Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Kyurem...

Has anyone actually tested with proxied Kyurems?
Posted with Mobile style...

I have thanks to RedShark. And I got to say playing Kyurem is quite fun. Pairing it with Feraligatr Prime is a given. The deck I have will star Kyurem, Feraligatr Prime, and Blastoise with Hydro Launcher. All I have to say is, "Why not?"

A new card from Red Collection has been revealed, and this one really helps Kyurem in paticular. It's Eviolite.

It's a Tool that, when attached to basics, essentially gives Donphan's "Exoskeleton" pokebody, by reducing the damage done to them by 20. While all of Zekrom, Reshiram and Kyurem will benefit from this, I think Kyurem will enjoy it the most, because surviving the one hit from Resh or Zek really helps, because it's almost insured that each Kyurem gets off 2 spreads of 30, which can be 36 counters for DCL to play around with. It basically renders their Plus Powers useless.

Unless it also lowers the damage Zekrom does to himself with Bolt Strike, because then he'll definitely be the BDIF with quick set up and a best friend in Pokemon Catcher.

If the translation is correct, then it WOULD reduce the self-damage from Bolt Strike. :/ Like Reshi/Zek needed something tailor made to help them...

Not to mention, but Archeops revives Fossil Areodactyl's prehistoric power, locking Evolution cards from being played. but this time the card has 130 HP. Kyurem and Reshiram decks will enjoy this, but again Zekrom gets the best of it. If they can manage to get an Archeops out, it is GG. I hope the new Fossil Mechanic severly slows them down, although it would be awesome to limit Magenboar to Magnemites and Tepigs for Kyurem to destroy.

All I can say is - CATCH(er) THAT BIRD!

I thought the same thing when I saw that card. Seems pretty good, but I'd like to wait and see if it works.

Yea, with the new Fossil Mechanic it might end up being very hard to get out. Let's just hope Fossils can't be searched out with say a Collector.

It all boils down to hype. Like I said, I'll wait until the deck has been built, tweaked, and tested by people much better than myself, to see if it is any good or not.

And I just read that Rare Candy (pokemon breeder) bypassed Fossil Aerodactyl, and if the same thing happens with Archeops then its barely that much of a threat.

I guess I am just getting caught up in hype and fear of new cards. Imma go settle down and play some vidya games.

If this card becomes as playable as Reshiram or Zekrom (IMO, it will be MORE popular than them) I think Scizor and Steelix will re-appear in the format.
Why?
Because they dissapear because of Reshiram and Emboar and now Reshiram will dissapear because of Kyurem and Beartic.
Metal is waiting for its revenge.

@ Nishidawin
That can be said for any and every deck, except that knocking out a 140 HP Pokemon with an odd weakness isn't as easy as you say. Really, only Magneboar and RDL can do it. Serprior doesn't hit hard enough, even though it's grass.
@Lucian
Yea, it's looking like it's going to be a very nice and diverse meta, especially since Fossils suck. Archeops is no big deal at all.

Ok, but even if Feraligatr is brought up with Catcher, you've still got a hefty retreat cost on him. And he won't be doing much damage unless Kyurem has attacked at least twice already.

Why would I retreat him? Sounds like if I really needed another one, I can just slap down a Rescue energy and then gogogogo.

This. Besides, Kyurem is actually a really fast deck and should be spreading turn 2.
And you know, they won't have Catcher all the time, and I'll be saving my Switches for when they do.

Yea, either only 1-1 DCL or no DCL. Consistency is what matters, cuz getting that T2 30 spread is often much more important than moving it around later.

No one has talked about cobalion as a metagame deck that will directly counter Kyruem decks. It is a basic steel pokemon with 120 hp and its second attack does 80 damage and the defending pokemon can't attack (much like beartic ep). With Kyurem's steel weakness, Cobalion one shots it. Cobalion can also abuse eviolite since it is a basic and special metal energies since it is a steel-type. Most theory lists i've seen use the same partner as beartic with vileplume and it has plenty of space for techs to deal with reshiram decks (although reshiram is probably still an unfavorable matchup for this deck). The energy can be accelerated with skarmory as a starter as well.

So we could be seeing a lot of rock, paper, scissors throughout the season. Kyurem>Reshiram>Cobalion>Kyurem with what i personally believe as ZPST being the bdif for now (until we get EXs). And of course add gothitelle/reuniclus/dragons, stage 1's, mewbox, etc. decks. So I don't think Kyurem will be broken (largely due to the release of cobalion) and we will see a diverse format.

This is my first post at the gym and I just wanted to throw the idea of Cobalion out there as I believe it will be much better than the Scizor and Steelix Prime counters that have been mentioned. With it's attack lock and room for techs it may even find a way to make fire decks favorable or 50-50 if they can manage.

@TrainerEnjay:
Welcome to the Gym. Also I agree that Cobalion can be apart of a really nasty deck, but I think Scizor would be on the same level, because of it's red armor.

Anyways, here is another overlooked card that I feel deserves time to shine. Vespiqueen UD. A deck with Vileplume, Scizor/scyther, and vespiqueen (maybe even Serperior ability) would definitely be strong against this "hyped card."

Thanks! I'm not sure how many special energies kyurem, reshiram, or zekrom will run besides maybe rescue energy. Feraligatr and typhlosion or emboar all accelerate basic energies so retreating using the special energies will get rid of them and then can be put back on using the energy accel. That and the fact that scizor is a stage 1 with less hp are reasons why i believe cobalion will be better. I really like the vespiquen idea as another way to improve the matches favor for either scizor or cobalion though. Good idea.
