Oh my god Bullados. Understand this point: HOUSTONIANS HAVE EASY ACCESS TO ARLINGTON!

here it is in mathematical form:

Arlington = D/FW, Oklahoma AND HOUSTON
Houston = D/FW and Houston

Arlington = No NASA Pokemon Party = Less People Attending

Show me five people that WOULD NOT show up if it weren't at NASA. I mean SERIOUSLY, Regionals is COMPETITIVE. People are going to show up regardless of other things going on.

Whicker, you keep missing the point. Parents aren't always very willing to drive their kids too far to play cards. You would definately lose a huge chunk of the Houston playerbase if it was in the D/FW area. But, since we can't prove or disprove that definately, there is really no point in arguing about it.

But the undeniable fact is that Houston accomodates the majority the best.

My home regional pretty much excludes MS, LA, AL, and eastern TN by a MUCH larger margin than the Southern Plains regional is excluding OK. We decided to go to Eastern instead because I have a title there and we're pretty much already going so far anyways. Had it been in Memphis it would have been much harder to justify defending my title when it would only be 3 hours away. But guess what! Even if it was in TN most of the local MS and LA player base would STILL be excluded. 3 hours (from Jackson, MS) is simply way too far for most parents to drive their kids much less the 6+ for LA and Southern MS. Regionals encompass a large area. There will always be people who have to travel a long ways to attend no matter how centralized it is. TX is a huge state. Any event held there would exclude most non-local players. Your theory doesn't really hold as much water you think it does. The majority of Pokemon players are not travelers. So, it really does make sense to give it to the place with the largest local player base.

Speculation derived only off assumptions...

I wonder how this debate will sound next year, especially the part about Houston deserving the Regionals because they are so much bigger, when the Southern Plains regional is held again in Arlington or even in the OKC area.
I don't think anyone that's posted on here, except Mike Cook, knows the full story of why this event is in Houston.

Then SHOW them by getting yer rear end there!!! If it is SOOOOO competitive, it shouldnt matter WHERE it is held, as long as it is within a state in your region!

Whicker "Oh my god Bullados. Understand this point: HOUSTONIANS HAVE EASY ACCESS TO ARLINGTON!

Another news flash.....nice assumption there, buddy! Easier access doesnt mean auto there. Houston hosting does not exclude Okla. bc we all know that ST Pika is driving thru there and will give rides to those who want to go. Ergo, Okla. CAN be included in Houston, IF THEY WANT TO!

Likewise, you are merely speculating also on whether or not Okla. will be represented in Houston bc the event hasnt taken place yet! It is ALL assumptions right now. You seem to think you talk for EVERY Oklahomian when you post, Whicker. Lets see what the numbers actually end up being. And, No, I didnt agree with you earlier, did you not see the the roll eyes icon?? That means "sarcasm", or do they not teach that in the Okie state??

Keith

I don't like the regional in OKC or Houston, not because I'm a DFW local, but for the last time, Arlington BEST represents the OFFICIAL region, more than any other area, because only three states make up the Southern Plains on POP's map. I've outlined this once before, and I'll say it again: this regional isn't for Mississippi, Tennessee, or Louisiana. It, by name, is supposed to do the best job of representing as much of the region as possible, and when two states out of three get little to no representation at that regional, then it's time for at least a name change.

Can this debate die already. Whicker already said he is not going or can't go. I live in San antonio and will drive to either place for regionals. Arlington is an extra 1 1/2 hours away than Houston and I'm not complaining. If you really want to go to this event you will try your best to get there. Let's redirect our energy elsewhere and get ready for this fun and exciting event. By the way whicker, what events are you planning to attend to try to win an invite to worlds? Yes, I know regionals only gets you to Nationals.

Gyms seems to be my only opportunity. MAYBE Nationals, but I would have to get lucky.

Lawman CONTINUES to miss the point. Yes, I realize that Oklahomans CAN go. But there is no reason for someone to drive EIGHT hours if it isn't necessary. VERY FEW people are willing to do so. It makes more sense for me to have two people drive four hours than two people driving eight hours and four hours.
Johnny outlines this point rather well.

