I believe the motive for October was so that International players would have an easier time Anyway, I think by holding this thing in the US they ARE accomodating us anyway. And ideal location for worlds would be somewhere in central Europe (Germany, France, Italy, etc) That way EVERYONE's maximum trip would be around 8 hours (with the exception of...Hawaii :()

8 hour trip... that would sure be a change from my 33 hour long trip to Worlds 2002 (no, I'm not kidding). But a World Championship in Europe is more unlikely than ever. Under Wizards' times, we at least had a European Headquarter (and an own for the UK and France, but still...) - who's going to organize a World Championship in Europe now? Pokémon USA Inc? ;)

But Worlds in Germany would be nice... If it was in Frankfurt (big city with famous international airport) it would be 1 1/2 hour of bus, then 1/2 hour of plane flight from my home in Norway.

Hmmm, Worlds is invitation only. Nationals is open to everyone.

I am more concerend tight now about getting the details on Nationals.

Any official word other than the add?

I'd love to have worlds in Europe some year. Besides North America, it's the only other logical, feasible place to have it. I've never been to Europe, but I know they have some of the best players in the world. We gotta plan that one way in advance though to maximise non-Europe player turnout. That is, unless Nintendo decides to make Worlds VERY limited (like the TMB), taking only a handful of players at company expense. FYI, the TMB invites come about 1 month before the event.

Other than maybe Las Vegas, I think Orlando airline ticket prices and convention fees are about the cheapest. It's a good business choice for Nintendo.

Well you CAN drive , sleep in your car, and play homeless kitchen if you really want a free trip. Then again there's gas money.

You know I tried that when I drove to the Queen Mary from Utah years ago when they had the STS there. Not fun sleeping in a car then playing in a tournament. You are a little crazy at the tournament and your Pokemon cards start to talk to you. :p But is it okay, the doc says Im getting better.

Just a note, the two hotels that flank the Columbus Convention Center are sold out on the dates for Origins.

If you are even thinking about going you might want to make a reservation. You can always cancel if you change your mind. Check this with the hotel when you make the reservation!

Now another question... What would the requirements for Worlds be? Top at State Champs, top rank for state, top 3 of age at Nationals... etc.?

Well I might get reservations with my hotel at Origins again soon here. I definitly plan on going there to have some fun again. What makes me wonder is that Nationals were not apart of the original series of events that POP had planned. Of course we never got the Gym Ladders (and I don't think we ever will now). I wonder now if Gym and Stadium Challenges are to be expected since we have Nationals. If that becomes the case, the State Championships would have to have invites to play for... I guess it won't be long until all is cleared up.

The Gym Ladder has been undergoing testing at several leagues. If the flaws can be fixed, POP will probably introduce it soon. But Gym Challenges and Stadium Challenges just dont seem to fit into the schedule... and it seems that they have been removed from the upcoming events:

City Championships - February
Prerelease - March
State Championships - April
Blank/Prerelease? - May
Origins - June
ComicCon - July
GenCon Indy - August
Blank/Prerelease? - September
Worlds - October

If Worlds is indeed in October, Worlds participants are going to be in the Orlando area for the best time for pre-Halloween events like Universal's Halloween Horror Nights and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. This means the parks will be open later with non peak attendance. Hotels will be very cheap.

Hey Phil just wondering when you say the hotels will be cheap. Just wondering how cheap do you probably expect. I ask because well I can't go to Origins since I noticed it would cost way too much money for me and that I didn't have enough time to save up. But if like it is being said that Worlds will be in October than that'll be great in my opinion. (Honestly-it's not because I've never been down to Florida and I want to go so badly no no that's never the case) I just ask because at this moment also I won't be getting a job or my car till around May/June. Thanks.

Re

I would think they would be giving away payed trips to Nationals and Worlds, i mean that would not be fair to those on the West Coast. IMO if they don't give away some paid trips they are making a big mistake, i mean i can't afford to pay for hotels and airfare to Ohio AND Florida from California.

then you choose one or the other...what about the ones who had to pay for trips all the time to the west coast, I don't remember seeing everyone going boo hoo over that, except for some 15-18 yr olds who couldnt afford any trips and felt cheated with no trips =/

I feel cheated of trips because I can't afford it and I'm not 15-18! Again, what do you get invited for actually? (Nationals, States, Top Rankings in State, etc...?)

You get invited to the World Championships. Now of course whether they hand out trips is fully up to them and is a business decision. But as almost everyone has been saying-we all hope that they do give trips because well it is expensive to travel without the help of getting free plane tickets. But of course-business decision on NOA's part. And by the way-I've just learned this basically through life. To everyone that might be riding that "Hope" cloud of getting free trips. I understand fully since I personally would love that more than attempting to drive straight down to Florida from NC but I've realized that if you sit on that cloud long enough it continues to rise and rise and know this that cloud can evaporate at any time. (or in lamens terms-don't get all your hopes up)

Pokemon will be dead in the water if they don't.

According to my notes there are at least three ways to get into the Invite only championship.

1. Win a Gym or Stadium Challenge main event for your age division. I "believe" the top winner from each age division at every Gym and Stadium Challenge this year will earn a paid trip and invite to the World Championship. However this is not truly confirmed. Pokemon Organized Play plans to start the Challenge Series this May.

2. Win at the National Championship at the Origins Gaming Convention. It sounds like only one winner (in all age divisions gets to go to worlds). See http://www.originsgames.com about Origins itself. The winner earns a paid trip I belive.

3. Be amongst the highest ranking players for the Pokemon-e Trading Card Game. As you play in sanctioned events, you will earn a rating which compared to players by City, State, Nation, and Globally you earn a ranking. I am guessing that only the top 10 players in the Modified Format (on a global basis) will get an invite (but most likely not a paid trip) to the World Championship.

More ways to get in (like a "grinder" tournament the day before) may become avalable. Hope that helps.

It seems to me that they'd be able to fit a Gym and Stadium Challenge in the early summer. However, I wonder if PUI will follow through on the scheduling after the State Championships.
