I usually try to stay out of conversations like this, but this time I really couldn't do that. MAinly because I find this topic a more of a "give me more for nothing thing" I really can't believe some of the complaining I have seen on prizes lately. Let alone prizes for worlds. Lets look at this shall we.
Wizards gave trips to the top one and two places of the Stadiums and Top one of Gyms correct? So I think what maybe 40 people got free trips. Then Pokemon USA takes over, sends what 200-300 people to Disney World. Pay for hotel and Airfare, and yet you still complain. Then you get there and you get a binder full of stuff just for showing up to play and you still expect more. I don't remember anyone getting this type of stuff from Wizards at the World Championships in 2002. Gee maybe next time we should play for $100,000. I am sure some would then complain if they did that too. Its like you guys are never happy.
Anyone have any idea how much just the stuff you were given costs just for winning a tournament? Give me a break. Other players that didn't go would have just been happy being there. Take our great friends in Europe and other places in the world. They sit there drooling on there screen seeing what you guys get. Anyone see any of them complaining about prizes at worlds?
Since the prerelease thing keeps coming up lets look at Pokemon compaired to Magic shall we? Especially since the Pokemon players have it so ruff now.
Magic costs around $25 for a prerelease some times more then that. You get a starter deck and 2 packs of the new set. Prizes are based on the number of people that attend. You are not garanteed a thing other then an extra pack when you leave. With upwards of about 130 people at each event I imagine thats all you would get. You think there are "sharks" in Pokemon, try playing Magic.
In Pokemon for $15-$20 you get 6 packs of cards. You now get 4 packs of cards just for showing up plus 2 packs of cards that you can't buy in stores.
Then lets look at states shall we. Pokemon States are free!! Magic States cost $25. You get a box for winning Magic States. Anyone remember what Pokemon States got?
Its like you guys and gals expect the world for nothing. It isn't how it works. They give you too much, Pokemon will end up bankrupt. They already spent over $1,000,000 on organized play last year. How much more money do you want them to spend??
I do find it interesting that the ones who keep saying prizes were not sufficient (not to over generalize) are in the 11-14 age group....
Gonna have to agree with this. I do have to agree with the complainers though. We do need just one more prize added to the prerelease tournaments and the rest of the tournaments. How about as part of the prizes we put the winners picture in there school newspaper? Maybe even the local paper. That way they get the congrats they seem to think they deserve.
[Edit] posted the above before Pop posted the "get back on subject" thing. In my opinion you get more then enough just getting to worlds. If you want better prizes then place higher. If you give too much to lower placing people, whats the point in winning??
