Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

WEREWOLF XV: Pokemon Wars: GAME END: TOWN WINS!!!!! See Post 2547 for Final Update!

So- out of curiosity: What WAS the deal with the comlink? Or, is the comlink still a"shush" matter?
I spent a good amount of time analizing the tattoos, but the comlink drove me crazy a bit.

Thank you very much for the compliments. I really enjoyed this game, I loved watching every second of it. You played very well and you had better sign up as an actual player next time. I’ll tell the mod not to let you be a replacement. I will reserve a spot for you, or sign up, then quit day 1 so you can play. Lol. Thank you again.

Bwaaaahhhhaaaaaaaaa! I look forward to playing against or with you, sir. I hope to play as well if not better next game. Until then- reserved spot for AT on the next WW game, haha!

The commlink was how people contacted PCPB. Just like the "piece of paper" from XII, you could pick it up once, which would then allow you to send a request to PCPB. A random "role" would be selected, and you (the person with the commlink) would choose a target. PCPB would then decide whether to accept or decline the job. However, you wouldn't be told WHO would be accepting/declining the job. It was just a "person of service." We just know it was PCPB because he claimed Wobbufett and that was his role.

Afterwards, you would not be able to grab the commlink again, nor would you be able to tell anyone else what it did on pain of death from PCPB.

Here's that fake role card that I made up. I was playing like this WAS my role, and was about to post it when Ikrit decided to kill me....

cabd - Mace Windu
(Force Ghost)
(Force Sensitive)

You are Mace Windu, former Master of the Order. After your betrayal at the hands of Darth Pikachu, and your subsequent death, you became but a bundle of force energy, drifting in space. You drifted to a small ship, where you quickly found not all is at peace, and you are once again needed. Your skills are very restricted in your force form, and you can only maintain form during the day. In fact, nobody even knows you are here.

ROLE: Force Observation
As a ghost, all you can do is intervene and help as you can. If you occupy the same room as any battle between the Rebels and the Empire or Sith, you have a 30% chance of turning the tide of the battle.

If another player views a list of players in the same area you are in, you will appear as “Shadow”

Each Night you will PM me with what area of the ship you want to observe for the night.

Win Condition: Town Wins

Can we keep the next game well under 9 months?

This game was exactly 8 Months and 5 Days
So it was under 9 months, :thumb:

Seriously though, other then delays in updates, I don't control how long the game lasts, but I've discussed the delays already, so no point in beating the Pontya. In answer to your question: No guarantees, No promises, No fine print.

@ Scott: I wondered what you contracted PCPB for. That would have been helpful, but at the same time I know Wobbufett didn't want to get his hands dirty.

@Akane: You played very well with the role you were given. The wookiespeak was an excellent touch. Bravo.

@Absol: I completely understand where you are coming from. Most Indubitably. I concur that for many players (myself included), we prefer to have a role with some kind of Night action. It gives you something you can do individually that no one else knows.

Having a role is excellent, and makes the game fun IMO. I totally agree with you.

But at the same time, if everyone has a role, it is no longer unique. And it skews the game towards Night oriented play, rather than Day. I haven't made up my mind whether this is completely bad, since this game had some good Day discussion. Though that might have just been my effect on people.

Regardless, it is something to think about. I don't know how I'll do my game, if/when it ever appears.

Again, fantastic game. Thank you so much Absol!

Additionally, you only get so many "Thanks" per day. Just go back and Thank more posts today.

Thanks for the feedback, I still don't know how I feel about vailla roles. I think though, as I stated before. if I hosted another game, I would still give everyone a role, but if their role was inactive during the night, they would not show up. So a great example of that in thi last game would be thunderjolt and Pikajew1213 who spent most of the game doing nothing in night updates. Those small peices would be removed, which would leave several people unaccounted for in each room. There were quite a few people who did not have an active role during the night. Even you yourself did not use your role every night. I think that would make things much better, but that's all theory

Again Thank You

@ Scott: Yeah, I wish I had too. At the time though, killing theKing (especially considering he wasn't confirmed Giovanni at the time) might have put me in a difficult spot. I couldn't take that risk.

@ Absoltrainer: I actually liked that there were no vanilla roles. Especially with the room mechanic in this game, everyone having a night action allowed us to gather evidence as to who was what in the game. Also, when's the last time someone was like, "Oh, awesome, I got a vanilla role. How cool". Lol. I am actually all for everyone having something to do in the night, makes the game much more fun IMO.

