they wouldnt necessarily be unwilling to do it, but theres so many stipulations that it would be a nightmare

true, but they can just use there pokemon special magic to make it happen.
aka they make over 9000 $ every 5 seconds

That can also cause tension between people. One might want to be on video but another may be camera shy and say they don't want to have a camera near them. The most imprtant thing about this is that all these things have to be put into consideration and solved. You know that but it's always useful to be reminded.

I always have thought they should stream a lot more than just the final Worlds match. Like the whole top 8, but don't make it take up the whole screen. Compress each one so it takes up 1/4th of the screen. In T4, make it so each one takes up 1/2. In Finals, make each one take up the whole thing.

I remember watching the Finals at Worlds '08... AND THEY WERE SO BORING!
Every person who won 2-0'd their opponent, in all 3 divisions, with no difficulty. Their opponents all only took a couple prizes each game. No challenge, nothing interesting.

Games like Ness vs. Gino's Top 4 match should have been on the big screen. Everybody was on the edge of their seats for that match, and with good reason. Now THAT was a match that I wished I didn't have to crane my neck for.
