(April Fools!) Japan Says: Dice are not Randomizers, Earth not Round

flipping coins doesn't take more time. Its chasing after the ones that dont land on the table that takes time.

This is horrible. I wanted to use coins...

(besides, the theme decks come with coins and counters, not dice. IMO, it would've felt more official)

Apart from those who have seen the draft coppies of the new floor rules I don't think any of us know if PUI will INSIST that ONLY their coins are used. All PUI have stated is that a PUI coin is the be considered as fair.

can you flip mutipul coins at a time? Im thinking of those attacks that have a "flip" for each energy, and with DRE and boost could be a lot of flipping. Course im thinking April Fools Good one if it is :thumb:

If this news is in any way true, then I'd say it's a very happy thing for me and a very sad thing for everyone else. Oh if only my old pkmn mates were around to hear this, they would be screaming "Unfair!".

See, I happen to, pardon the pun, rock at RSP. As for coins, well, there was a reason why my TO unofficially banned coins a few years back.

Um, I was using sneasel btw :p

Anyway, regarding coins and dices falling off the table, I'd say its a very common occurence for both, not just for coins. I've seen enough dices rolling off the tables to know that the problem isn't just for coins.

However, it IS true that coins are generally not as unbiased as dices. You don't even have to rig either device. For those who don't know, it is actually very easy to use a coin to get up to 75% heads (see paragraph two if you're lost), while it is damn hard to do the same for a dice, although personally I can now manage a 60% percentage.

Overall, this isn't the best rulings PUI can pass, considering that the thing with dices has more to do woth the history of Japan and gambling.

PS: On japan, gambling and dices. In the olden days, "gambling" means sitting at a table facing the "dealer". He drops two dices into a bowl and, while shaking, drops it onto the table and shakes some more. The players then call the outcome of the total; either "even" or "odd". Coincidentally, this is also how we decide our heads or tails, or in some cases, whether we win or lose.

PSS: Also, I believe there is a ruling somewhere about how we are not allowed to use coins from the days of WoTC. Can anyone confirm this for me? Cuz if its true, then it's sad, cuz WoTC's coins are, uh, rather rigged for heads. Although sadly I can't say the same for Nintendo's coins.

FWHAHAHAHAAHHA ROLFMAO

hope this is a 100% an april fool joke

PS: looks like this year its pokepop's turn to do the april fool joke huh?

I actually agree with using actual damage counters and not dice. Many times I've seen disputes about dice moving and such. I use damage counters anyways, so I don't mind. I do have a question though, if you have 2 different colors of damage counters, can you let one represent 30 damage and another 10 damage, as long as your opponent agrees.

I don't understand why dice can't be used as a randomizer though, it doesn't make sense.

Ya pushed it a little too far here. In all PUI decisions the logic is inescapable. I don't always agree with or believe that it is proper logic, but it is always, always there. The following

PokePop said:
"So, dice are totally banned from Pokemon Organized Play?" you ask? Well, not quite. Due to numerous complaints about how tiebreakers are currently resolved, PUI will move to a random determination for tie-breaks. When two players have identical tourney stats and one must be determined as the winner or advancer (in the case of cuts to elimination rounds), a dice will be rolled for each player. The one with the highest number will advance or be declared the winner.
exhibits a complete void of logic. There for I must conclude the entire subject matter to be BUNK.

Happy April the oneth.

Since the floor rules don't specifically prohibit two-headed coins, that's what I'll use from now on.

Oh yeah, and Sabrina's ESP is legal again.

FYI, the official status of dice and other non-coin randomizers is "judge's discresion," as I recall. Any coins shipped with PUI products are considered fair under the tournament floor rules.

Also, be sure to tune in tonght at 11PM Eastern on PIRN as we open the GS ball.

Yoshi this has come up before. But where is it actually stated that Judges can allow dice? Its not in the current floor rules.

I don't think I'll get into trouble over copying this from a post by Mike Liesik on that other place

Mike Liesik said:
TPC/CREATURES does not like the use of dice. Its not part of the game. Cards say "Flip a coin..." not "Roll a die..." At Worlds, the Japanese players and judges were all confused by the use of dice, hence the announcement at Worlds regrading which numbers were "heads" and which were "tails." Dave and I have tried repeatedly to get Yasu to speak with TPC/CREATURES regarding this issue, be he adamantly believes that they will not accept dice as a random determinant.

You'll notice that last year's Floor Rules stated that you could not use anything but coins. However, this rule was not enforced, even at Worlds. POP does not want to have a rule that we won't enforce in the Tournament Rules. We also don't want to tell players that they can't use dice, as it seems to be the most popular way of "flipping" and has no negative impact on the game itself or the tournament environment.

POP has chosen to remain intentionally vague regarding this matter. We will not tell you that you can use dice, but we also will not tell you that you cannot.

now incase you think that that just proves that this is an April Fools then consider when Mike made that statement.... NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR... A lot has happened since then.

Let me get this staight. Dice was used for Damage counting and as a substitute for coin flips? All this time. I need more info on what can and can't be done. I am a judge-inperspective,And I want to do the best job I can. Aside of all, this looks like an April Fool's joke.

i hope this is an april fools joke. I like using my dice that go up to 20 so I only have to have 6 dice instead 20-30 dmg counters at least. I don't mind using a coin no biggie there. I just put my coin in with my deck box and its easier to flip a heads than roll an even.
BTW happy April fools everybody
