How weird, I was playing i did 30 damage to plusle, when it had 20 damage on it, then it said, " KnockOut" but i didint even knock it out. Then the next, i knocked it out for real, but it didint say knock out.

Hm... I get an "Error Loading - A connection to the server could not be made because of Flash Player security restrictions."

Of course I have allowed scripts & flash and tried a different browser, but it's still the same. =(

I'm having the same problem. I just figured it had to do with my work's firewall.

I'm just as pleased as punch over this thing!

It seems that I start a "WHY DON'T WE HAVE A POKEMON TCG VIDEO GAME" thread every single year and, now, it's become a reality.

So, I'm just SO excited!

AS A LEAGUE OWNER:

This is, already, an invaluable teaching tool. The virtual league scenario is priceless as it gives the kids a mindset that they are expected to get around the room and play a variety of other people (with varying personalities).

The "theme deck upgrade" approach is pheonominal for showing new players how they can BEGIN with a theme deck and switch in cards that HELP their existing build (i.e. One more Meganium in a meganium theme deck).

I love how it makes you earn the deck upgrade. There's a level of excitement that is added to the experience when you've benched a stage 1 and have been grinding the game out while waiting for the stage 2 ==> you're thinking "If I could just get that stage 2 out when I need it." Then, the game gives you MORE of that precious stage 2 card! That's EXCITING when you're new to the game (it was exciting for ME and I saw it coming .. ahahahhaaa!)

My league has about 42 juniors right now. None of them have been playing more than 1 1/2 years. About 32 of them have been playing less than 6 months. So, an online game that hasn't been structured like this one is just SO GOOD for my kids right now.

As a league leader, I can simply send the kids to the site and let them practice on their own. They'll show up to league with a MUCH better understand of the game (except they'll be insanely confused by the T1 trainers/supporter plays ==> LOLz  )

Yeah. The game has its crash spots. I tried to evolve a Grotle to Torterra FTW!! and the game simply froze-up at that point.

I love where the game is going with the "points for upgrade" scheme. Those are always the funnest types of games (remember the old truck race arcade game that let you upgrade your engine, tires, etc with 'prize money' ?).

I truly believe that giving people the ability to learn the game in a non-threatening way, at their own pace, in the leisure of their own homes will do SO MUCH good for this game.

Now, some Radical Suggestions:

Spirit of the Game: awareness:

1. Penalties: In the upper levels of tournament play, it would be great to see a competitor with a bad attitude get cautions, warnings, prize penalties, and DQs for misconduct such as poor attitude, cheating, and even accidental misplays (like shuffling hand or prizes into the deck). You could make it less predictable by making it happen to random opponents instead of "THAT GUY" who's bad news.

2. Sportsmanship rewards: It'd be great to see a "offer to handshake" or "offer to cut" or "allow opponent to take back the previous move" option. These simply features would promote good sportsmanship. If the computer, somehow, kept up with how often you've participated in those small gestures, there could be a "GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BONUS CARD." :thumb:

3. Doorprizes: Some tourneys could have a free shirt or hat giveaway that could be used to customize your avatar/character. That'd be a cute little feature

RULES AWARENESS features:

1. "ALLOW"? Earn your OWN infractions by making the wrong call! (LOLz!!) In higher levels of play, have a pop up that asks if you're going to allow your opponent to make a particular play (i.e. "Your opponent just attached a 2nd energy (same turn) to Rapidash. Allow?" If you allow it you get a caution. In the "infractions round," you could earn yourself a prize loss! That's how you get some new eyes into the rulebooks!

2. BONUS POP QUIZ: Using a similar quiz like the one that already exists on Pokemon.com's "How to Play the Pokemon TCG Game" flash tutorial, players could earn bonus points by taking a bonus quiz after winning a big tournament (or before one begins). The quiz would be in a similar fashion to the professor test where they'd have a small number of question and a TIME TICKER!! That'd be fun. 10 Questions, 5 minutes ... GO!!! (and you have the annoying sound effect of 'tick-tock' along with a timer counting down .. ahahahahahaa  )

Anyway, just some ideas for way down the road.

I'm just viewing this as an EXCELLENT opportunity to prepare new players for organized play.

IMO, after winning the highest levels available (whatever those levels may be), a new player should be able to transistion right into league and tournament play without too much of a learning curve at all.

Alright, so I just finished doing the Triple Crown with the Grass deck ( nothing beats the Meganium once it gets up! ) and I have to say I am unbelievably impressed by the Beta.

The graphics and interface are great. Everythings easy to do and simple to understand. The evolving/flipping animations get old after awhile but I imagine in the final version those will be able to be turned on/off ( and may already be able to be done, I haven't looked too hard ) Everything I'd want to do in a real, competitive game is simple and accessible from what I've seen.

As someone whose used Magic Online a lot, I vastly prefer this so far. It is crisper, and easier to use. The graphics and "prettiness" help lure in the casual player, and don't detract from the competitive players experience so I approve. The Avatar customization ( at least long term, a lot of the features aren't yet unlocked ) is a lot more diverse than I was expecting to see.

