Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Big news on 1/8/13 - Pokemon X and Y

Generation 6 announced!
Pokemon x and y!!!
3 starters announced and 2 legendaries seen in the video, go to pokebeach to watch the trailer

Like Jon, I'm kinda wondering about the "X" and "Y". .... chromosomes ... genetics ... perhaps a game for breeders ... perhaps "X" might look like a better game for girls, and "Y" a better game for boys? .... just speculation of course. Looking forward to seeing all the hype.

TPCi .... if you are reading this .... Now would be a great time to consider giving out either a pack of cards with each game, or a voucher for a free pack of cards. You'll never get a better opportunity to do a better job of tying together the TCG with the VG.

Wooo! Good bye Black & White! :D

It does leave a short gap to cram a load of English sets in though :S
I'm just hoping for as much of an overhaul in the cards as there is in those graphics, can't wait to see both the VG and TCG in well under a years time.

Also, that frog is ace! first time I won't be taking the Grass starter... stupid brown thing with a hat >_<
I wonder how they'll set it apart from all the other frogs, it looks kinda shy, a little bit frilly perhaps?

solarpichu, Pokemon is not ending. Who would think that? Have you checked to sales lately? Pokemon sells as the 2nd best card game unfortunely after MTG. But anyways imagine if they making B3W3 with 200 new Pokemon and you play in every region and catch every Pokemon including the event ones and Legendary Pokemon finally have a evolution. It would be the best selling game in Pokemon's history!

Best selling game after their Pokemon MMORPG :p

But yeah, I'd definitely buy that. Although after completing a region there should be a requirement that you can't use your current team in the new region. Or at least a level cap, say 30. Otherwise you'd be level 40-50 when you complete Unova and 60 by the time you finish the towns in BW2, then when you get to whatever the 4th Gen region was, you'd be 80 and maxed out by the 3rd Gen Region.

This way your team "retires", or you have a chance to breed a few and bring them along. You can mix and match generations of pokemon, but they have to be under 30 before entering the new region.

Based on early vids, it looks like they're STILL using the archaic 2x2 squares, rather than the free-floating 8-directional movement of games like Final Fantasy 4 DS. This is something I've been hoping for them to get past since the original DS came out. Bullados has an unhappy...

Don't forget these are still unfinished, they could have kept the grid system for presentation sake, and be ditching it by the final release if they haven't already.

It sounded more to me like a reference to The Cartesian coordinate system http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_coordinate_system that is used to specify points in a plane (or three-dimensional space if a third axis is introduced). I could see the third Pokemon game being called "Pokemon Z" to go along with this naming pattern. Anyway, just a thought.

Too bad the Japanese logo seems to nod towards the gene theory on that one. I wonder what they're going to do with the gene concept. Color me intrigued.

Pretty sure the X and Y just refer to the coordinates system, and the third game in the release will be called Z I would guess.

How does the Japanese logo relate to genetics? The X and Y in one are just decorated to look like one of the two legendaries.

6th gen

Well after watching the direct message, we are in fact getting a 6th gen Pokemon game. And to top it off, it is getting a world wide release date if October of THIS year! http://www.vg247.com/2013/01/08/nintendo-direct-pokemon-x-y-coming-to-3ds-in-2013/

The games are going to be called pokemon x and Pokemon y. It will feature the new starters Chespin (grass), Fennekin (fire), and Froakie (water). Two legendaries have been revealed a red bird and a deer with rainbow antlers.

The game will be in full 3d, meaning that if you want to play the new generation, you will need a 3ds.

So far the game looks fantastic from the trailer and most everyone is agreeing that the starters are all good. Which is your favorite? And what do you think of the new announcement? Do you like that the game will be in the 3ds? Or do you think it is to soon for a 6th gen?

I am super excited.

I don't know about you guys, but I actually like these starters. I just hope their later stages aren't as disappointing as Samurott.

So, I am guessing that these will not be playable at all on the DSl / DSi / DS platforms... bleh...

3D gives me headaches, hence why I have not even bothered to upgrade from my DSiXL to the 3DSXL.

Guess I now have no choice... Thanks Nintendo. :/

I HARDLY play with the 3D on. It is an option, you know.

Also, we've had TWO generations with 6 main games, a REMAKE generation with 2 games, and quite a few others (Mystery Dungeon, ect) on the DS platforms. It's about time for a change.

Hmmm, I suppose that's as good a theory as any at this point. However, unless there's a rather large departure from previous pokemon games, I just can't see them putting in a point coordinate system to target a particular point on a plane (or 3 dimensional space), unless they plan on expecting us to throw the correct pokeball at a particular point on a particular pokemon to catch it - which would be prohibitably unrealistic to expect the average player would be able to accomplish it. Can you imagine how hard the game would be then? No, just from practicality, I doubt they'd try to use a point coordinate system in any pokemon game meant for use by small children, so I doubt the "X" and "Y" have anything to do with that. Just my opinion however. Again - it's just as good a theory as any at the moment however.

I am super excited.

I agree 200%! I chose Oshawott (spelling?) for my starter, but regretted it rather quickly. I sent it to the pc for better pokemon.

I feel your pain, buddy, but just think if they have new Eeveelutions ... it just might be worth it for you! I think you can dial in how much 3d you want on the game can't you? You might be able to get away with very little 3d.

So it is a 6th Gen release. BW is still new. Seems to early for this. Heres to hoping I can use a Pidgey and Eevee early on.

Ugh, does this mean I have to shell out $175 for the 3DS? I was hoping Timmy would get by with the DS for another year or so...

My original DS cost $150, and I've used it for 10 years (and thousands of hours of play time). I'd say the cost as amortized pretty well.

Moved the thread to the VG Discussion forum because it has nothing to do with the TCG.