Ok three people here maybe four that would not be going to houston this year from D/FW for pokemon Regional. We did not go to state last year and it was down there. But I show my wife the NASA pitch and she says like in the song by the Cars "let's go".

Would you go to Regionals if it were in Arlington?

And you seem to MISS my POINTS. There is a reason to drive 8 hrs 1 way.....its called "attending the regional in the place selected by the chosen PTO". It is necessary if you want to attend. I certainly understand your gripes, but MY regional has 6 states in it (MS Valley) and last year it was held in Memphis (7 1/2 hrs away from us, 1 way) and we didnt go to it. This year, it gets moved by Vince (his right, since he is PTO..NO gripes here, he does a GREAT job!) to St. Louis, his home base! That is like 11 hrs away from me now. Am I griping or demanding that he put it back closer to me bc it was more convienient to ME??? Heck no. I dealt with it and my son got his Worlds invite thru our Gym and we had a blast. (Especially fun since my son won part of Vince's Piglet draft saturday night!) Do YOU get my points bc I simply dont understand your gripes. You either go or dont go. You can certainly request that for next year, they (PTOs) could consider moving it back to Arlington or a more central location.

Keith

All I hear is Oklahoma complaining about were Regionals is going to be. Mann ya'll couldn't even defend your own state. Two texas players won in Oklahoma and the best age groups also, 15+ and 11-14. You should stop complaining and start practicing.

Hey Robert, now I've been mildly defending Whicker's position on the issue, but I wholeheartidly defend the player base of Oklahoma, in that it's a quality one! Just as a FYI, although an equal number of Texans and Oklahomans earned invites in 2005, Devin Jackson and Roy Roberson Senior were able to WIN their invites on TEXAN soil.

Now you want to attack me too. Johnny FYI, how many tournaments are in Oklahoma to earn trips, thanks that's all I wanted to know. Come on they eventually they have to win one here. Again, like me, my brother and Ryan have stated previously just let it go because no matter where this topic goes it is not going to change the location. Just let it go and do something constructive. If you want to continue this I will see you in Arlington.

P.S.- By the way don't you live in the Arlington area. This would make home court for you and that's why you're defending Whicker. Now its time for you to travel and lets see how the carlag affects you. Especially when you feel tired. The Shades won't hide the fatigue. FYI, what is your record against Team San Antonio, I think you have zero wins against us. I know for a fact that Big Ben beat you and I know you haven't beaten me.

Do I sense fear in you yes so you are afraid of not only johnny but other oklahomans that is true reason and btw "carlag" as you call it does not fatigue most people because guess what they SLEEP in their vehicles

Fear! I fear nobody. Obviously you didn't read the part that johnny has never beat me and Oklahomans well I can't really remember playing any. The carlag part, I guess you don't drive. Last time I saw a car doesn't drive itself or does your car have an auto pilot.

I don't attack you though, Robert =P. I simply defend the player base of Oklahoma because you TOTALLY blast it. You forget that while Old Man won his invite on your watch, Devin won his invite on both of our watches, so I guess we're even heehee. As for doing "something constructive," it's discussing the issue right here on the 'Gym that does a good job at it! If you want a firm example of what good discussion does,

RE to the P.S.: To clarify more on what I mean, do a bit o' reading my pal:

So that answers your first question. As for a record against San Antonio, I don't even play you guys enough! However, I've only played vs Big Ben once in my life and I got a jippy hand with the most consistent RL around (at a tourney I won 13-1, so props to him being the only scratch on my armor), and although we've only played once compeittively, I beat you at least three times in casual play at the Richardson Gym Challenge. Now you may ask "well three games don't matter!" They don't, and likewise, a person's record vs a person or small group of people is not nearly of the same magnitude as their year performance, EVER!

Once again, no harm done to San Antonio: like Oklahoma, your base earns my respect, and I traveled to BOTH of your front doors to win my SC's, so I do know the feeling of carlag. Although I'm sure your post's all in good fun for rivalry's sake
