...And DragonaireMaster8..if you are going to retire soon, please go ahead and do it or let it go.

OK, i am going to retire, probably after nats unless things change, so please don't tell me when to quit. And also, I'm not just going to let this go. This is hands down teh worst decision PUI/POP has made EVER. Though, on teh otehr side, at the rate we're going worlds will be a 2 person tournament by 2008 with all teh cuts they are taking. =/

[13:48] Matthew Moss: what % chance do you think you have of making it to worlds?

yes, worlds 08'

MARS: THE RED PLANET

If the winner of the NBA's Atlantic division (wow I'll bet money the top team won't finish above .450 at this rate) gets 3rd seed and Home court advantage in the playoffs, I think the top ranked player in Canada should get an invite/trip.

If i keep playing and end up top in Canada but miss top 8 in NA (very likely because US and mexico obviously have more events and oppurtunities to get ratings higher) and get d0nked in Nats or something, I get crap. Absolutely nothing. So, where's the incentive to keep playing... I'm sure alot of other people here think this way too.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

My point is...if things are as bad as you say, how will continuing to play thru the season be any better. I am not telling you to quit...that is the last thing I would actually want anyone to do. BUT, if you say you are going to do something and make such a big show about it, and DO NOT do as you advertise.... well I will leave the interpretation for you to make so I do tell you what to think.

(this is directed at all the complainers)

If you have ever met Dave and Mike and Pete, you would know that continuing to blast them and the decision they make after I am sure hours of discussion, will fall on deaf ears and simply irritate them. If you think that is productive, then I am glad you have that kind of time and energy.

All right, i see where youre coming from. I dont think continuing thru teh season will be any better, its just i really cant seem to just give up on teh game in one day because of 1 bad decision (albeit the WORST one ever). I'm just gonna wait it out, actually see how many invites will be given at nats, and go from there.

You're comparing this to the Prop 15/3. That is just wrong. Prop 15/3 was probably the single worst gameplay decision ever implimented by the people in charge (Wizards or PUI).

You're comparing this to the original Professor Program. That is just wrong. The original Professor Program (implimented by WOTC) was the single WORST decision ever implimented by the people in charge. It completely destroyed this game for over 3 years, and we're still feeling the effects of this decision today.

This is nothing like either of those two decisions. It isn't even close. There is a HUGE difference between cutting back on Worlds invites, and CUTTING AN AGE GROUP COMPLETELY.

I fully support PUI in this decision, but it doesn't mean that I have to like it. I've already explained my reasons here.

I think DM8 said a decision by PUI in an earlier post, and both of your citations are for WotC-era decisions. So, your counterarguments don't even work. You're trying to make comparisons to areas he wasn't referencing at all.

Indeed, you've created the strawman argument, which is a logical fallacy. DM8 explicitly said PUI/POP, not ANY decision. You're refuting a stance he hasn't even taken!

Thank you Ryan. That is exactly what i meant, sicne that is what i had been talking about in earlier posts. I meant worst decision by PUI. Yes, i agree, that OVERALL IN POKEMON HISTORY, getting rid of 15+ was the worst decision, but this sure comes close when it comes to that category. =/

This entire thread summarized into 1 paragraph:

Each player who puts time and effort into this game, perfecting their decks and playing, should at least FEEL like they have a chance of making Worlds. Wasn't that the theme song of the first Pokemon Series? 'I Want to be a Master'? Where can you acchieve that outside of WORLDS? The more that people that feel like they have a chance to be a 'Pokemon Master', the more they will try, and the more product they will buy. If most players feel they really have no chance, what purpose is there in staying in this game? For fun? That sounds like a good one until something funner comes along and they lose interest.

M:TG didn't become the huge force it is by advocating a "fun" environment.

I don't see a problem with people venting here about how they feel.

I'm sure POP takes it with a grain of salt and sifts out what they consider good points from bad ones.
As long as things done degenerate into any kind of personal insults, of course.

Oke sounds reasonable, but when N american people talk about invites, they mean invite+trip.
If you forget about the paid trip, would it be acceptable if POP gives away invites only??
Just as an example.
N-A gets regionals, says 1 st place gets invite+trip, but nr 2,3,4 do get an invite to Worlds?

That way about 20 invites each agegroup (seats at worlds) would be created, but would limit the expenses for POP. (some more staff and materials needed, but compared to more paid trips meaby an option)
Outside N-A each Nationals could provide 2,3,4 invites only.( we don't get regionals)
I know most N-A players want their 50+ paid trips to Worlds back, but I don't see that happening soon.
Those are split up Worldwide and really that's a fair choise.

Meaby time to ask for something in the "middle" ?
Getting an "invite only" will increase your chances, and if you are really so devoted to this game you will find a way to get the money to travel to Hawaii. Not that expensive when you live in N-A.

I've said for a LONG time I would just take an invite, and I think that holds true for the majority of dedicated American players.

How many more times does the U.S. have to prove it has the best players? Win 2 more Worlds? 20?

Last three year sum up:

4 titles to US
4 titles to Japan
1 title to Europe (Finland)

Oh, btw. If we should keep a gaming/sports event to where it's best competitors are, then by all means move all skiing games to Norway, all football to Brazil and all table tennis to China.

I'm confused by the International response. It certainly hasn't got better for me, as a single player in the UK. I went into Nats 06 with four places available. (two invites with trips, two invites. Three of these were used. I know the player who wasted his invite, and he knows exactly how I feel about it. Just FYI.) I was knocked out in the Top 16, so I was two rounds away from a place. (though irrelevant right now, as far as the dream, that made it feel possible) In Nats 07, as I understand it, there will be one. I don't see any Uk players earning one of the 4 15+ places available to our Rating Zone.

I find it hard to trust the Uk rankings, as qualification for the last Nationals was changed a matter of weeks before the event. Additionally there have so far been four City Championships in the Uk, none of which have been confirmed CC Premier Events.

Conversely, continental Europe has got itself organised. (have there always been that many tournaments in Germany?). There is a sea and languages in between the Uk and the rest of the Rating Zone. My linguistic abilities stretch to "my cat is black" in three languages.

I can't blame PUI/POP for geography or the British foreign language curriculum, but to me it does look much better for contintal europe than it does for the UK.

I also don't know what all this focus on pokemon families is about, and it concerns me a little. I'm one of three LL in the North-West of England. I'm a single woman, and the other two are single men.

Just as an amusing footnote, the guide to Premier Ratings has not appeared on the International portion of the POP site.

PS I don't have a cat.

Yeah, honestly I'm surprised we haven't seen a whole lot of Canadian players chime in here. Do you realize how SCREWED you're getting out of this ordeal? Let's get this post count to 200 by Monday Morning!
