I believe there is a BDIF (not meaning that it beats out EVERY deck but it has good matchups across the board). I won't say which one it is for fear of getting flamed
. This is my 1st year playing Pokemon, not just competitively but really just playing the TCG in its entirety, and I love this format. Sure I haven't experienced the other formats before this, and I'm not saying this is the BEST format, but there is so much variety in decks that it makes for an interesting format. This format offers players to be able to choose from a plethora of decks that suit their taste in how they want to play, whether they want to donk (Machamp), lock (Vilegar, Sablelock), etc.
Also, having a certain metagame is actually not that good. You know what decks you will face and then tech for them and tada!! you're all set. With diversity, players have to step up their game and play their deck in a different way in order to cover different matchups since teching your deck for everything is really bad.
And to those that complain about SP running wild...well if there wasn't SP's, there's going to be something else. People will complain about Gyarados having such an OP attack, Vilegar ruining decks that rely on trainers, or even Donphan because its so fast and has such a cheap attack. SP decks are so creative and really rely on the player to exploit and think outside the box (not really outside the box but to think more creatively) to win games. I really respect good SP players for how they can command their deck the way they do. BTW, before people start bashing me for talking in such a good note for SPs, I run Vilegar so its not like I'm the obsessive SP fanboy.
So umm...if I offended people, sorry I guess but that's just my 2 cents.
