Chaw - States $300 Travel Awards Do Not Pass Down

Well, i know in a heart beat what i would do if i won a state, i would just drop before the Top w/e began, that way you don't screw anyone in the finals. And its even a fair fight all the way so.

Every game you play as a State Winner from this cycle taints the current environment. Every loss you hand out (if that's the case) denys someone else the opportunity to get closer to that prize. Seeing as you've already won one, how does that adhere to Spirit of the Game?

I dont have any problems with a State winner playing in another state the following weekend. For one, you mighy be trying out a different deck to see how it matches up IRL. Another to see more of the metagame in the other state. How can more competition hurt anyone? I know that it could prevent others from more deck testing in real competitive situations (not just in league, apprentice etc.). I think Micheal/Supertyranitar hit the nail on the head....if you are a winner, play the regular tourney (if you want to), then drop befroe the cut so all that can make it to the cut do...to battle out for the win.

One thing many are not seeing. In the end, no one knows who the State Winner Victor is. With previous winners stepping down you don't really know. I personally don't like the idea of taking a trophy and having to wonder, Was it only because so & so stepped down?

We as a competitive family are torn. We love to see the numbers grow for Nationals, but to more than likely give up the chance at another Trophy/Title is not something we want to have to choose. As said before, if you've got the game & talent to win a 2nd State, you deserve it. Who really likes winning anyway because someone else stepped down. I don't see the enjoyment & satisfaction in the win.

Why they chose this route to force the Spirit of the game into the issue  for a non-invite tourney, especially since Invites/Travel awards roll down later on.

Don't take us a Title/Trophy hogging family. My children have stepped down before, it just wasn't at a State level, stepping down at a South Stadium Challenge with a Worlds Trip/Invite at Stake is highly something more worth stepping down for an opponent. But for Nationals, I just don't see it that big of a deal, it's not an Invite only Tourney.

Also there's the possibility that not ever player who makes top Cut will be going to Nationals anyhow. Should that player step down because they won't be taking full advantage of their Prize Winnings? In the end they are taking the travel award away from another player who plans to go to Nationals.

Sure it could effect the outcome of single eliminations but why do you want to penalize a player who wants to continue playing in swiss rounds (i.e. as Lawman pointed out...testing out different decks in preparation for future Gym Challenges, Nationals, etc) just because they already won a State ??? I don't see a problem with a player who has already won a State wanting to play in Swiss to do exactly what Lawman pointed out.

The moral of the story really should be once you win a State Championship be big enough to not play in any more and let others have the oppertunity to win.

Actually, the moral of the story is: You should win as many State Championships as you can if you're broke like me.

Why, if you can only get a SINGLE $300 travel allowance?

What this really does is put a taint, and a test on all of the players from the 2nd week on.

Don't play in more than one if you have won? I think that is a LUCICROUS idea.

Players want to play and players want to win. Period.

The test comes when a champion makes it to the final cut, and has to decide whether or not to drop out...what will they do???

What they have done is set competitive players in a catch-22.

It will end up like Memphis Cities, where of the top cut in the 10- elimination round, 4 DROPPED OUT before the finals, in order to allow a new player to win.

It really made a "yay me" ending for the winner, and some new players got to play for the title, but it would have been more interesting to see the best bash against one another.

The sentiment was so tainted out of Memphis, that in St. Louis, it was agreed that NOONE would drop, so the champion could really feel like they won something...and a new winner took the title in 1 of the divisions, repeat in the other 2. All the players felt like they had earned it that day.

The problem is the $300.00. Were it not for that, we would have no debate.

What tears me the worst is does that mean I should not even compete in Mississippi? If I win, I will not be given the travel award, as I am judging, not playing in the Nationals event, and therefore cannot claim my travel award. Let's face it. If I can't play, I am not going to go, and therefore neither will the 10 players I bring down from St. Louis to Tennessee. It would be the ONLY state event I would be competing in (running 3 others). I am sure by then at least 4 of my travelling team will have state titles, and not "really" be playing anyway, if they cannot win. What does that do? It decreases the numbers for another State, unneccessarily.

And what about my son, aged 10 for his first 2 states, and 11 for his last 2...should he not be allowed to prove his worth in his new division?

Questions, questions.

OK, I don't see how this has anything to do with the SPIRIT OF THE GAME!!!

A pass-down of this travel award would be easy enough to manage. If you won, you get asked...have you won a previous state title? If yes, you get the trophy and the toys, but the travel award goes to #2. Easy. Done.

What they have done is confused the matter, where the best players have these artificial moral dilemnas. Am I a bad person if win more than one? Have I cheated someone else, or if I drop, am I just cheating myself?

