No way Rayquaza will settle at a price higher than Mewtwo EX FA did after release. It's not even in the same league in playability.

Its a lot more rare. That will count for something. Its a factor of 6 or so more rare than any Mewtwo, and a factor of 2 more rare that Mewtwo Full Art.

Only because the excitable and gamblers will buy them up. I'll be honest, if I had the money lying around, I'd order one as well to flip ASAP. Too much risk to hold onto it until right before Battle Roads, for example.

There is at least a chance we'll get the promo version (I've seen the art-blacking out the offending character or deleting him entirely is perfectly plausible). Bit of "fail" that the promo wasn't released with the actual game; think of how many extra sales it would have generated... for all involved. TCG players will buy duplicates of the game knowing the other version was so rare in Japan (and is rare here). Non-TCG players just got a valuable TCG card, enticing them to give it a try (or at least allowing some to buy the game and sell the card to shrink the cost). Lastly for people who new at least something of the TCG but have been out of touch, it'd hype up the new Dragon Type.

There's always the possibility they'll do a repack of Pokemon Conquest once the game has sold to all the early adopters. Sort of like how HG/SS got an exclusive downloadable Lucario months after the game released... or was that B&W? I can't remember. Whatever the case, we know Pokemon likes to repack their games after the first furor over their release passes.

A specific Full Art is harder to pull than a Shiny.

Not its not. Technically any specific ultra rare we have right now can be missed in a case, but a case yields at least 6 shots at a FA and only 2 at a shiny. Additioanlly, FA's are optional upgrades, meaning a specific ex hs at least 3 in any box, where again you can buy a case and not get a certain shiny.

Some version of MewtwoEX was available in about 1 out of 2 boxes of cards. (1/6)+(1/6)+(1/6)=1/2 (Regular EX, Regular EX, Full Art EX).
The only version of Rayquaza is a shiny rare, of which there are 4 of them. Assuming the distribution of shinies is the same as before(1 in 3 boxes) you'll find a Rayquaza in about 1 out of 12 boxes. (1/3)*(1/4)=1/12.
Now if we assume price is a direct function of rarity, and since Mewtwo at its highest was at around $60 a card, and Rayquaza is a factor of 6 more, that would put Rayquaza's price at 6(60)=$360!!

Well, let's not get that crazy. But yeah, Rayquaza's going to be ridiculous until it either gets reprinted or rotated.

It won't be "rerinted' per se, but there is a non shiny version of the card. The shiny is the reprint, but Dragons selection isn't going to hit the US before this set, so we are getting it first. It wont have to wait more than a set to shoot down in price.

Now if we assume price is a direct function of rarity...

We could assume that, but it would be foolishness. A card's rarity does indeed affect demand, but so does a card's playability. So is this Rayquaza in all Japanese deck lists? I'll be honest, I didn't see the last time I checked but I wasn't building the decks, just giving them the once over and could have missed it.

However, if it isn't everywhere in Japan (which has a Dragon heavy metagame), then that is another sign people are overreacting, at least when comparing it to Mewtwo EX. Remember, Mewtwo EX was useful against anything, in everything, and was the only thing that could really counter itself.

Darkrai EX was useful in many things (due to Ability) and if being run in a deck that could attack with it, gave solid damage plus spread some Bench damage. Its Resistance to Mewtwo EX and the rise of Darkness decks gave it reason to climb so high.

We also know that TnT and similar sites often have basic software that says "Presales of card sell out, (same slots + X) for (same price + Y)."

tl;dr: Fearmongering feeds preorders, speculators hope to cash in on those succumbing to fear frenzy. Given the card's rarity, the risk is minimized since some collectors are going to be willing to fork out even if it does get re-released somehow and/or does not live up to the inflated hype.

people need to realize that even though rayquaza is not as playable as mewtwo EX. it is a very playable card that is ONLY a SECRET rare. Mewtwo had 2 versions of the card. FA and non FA. while yes those were not easy pulls it still meant there were more to be pulled since the card had 2 versions compared to rayquaza which only has 1 version which is a secret rare. Also on top of rayquaza being a secret rare its in a set that has FOUR secret rares making it even harder to pull.

Someone on this thread was complaining Bouffalant had been "downgraded" to an Uncommon. Seems like TPCi can't win for trying.

I dont think it was just downgrading that was the problem- it was that its a holo in Japan, and I guess a neat looking one?

I seriously still cant believe this with Rayquaza. TPCI makes an awesome move by making Mewtwo, Darkrai, and Ray EX into tin promos, then slaps us in the face with this.
