Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Big news on 1/8/13 - Pokemon X and Y

^ Surf, Fly, rock climb- oh, the possibilities are way out there for speculation of course.
Wonder if rollorblading will replace cycling.....
All around, I think the biggest thing on all of this is that the USA and other countries do not have to sit behind a 6+ month wall of wait-

I also wonder how this will effect GL/Dream World, this stuff will need maintenence/updates-

Also, being a VG guy for TCG events- these new games will impact that aspect as well for those events that sport VGC side stuff.

Eh, it'll have its own separate DW area, assuming they keep that function in for Gen 6. It'll definitely mess with Regionals though, just imagine if the Fall ones are with BW2 and Winter/Spring with XY...that's just asking for havoc. Wonder what they'll do about that...

@Regis-

Most of the time whennew games come out, there is a “grace” period of time for Regionals to switch over. Fall Regionals probably wont switch, but Winter and on will more then likely make the switch.

Besides, the NW has me to be of help with things as it is, and TCPI will have a plan of some sort as to what will change and all that. Perhaps only the use of Pokemon found only in 6th Gen will be useable like how BW was the only carts allowed at those games release.

Have to wait and see on all that, but garunteed I will help in any way possible to the PTO/TO's for the future of the VGC community.

Well like I was saying, imagine what havoc that could cause...you have the same Pokemon now for Winter, then all of a sudden 100+ new ones come live? That has to be a bit messy, it's akin to a format change in the middle of the TCG season almost. I guess they could only allow Pokemon through the BW carts to be used, but if that's the case you'd probably just ban outright XY carts until next year I'd think.

Uhhh... They did the same thing this year. BW1 carts only for Fall VGCs, BW2 carts only for Winter and Spring VGCs. No big deal, really...

Types will be

Chespin: Grass/Dark
Fennekin: Fire/Psy
Froakie: Water/Fighting

IDK if somebody posted this previously but watch the video, add some logic and you'll see why

And that kind of logic totally worked when applied to Torchic, Tepig, and a few other starters. Not saying that speculating is bad, just that it isn't exactly obvious.

It's pretty obvious when you see Chespin using a Dark-type attack and Fennekin using a Psychic-type attack in the trailer...

I'm not saying that the secondary types are confirmed, but there's very strong evidence that suggests the secondary types described above are correct.

I disagree. Especially since I'm unsure if the move Fennekin is even a Psychic-type move. (I thought it looked like a dark-type move) and Chespin's attack looked like it could've been a variety of moves (although Night Slash is very good possibility), so no I don't think it is obvious.

Hmm... I'm bored enough to try and play "name those attacks"!

Chespin vs Magikarp: Solarbeam (really obvious, of course)
Golurk vs Chespin (wow Chespin is small): Erm... That's a good question, it's a really fast animation, but I'm guessing it's probably Pursuit to be honest, if it's not a new attack (regular dark priority move anyone?). It resembles Night Slash a little, but that doesn't seem fitting for it IMO, but I guess it could be.
Fennekin vs Munchlax: Flamethrower (obv.)
Kirlia vs Fennekin: Growl (I couldn't see it being anything else)
Froakie vs Pansear: Water Gun (also obvious)
Froakie vs Patrat: Probably Aqua Jet?

Litwick vs Psyduck: Probably Inferno
Mienfoo vs Dratini: Aura Sphere, of course (also, damn that looks freaking AWSOME)

Note that even if Chespin knows Dark moves, it doesn't mean it's a Dark Pokemon. The Treecko line gets Pursuit by Level, for instance.

Feel free to try and offer other ideas if you think mine are incorrect. ;p

My bad, Fennkin's attack that has floating purple circular wave-like rings around the target must not be Psychic-type because they're going to eventually make the final evolution Fire/Fighting anyway.

I think the first attack that Froakie used was Ice Beam (notice what looks like snow/ice crystals in the attack beam?).

Honestly, I thought Fennekin was using Snarl against Kirlia. After all Snarl is a TM move and could be breedable in Gen VI.

What I'm really hoping if the new starters are dual typed is
Chespin: Grass/Dark
Fennekin: Fire/Psychic
Froakie: Water/Poison

I said water/poison for Froakie because we already a water/fighting type tadpole/frog-like Pokemon, Poliwrath. So I really hope Gamefreak is still being creative with these awesome starters and put a neat spin on their dual types.

Personally I hope not for Froakie, Poison is a really horrible sub-type, and I like my water Pokemon useful lol. Besides, water/poison has been done with Tentacool/Tentacruel anyways...for that matter, Grass/Dark is already done (Shiftry) and Fire/Psychic also (Victini). So they'll need to be more creative than that, which is pretty easy since there are still some thousands of type combinations not used yet.

What trio of types exist that go in the reverse of the Fire/Water/Grass trio? Can we see if something like...

Grass/Psychic
Fire/Poison
Water/Dark

would work? Actually, those all sound kinda AWESOME!

Notice how the attacks are displayed as to the difference of the way the are performed:

A physical attack is shown as making contact, while special/ non-contact attacks are shown being done from a distance.

Nice! About time the attacks will be demonstrated in the way they actualy do damage!

The attack that Chespin used on Golurk was Aerial Ace. The attack animations have many similarities to BW2 that lead me to believe it is that move. Possibly given to it by TM.

Fennekin used a move that's difficult to I.D. Possibilities include: Confusion, Extrasensory, Psywave. As with most others I'm assuming its a Psychic type move. This doesn't necessarily confirm that it will be part Psychic as others starters have been able to learn moves of that type.

Froakie's move is probably the most difficult to put a finger on. My best guess is a priority move like Aqua Jet or less likely Extremespeed. I don't know. I'll have to playback that vid a couple times.

I was really hoping the next game after B2W2 was a remake or RSE or something along those lines. I like the starters but the legendaries I've seen don't cut for me...

 Sorry to quote such an old Stones song, especially without adding the cool musical file to accompany it, but it seemed so fitting:

"you cain't always get whatchu wonnt."