As I stated with Sandslash7 I think you are right, everyone with a role can work, but I think I need to dial back on who I note about in the uodate. Instead of putting 41/41 roles in the update, I only put the active ones, which would reduce it to rouhly 30/41 in earilair updates and other wise keep posting important.

So- out of curiosity: What WAS the deal with the comlink? Or, is the comlink still a"shush" matter?

I look forward to it.

The person running the game obviously does control how long it lasts in a variety of ways. Some constructive suggestions: We could easily reduce the real life time for each game day and night. A less complex story will lead to easier updates and thus less delays. Less overly complex gameplay would help things along too. There don't need to be 60 roles going on for a good game experience.

Looking forward to the next game. When is that happening? Who is running it? How is the person running games decided?

Those are good points. You are correct. The mod does control how long the game last.

Currently Game Days are 7 Real Days and Game Night are 5 Real Days. Those numbers were set by Cardzmaster2004 in the original Werewolf, and while every mod has followed that standard thus far, it is up to the discrepancy of the mod. I personally give a week because from my experience, some people can only get online on Fridays or the weekend, or are otherwise busy throughout the week. Not everyone can or does get on Pokegym every day, so giving them a week to post during the day is I think unavoidable. As for Night times, I think this depends on the game. In this game, I was reminding people all the until real day 5 to get their role in. Especially when you have a big game, you need to give every player time to participate, not just the few most active. Again, some people are just unable to play werewolf except on weekends or Fridays. If you have a small game with players who are getting their roles in ASAP, then perhaps you could lessen the Night days. Again that’s the mod’s decision. I personally would be interested to see someone experiment with those numbers in a game, and if anyone has seen or participated in MafiaScum games with different numbers, please share your experience.

I will not doubt that my story was complex perhaps overly so, and that the long updates sometimes caused delays. That again is totally mod decision. I believe that story is one of the main purposes of werewolf. In fact I believe it is the most important factor in keeping the players interested. A few sentences that say x player died the next day begins gets boring. It’s like a cut-scene in a video game. It’s your reward for making it that far. A boring cut-scene isn’t fun to watch. That is why I make my updates so detailed and long. I want the story to be a real story that the players are a part of. I will warn everyone that any future games I host will have long updates like this one. If you aren’t willing to wait for those updates and except a few delays every so often, don’t play. Now don’t take this to mean I am defending my delays. I’m talking about 1 or 2 day delays and only on a few occasions. When I was hitting a week+ in delays every update, things were out of hand and that was my fault. However I have already accepted blame and apologized for that.

My game also had complex game-play. Again, entirely my choice. This is very similar to a complex story. I purposely wanted a complex game to keep the players interested. If that meant the game would last longer, then I’m willing to except and accept that. I’ve played simple games with 1 detective, 1 preist, 1 seer 5 wolves, and 17 vanilla townies. It’s boring. I’ve played mid-complex games with like 15 roles, 10 vanillas and 6 wolves, it’s fun, but sometimes it’s fun to twist things up a bit. I added the room mechanic and the extra factions because I wanted the game to be complex. Complex gameplay is part of my mod style. It’s something I won’t change, and future games of mine will be just as complex as this one, if not more so. Other mods on the gym will most likely host much less complex games then I, again that’s depending on their mod style.

I discussed roles with Sandslash7 and PCoPB. I’m still iffy on it. Not everyone does need a role, but the people without a role tend to feel left out and unimportant. Again I can limit the information written without taking away roles, but that’s a test for a future game. Also, I didn’t have 60 roles…at least not in this game…my next game though….hmmmmm

In conclusion, I understand where you are coming from Diaz, and you are correct in everything you said. All of those factors are in my control and determine the outcome of the game. I knew this game would be long when I decided to do it with 41 people. You are right though. I could reduce the complexity of the game, the length and detail of the updates, and make the game smaller, but I don’t plan t do any of that. What I plan and will do in any future games I host is to make a much better effort to post updates on time and stick to deadlines I set. That more then anything will reduce the length of the game. That was the biggest reason for this game taking as long as it did.

Looking forward to the next game. When is that happening? Who is running it? How is the person running games decided?