The Spirit of the Game is how you play and your attitude towards the game, not that you give up wins, and let lesser players win events? All that does is cheapen titles. Noone wants a cheap title. Noone.

Let the best win...and let chips fall where they may.

Unfortunately, that most likely will not happen, due to the new moral dilemna.

Oh, and noone stepped down at the South Stadium Challenge. All games were played to the end, with the winners and losers. A trip was passed down because a family was not to win more travel awards than they had people, which was a PUI decision, and handled graciously by the family involved...just wish THAT family would be transferred to St. Louis next time!!

meg45 I feel your pain.

See I understand (I think) why PUI would not allow the 300 travel to pass down-

1. It could satisfy those who complain of us who travel & play in multiple city & state's. Seeing we couldn't win multiple travel allowance, they think it may deter us from traveling & playing.

But it's not about the 300 for us, it's the Title at stake. Honestly people, we don't go into these tournies looking to make a buck, we spend out more than we earn in travel allowances. We had no worries if we won 1st more than once before because the invite/travel would just pass down so feelings hurt either way. So now with how PUI wants to not pass down the 300 they are facing more issues than just trying to satisfy those who don't like traveling players.

With your situation your faced with wanting to play but have the chance to keep another player from traveling to Nationals or just not go at all, which in the end hurts attendance and Rains on your pokemon parade of playing.

Is a traveling player really frowned upon by PUI? Honestly we are the real life Ash & friends.

Come on down Vince and play! Its not like we're gonna roll over and play dead! >:O I plan on winning MS regardless of whether I won a previous one. There is alot of pride in taking your home state.

Although, if I meet a family members in the finals I probably would drop (assuming I've won one by then) just so we could have some extra travel allowance to offset the cost of Origins. This would probably be the only reason for me to drop in MS. I'm the defending MS State Champ after all.

After/if I win my first one I'll keep playing. I'll probably end up dropping at some undetermined point. Simply because I don't feel like taking the 300$ away from someone who could use it. Or rather I'll give my opponent the choice for me to drop/forfeit or not. If they can live with and accept a win because I dropped I'll give it to them. If not, I'll go all out and let the chips fall where they may.

Then again, all this is assuming first that I win one and second that I make it that far again. XD

I really don't know why POP felt compelled to complicate matters further...

Dad here. Change of subject just for a minute. Hey Meg........Please explain"Chaw" and "Woot". Is it a Tn thang, and I wouldn't understand, or is there more to it? Inquiring minds want to know. Can a Texan use "Chaw" or "Woot"? As in "Chaw, I sure could go for some Chicken Fried Steak and a big glass of tea" or "Woot, my preacher dad use to beat me with a tree switch" or "Chaw, I'm really bored now".

in all honesty, i've been wondering about the whole CHAW thing for a while........

that's a vince thing, it doesn't have anything to do with locations........ i know it's not a STL thing, and i think anyone else that says it got it from vince or one of his followers that say it (definitely not me! rofl)

Chaw, thanks for the inquiry.

Chaw is kind of like Aloha...a word that has so many meanings.

It is an exclamation, a substitute curse word, a question, a filler ....

Woot is a symbol of happiness.

Chaw is definitely a Vince thing, not a St. Louis thing, or a Memphis thing, that I have been using for several years....

The highlight of my "Chaw" career came in the movie Finding Nemo when the sea turtle said it....

Kind of sad, I know.

So use it, abuse it.

I have been Chawing ever since 2000.

And no, I have never heard Scottie say it...he is just a bit too insecure LOLOLOL.

Talk to you later.

Annnyway guys. ;x

I'm going to 2 States, NY and RI. NY is first, RI second. So, if I win the NY, and I make finals in RI, it's pretty simple what I'll do:
First, I'll ask my opponent if they're planning to go to Nats. If they say no, then I play it out. If yes, I'll ask if they would want me to concede or play it out. Whatever they say I would do. Of course, if they want me to concede, I would _hope_ that they would acknowledge my decision. They don't have to, though, but it would be a nice thing to do.

Chaw for life, Vince! ;)

I'm not quite sure what I would do. I would like to have 2 State titles on my resume, but I wouldn't want someone to lose out on a trip to go the Nationals. Does anyone know if first place could like drop the trophy and all the prizes down for the trip if someone concedes in the finals?

That would be the decision of the 1st place winner. Although, I wouldn't want a trophy without an official and recognized title to go along with it. =/ Swag is nice though. ^_@ Although you can't say "If I forfeit will you gimme stuff?" because thats technically bribery. Now, if they want to give you stuff because they're grateful and out of the kindness of their heart...thats their decision. ;D

I know what I'd do. If i won the first SC, and made the finals to the second one(supposing that happens), i'll let my opponent win. Seems only fair. Besides, i still win boosters :p.
