Worlds Championship- why should it be in the US?

I could eventually agree with the idea of 'closed' Nationals if you really want to see a player from the country winning the National

BUT

don't forget that, in the USA, you have A LOT OF main events and A LOT OF opportunities to qualify, win a trip for Worlds, scholarship, lots of boosters, ... (53 Challenges + 13 Regionals + 1 National in 2005).

In Europe we have 1 main event in each country (the National), period.
Challenges were a joke in 2004 and 2005.

While you have a lot of trips offered to you, most European players have 1 ticket to win as many Nationals were run in one age group and trips were given to the 1st national ranked player !

So please, don't leave us with 1 main event/year and give us the opportunity to play other Nationals.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only Disney nutcase...

All day on Sunday I was like, "Hmm, where is Patrick and his hat"

I have the perfect hat signature now and I guess he'll have to wait until the next big event (a Regionals, Nationals, or Worlds) to see me again! :frown:

All I know is that we discussed today that California is not good for us.
We are home for almost a week and still having jetlag problems, huge ones this time.

My husband even said we are not going next year because of this.
I don't know how the other European players managed their jetlag.

I remember asking someone on staff (dont remember who) and was told he thinks because there wouldnt be as many players that would be able to come if it was out of the county and probally be more expensive for the travel awards... ^_^

I fell the reason its in the USA is:

The nintendo company has alot of freedom to choose where they can go an almost no matter where they choose most of the pokemon population can get there. If they shift it overseas then alot of the US population that makes up over 50% of the pokemon community wont be able to get to unless they have the cash to get there or the trip to get there.

Thats just my opinion on it.

I dont think worlds will leave US soil unless japan somehow gets it. Maybe in the next few years if this gets just as big nintendo will think about moving it but for atleast the next 3 or so years it wont leave the US. Only issue i have is why keep it on the far west coast for 2 years running??

100 % agree with you ... if you're talking about the US population.

Players outside the USA are in the situation you discribe.

Not only I'm not sure more than 50 % of the Pokemon players are in the USA only, I'd also like people not to forget that :

ESTS 2000 - New York - USA
ESTS 2001 - New York USA
WSTS 2001 - San Diego - USA
Worlds 2002 - Seattle - USA
GenCon 2003 - ?? - USA
Worlds 2004 - Orlando - USA
Worlds 2005 - San Diego - USA
Worlds 2006 - Anaheim - USA
Various Origins - USA
Various GenCon - USA

Other countries ... nothing.

All these STS's and Worlds have seen a lot more US players getting a trip+hotel than players from other countries.

Honestly, I don't believe that a Worlds in Europe would be a shame, even if it's more expensive for the US players

why is that? All the canadians get trips regardless anyway....and i wanna defend my title =(

You can always challenge the Canadian National Champion (after they win) to an apprentice match 2 out of 3

I know it's not the same, if I win (which of course I plan to  ) I'll give you a shot at defending the title (unofficially) and you can then be the Unofficial Canadian National Champion
In fact if you play Apprentice, I wouldn't mind a shot at the current Canadian National Champion

On a side note the Canadian's wouldn't get the invites to Worlds anyway ? There is only 4 invites for the Nationals as far as I know, the only way 5th or 6th get trips is if someone in the top 4 already have trips. So theoretically speaking if enough Americans came to the Canadian Gym and Nationals all of the Canadian invites could go to Americans  I could be wrong about this but I don't think so.
