Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

UK City Championship Dates 2006/2007 season

I wish to say, that i wish to stand by my first judgement.

Nationals for the UK would be a weekend event. (not possible for some people as they do have other things to do)

CC and League attendance MAY drop

I like to remind people that not everyone that plays, is a big player and wishes to take it to a higher stage. Some players only with to play in small competitions and leagues. Also for most people, pokemon isn't just to play to win all the time. People go to tournaments to see old friends and make new ones and to have a bit of fun.
In all honesty i dont think people would play for there ranking points to get to worlds. As many people may feel that they have no chance to get to worlds and no confidence to do it. With small tournaments leading to a big one, if new players win small tournaments then they grow in confidence.

and prob after reading that you be wondering what i just type. To be honest prob me as well.

What evidence do you have that an increase in attendance would make Nationals an all weekend event? TOM makes for quicker tournaments with less rounds and a little more organisaton by TPfG would easily speed up registration; which BTW, is what eats the time at UK Nationals.

536 players and one day!

And pigs may fly, the moon turn out to be cheese and bears have certain religious afiliations.. what evidence?

Totally agree and no one is stopping anyone playing in smaller events, but as a UK TO and as you know too from trying to TO, when you run a premier event at a quality venue it costs money and that has to be paid. Numbers help keep the cost down and TO's going by helping to pay for venues.

But then again larger events mean more work for the Judge team and more competition for players but most of us have never been afraid of that and bigger events have a real buzz to them.

Okay Steve you obviously have not read any of the outraged at losing premier event points threads? Nothing stops a player playing in smaller events and nothing stops you running them. But I am sure the majority of players and parents of players would like an open Nationals as a big wow advertising event to promote the game.

I stuggle to see why a 200+ nationals is a problem, what an event that would be yet it only means 70 odd players per age group... It just takes effort and will something that seems lacking in the UK for some reason?

Anyway this is in real danger of spreading off topic so Back to CC's please everyone...

I have no evidence, only theory. And i can understand how people may or may not think my theory is correct, which i dont mind that and its up to them and that is what I think.
I'm saying, and i mean I'm saying, that judging how TPFG has currently run the pass nationals, then we could have a problem.
In the last 2 years we have the tournament finishing between 8-10pm. If there was a increase in players then rounds would finish later. Top cuts MAY be bigger, but this will still lead on to a later finish, pushing the final into later hours.

Thats TOM does make tournaments easier to work out how things should be run, but it takes a while for these effect to be put in action when done.
At nationals the pass 2 years, after the rounds are put up, then i would take anything from 15-60mins to get the round going.
Last year i believed that we started at 1.15pm. IF there is a problem at any stage of nationals, with more problems may persist.

IF (which is possible knowing TPFG) its at woburn. Then, people would either have to go a hotel miles away, train station miles away, or drive though the night and for some people from scotland, landing back in scotland in the early hours of the morning next day (if by plane).

IF nationals was in a more local place (ie a major city) then i would be a completely different story, but TPFG is thinking more of a family approach.
Who went around woburn? A few but not many.

WOW, the moon is make out of cheese. /sarcasm.
As i said above THEORY, and a large amout of the time my theorys are right. And i'm not saying i'm right this time.

I agree that most TO's would love to run a big event including me, and most players including me would love to be on a big stage, but when it comes to judging, most people would like to play. Some will judge but compared to players not alot. And i think we could agree that we cant trust TPFG staff on rules as they dont have a first hand experience on how to play the game.

Honestly, not much. But as i said above, if nationals was a open event then players would stop going to smaller tournaments (due to travel, cost, etc) and just go to the main one. This would therefore MAY due attendance to a few smaller tournaments, causing a lost in revenue to the venue cost (which is problem i'm afried of as a TO as I'm unsure if i could break even everytime.

I wouldn't have a problem with a 200+ nationals but my problem is how TPFG would run it as i don't think they would go into the full effort for there players/staff/players families etc.

Correct it may be best to open a new thread to talk/complain/share ideas of the UK nationals.

Getting back to cc's, I see you all at Horsham cc, where i be playing a weedle and oddish deck and be whipping you bottoms to first place.
(that felt like a nitish thing that did),
(talking of which i haven't seen him this season yet.)

P.s i prob made a few mistakes above, and i correct any (if any) tomorrow after college.

im not a torney organiser, but as far as i am aware, we had no problems getting prizes down to exeter last sat.
we had the following prizes for each age group:
a blue blastoise bag,
a blue large toise evolusions folder

a crazy POP fold-up frisby
a small POP pen
3 pokebal pencils

TPfG failed to deliver any prizes until Hessle when 2 boxes of Boosters and nothing else were sent. Exeter was probably the first CC to get full prize support.

BTW do you know who won the Juniors and Seniors so we can update the winners list?

*heh-hem* Hull...

Yeah, it is bad really - but we did get an apology of sorts from TPFG this time...they've got 1 last chance from me anyway - lets hope regionals runs smoothly.

Oh, and as for the website Carl is taking that one down and putting the new one at www.pokemon.co.uk apparently. I don't know whether the new site is updated or not yet.

I've noticed people talking about how many CCs TPFG is counting. I'm wondering if they are allotting a CC for every league?

Considering I can't get hold of them to become a TO for Power Keepers PR, I can't see me running one.

And I'm never going to be giving away prizes from my own stock - I don't have one, I'm just a player trying to make some events happen.

Maybe we could start a new thread listing all the leagues in the UK and work out which exist and what goes on there?

I really can't see PUK and Nintendo letting Carl lose on their website too often if at all -

Smells like a fish, looks like a fish .. maybe it's a Fish?

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

Good idea I keep a list for Pokemon World based on what I can glean from all over the web but there are bound to be some spurious leagues in there.

I will start one soon but think I will ask for an International League Section too as we don't want to get lost in the US section.

Anyhow coff coff back to the City Championships..

Steve, as always the most important thing to have is a venue.

Build it and they will come ;)

I can think of three TO's near you who would help but you need a venue as we are all busy with finding and running our own.

Make it easy, find the venue and TO and players will follow - NoPoke is as ever the yoda like face of rightness ;)

For many people who run tournaments, there is 2 main factors:
Venue and players

for me theres 3:
Venue, Players and Venue.

Venue is ok, players ok, and just TO. I can thinks of them 3 TO's around here, and i will ask on at the pre-release that im sure they will be going to/running.

Have you had any news on a deffinate date for this one?
