Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

The crazy card

I got the top 16 and the match ups from a Japanese player's blog who was also collecting information themselves. There is also a deck list of the Hydreigon + Darkrai EX circulating around which is also posted on a blog as well. I haven't really linked them because I wasn't sure how the forum rules on linking to other websites were enforced. I can send PM's for those interested I suppose.

Why not just post the list and the name of the site? I think that'd be rather fair.

Pokemon
3x Darkrai EX
1x Shaymin EX
3x Hydreigon (Dragon Blast)
1x Zweilous (Half Deck)
3x Deino (2 from NV, 1 from Dragon Blast)
3x Sableye
1x Sigilyph (Dragon Blast)

Support
4x Professor Juniper
3x Bianca
4x N

Item
4x Pokemon Catcher
3x Dark Patch
3x Rare Candy
2x Eviolite
3x Ultra Ball
2x Level Ball
3x Max Potion
2x Random Receiver

Energy
8x Darkness Energy
4x Blend Energy (Grass/Dark/Fire/Psychic)

Provided by a website called PCGN in the url. You will have better luck finding it by looking for "pcgn pokemon card" as it should be at the top of the result. The match ups and the top 16 were found on Seedot diarynote which can also be found via google search.

That looks like a REALLY fun deck/list to play with. Seeing these lists make me totally okay with the upcoming rotation, assuming it is in fact BLW-on.

To provide some more information, this was held in Sendai and the tournaments themselves are called the Spring Battle Carnivals which is their World's Qualifier. Another one is being held in Yokohama this weekend. So, hopefully the decks for that one will look as fun as this one.

I guess I too, owe pliskin an apology for writing off his idea so quickly.

Moving on though... what's the format that Japan uses? BW-on? And why did the winner run Bianca as a draw supporter over Cheren?

Japan seems to like Bianca more than we do.

It's a better topdeck if you get N'd down to 1 or 2 cards, that's for sure. Ultra Ball might have something to do with it as well.

Its because they don't have an alternative. Oak and sage are rotated out of the format.

I suppose there is Cheren, I'd probably run a combination of the two.

I just thought it was a funny coincidence. thepliskin posts a combo, gets told it won't work . . . a few days later - it wins Japan's Nats

Don't want to pick on anyone put he did post the combo after the information about the tournament was posted(somewhere). It just took a couple of days to spread out the info.

Erm. I could post a deck list for Garchomp + Altaria I stumbled upon from a Japanese player a month ago but I don't want to impose on what this thread was actually for which was the Hydreigon + Darkrai EX + Max Potion combo. It might not be the best up to date source but it can be good stomping grounds. Other than that, I haven't seen the player who placed second post up his deck list.

If Hydreigon, Darkrai EX, Eelektrik, Empoleon, Mew EX, Gothitelle, Ho-oh EX, and Altaria are popular (and also have abilities), why isn't Garbador mentioned as being played at all?? And why don't we see Rayquaza EX on ANY of these deck descriptions???

I can't really say anything on Garbador because I lack information, but for what it is worth I found that many Japanese players prefer Eelektrik + Zekrom over Rayquaza EX in their playtesting.

I can kind of see why nobody would bother to play Rayquaza Ex, if Garchomp can OHKO it for 2 energy...

And why don't we see Rayquaza EX on ANY of these deck descriptions???

Because apparently playing Rayquaza EX is really stupid in format full of Garchomp (that can OHKO it for 1 energy if there are 2 Altaria benched and for 2 energy outright).

Remember Gengar (Prime)? Looks like Rayquaza EX is in the same category. The difference? Gengar (Prime) was a viable 1-of in Vilegar. Rayquaza EX appears to be completely unplayable.

It's disappointing too, because Rayquaza will probably be in a tin, making players like me who can't pull or buy EXs able to get Rayquaza pretty easily.

Guess I'm using Durant for Nationals... :/

Not sure if I'm supposed to respond with improper syntax and glaring grammatical/spelling errors, but I'll do my best...

If you are actual(ly) try(ing to) theorize a concept for this card, then meganium is out. It is too slow and ineffect(ive) due to not (being) able to attack. As a bench sitting tech,it is worth/less in a format with catcher. All one does is catcher it up, and snipe around it(via Raikou ex), or stall and completely set up. The Darkrai and sableye are interesting. The concept is excellent theorymon, but (I) don't see it surviving against the faster setup decks.

Ignore all letters within parenthesis, as well as all punctuation, for proper effect.

Never above did I say it wasn't an interesting concept(except for the meganium) And the fact remains that we still don't know what is in/out by the time this card sees print in English. If we have the tools currently available to explosively fast decks in September, I still contend that this will be too slow to compete. If, for example, we have the format the previously mentioned tournament was played in, it could be a contender. What made reading the OP akin to pulling my own teeth was the murderous approach to the English language. Many a good idea have fallen by the wayside, due to poor communication.