I believe Arcanine/Arbok Master is hosting the next game. He said a few posts above that he should have the sign-ups in the next week or so. Werewolf mods are decided by Cardzmaster2004 who is the unoffical leader of Werewolf game on Pokegym. He decides who hosts Werewolf games and when. If you are interested in modding a game, you should PM him.

It really depends on the player. Personally, I care more about the conversations that happen and looking for 'tells' and trying to catch people making dubious move and plays. I practically stopped playing this game around night 4. The delays were so long that I had forgotten all my internal reads on players and their playstyles. It took me 2 game days to force myself back into playing.

When I was given a role in Cardz game, it was a pure vanilla role. I'll admit, it is slightly disappointing to receive a vanilla role, but not nearly as much as everyone makes it out to be. I would rather have a vanilla role and be in a game that has a lot of posts during the day with only small delays between game days, than have a priest role in a game where daytime discussion is limited and broken up by long night phases.

Obviously not all players will feel the same way I do, and may find the story more hooking than the PvP interactions of the day.

Hmmmm. Reguardless, it's a valid point. One I will take into consideration. I would like to hear other people's opinions on this as well. Obviously if I can maximize both, then I please both parties

Now let me ask you. had the delays not been there, would that have made a difference? So a priest role ins a game that has lots of posts during the day with only small delays between game days? Also, wouldn't it be fair to say that there was lots of posting? The days usually lasted their maximum time. I was under the impression that discussion was pretty high. As least from my point of view. Usually you guys talked for a long time about who to lynch before you did it. Please correct me if I am wrong about this.

Also Arcanine/Arbok Master I would very much like to converse with you on AIM especially while you host your game, if for no other reason then to get your thoughts as you host. You have some very good insight, and I'm very interested to see your modding style.

@ Absoltrainer:

Concerning the roles, your idea about the updates is a good one. I think it is a great idea to only reflect the effects of roles that are being used. Roles that aren't used don't have to be reported. So yeah, I think you are right on with that notion. Give everyone an ability of some kind, but only report the ones that actually have a notable effect on the proceedings. This sounds great to me.

PCPB: I'd thank your post, but I ran out for today. That's a good and functional idea.

In case ya'll missed the new thread, signups are up. taking the first 31 I get. Don't be too concerned if you end up on the replacement list: I am going to try and be hard on inactives.

Oh, sorry. Not sure how I missed that. If the delays had been shorter, that would have helped a lot for me.

The game days themselves were great this game.

I haven't used AIM in ages, but I would certainly like to chat about it! I have mainly used skype in recent times, but I could definitely get an IM client downloaded.

Well, well, well.

Day 1 was very interesting and to be quite honest I had more fun there than on any other day - as I'm sure you could all tell by my relatively lower level of posting in subsequent days.
I'll be honest, I initially only RVS'd onto DP because it was funny, and expected the reaction that I received in regards to RVS - yes, I have gone over every other 'Gym Werewolf game here extensively, as hard as it might be to believe.
I certainly did not expect my RVS choice, DP, to respond in such an aggressive way, especially considering his experience. Most likely the feeling of being RVS'd was alien to him and he responded badly.

I must say, when you make an arbitrary connection like "Darth" to being Sith and you turn out to be right, it's impossible to not imagine that the person you're firing at must have been absolutely scared to death.

Sandslash7, I might not seem to OMWBBQIKR in my posts but that's mainly because it seems to come out with more of a "Dear god, what is this barbecue?" flair.

And for my coup de graçe to make you all go back and shoot yourselves in the foot, especially the wolves, every single time after Day 8 that I said I had a kill, I didn't.

I don't really come on the forums any more, and I don't play that much, but I came back to complain, so here I am.
I'm really peeved about how easily I was given away through no fault of my own. I started out as a normal player at the beginning, then BOOM, night role shows I'm part of a group. Then I'm given away as a dark shadowy player, and then I keep getting more and more suspicious, not through any fault of my own. I think I played as best I could. Most mistakes didn't harm me, and can be attributed to this being my first game. I did exceptionally well for being screwed over every night update. Whatever.

Considering the Sith/yourself were 1 day away from winning I'd say you did great. I spent a good portion of my classes during day 11 calculating how long you needed to win and planning your victory scene. I am sorry you feel like you were "screwed over," but I feel that, essepcially for your first game, you played very well.