The AI is atrocious. I had some guy asleep, he played his Plus Power, then passed the turn, discarding it. On that note, it seems very difficult to create a good AI program for a TCG anyways, but I also noticed a difficulty setting option? I'll assume its starting at "Very Easy" and can be changed, even if the initial release doesn't have the option ( I didn't check. )

I had issues with the achievments as well. I only got credit for the first four but I did all but likely 4-5 of them. Actually, I just re-logged in, and the acheivements were updated. So that isn't an issue after all. As addressed earlier, the Perfectionist one isn't working though. I won a number of games without giving up a prize and it isn't being accredited.

Now, having no real complaints about the Beta, I do have a few suggestions/hopes for the final product.

Chess Timers. Magic Online uses them, and they are pretty much necessary for any sort of online tournament. In fact, its something that makes me PREFER playing online to in person, as the whole "stalling" issue is easily negated.

I guess I'll actually just sum it up with something I suspect is being done anyways. Magic has a negative stigma to it in other TCG circles, but Magic Online is a huge success and a perfect model to use for examples. If the final product for this is even similar to what MTGO offers, I will be extremely thankful. I've been waiting for years for this and so far it appears to be exactly what I was hoping for. Great job guys, I couldn't be more stoked!

This version reminds me alot of the Japanese TCG simulator that was out last year. Though at leased you can't rig the coins like you could in the Japanese one.

And is it me or can the AI be really... strange at times to say the least. This just happened to me about an hour ago.

I start with a Hoothoot. He starts with Jynx, a Duskull and something else.
I go first and play Copycat and draw 4. I then attach an energy to Hoothoot and play 3 bench. I attack with Hypnosis and Jynx wakes up.
My opponent attaches an energy to Jynx, plays Prof Elm (getting a Dusklops) and then attacks with Mimic, shuffles their hand into their deck and draws 0. They lost their whole hard and the Dusklops that they just searched for.
My turn. I attach an energy to Chicorita, retreat and attack for 10.
The opponent then draws a card and then uses Mimic again and gets rid of the card they just drew.

The rest of the game went normally. But that was definately an interesting play on their part. I never would have thought of that... strategy.

... And is it me or can the AI be really... strange at times to say the least.
The AI definitely doesn't always make the smartest play, but when you think about the programming logic that must be needed to sort through the hundreds of possible combination of actions available, with even the limited card pool used, it must be a programming nightmare. It is amazing that the AI can actually win some of the games.

That's awesome that you can play it in the browser. That opens up a ton of possibilities for it to be played on most computers. Also, it means the game doesn't have to be downloaded and installed, meaning that it could be played in the library or on a friend's computer without having to mess with files.

Okay, I've chosen my deck and coin, it's all being running smoothly. Now, it's stalled. Is there no "Loading" sign, to at least show me the game is loading something?

Good choice in first opponent deck type, neutral to all 3 starting choices.

How to play the TCG?

Questions I'm asking that I didn't see discussed.

I need to attach energy to attack, but how many energy can I attach in one turn?

Back-up Pokemon on the bench? Can I put any pokemon down as a back-up pokemon? (lets see this changed from back-up to basic)

Win conditions: Is decking the opponent not an option? It certainally isn't addressed.

Yay, finally playing.

The drawing card animation is a bit slow, when it is multiplied for 6-7 cards. This animation cannot be sped up, or it will be weird and perhaps unnerving, but perhaps it can be replaced with an animation where the entire hand it placed on top of the deck, and the deck is then shuffled, and then cards are drawn (for the cases where someone is shuffling in their entire hand).

Choose your active pokemon. Okay, I have two options. When I hover over them, an eye icon appears underneith them. Okay, I can click on the eye to get a larger view of the card. Hmm, when I hover off the card, going for the eye, the eye disappears. Maybe it means I have to click on the card to get the zoomed in look. Oops, just selected my active pokemon. DANGIT.

The eye stayed in place this time. Click on the eye to zoom, got it.

Animation for prizes was quick, which kind of startled me, but was effective, better than the drawing of a new hand (or shuffling of hand) animation.

Choose heads or tails...but don't click on the image of heads or tails, click on the buttons heads or tails that are hidden in the bottom left corner away from the image of the coin... :( Perhaps we should be able to click on the side of the coin we want.

Nice coin animation. No need to argue about # of flips in the air, right, ;)

Now I find out that I can only attach one energy per turn.

So, clicking on an energy, the game already knows that I want to attach it to one of my pokemon. That's a bit unnerving, but makes sense.

I can undo my last action...nice!

The board/playing area is just freakin' beautiful. Amazing looking, actually.

Play trainer cards? Where is the option for playing supporter or stadium cards? Or are we back to Trainer = Supporter, Trainer, Stadium mess that we've flipped flopped back and forth from in the past years?

For a new player, they see Supporter written twice on the card. Nowhere does it say TRAINER on it. Why can I play a supporter when I click on the 'Play a trainer' option?

Let's attack! (WAIT)..............what is going on? Did it crash..........

Holy crap my opponent took their turn quick. Now it's my turn again?

NICE evolution animation!

Attacking this time didn't take any time at all.

Yay, I knocked out my opponent's two pokemon.

The music is back...

Oooh, I got a kingdra! Perfect for my Croconaw/Seadra deck!

I like the statistics.

The deck automatically removed an energy to put in the Kingdra -- effective but I wish I had control. I wish it would have told me the changes to the deck that were made when I got the extra cards. I had to look at my deck to find out. Some people may never look at their deck, but will have to, once they see changes in their games.

Let's look at the avatar creator. I want to look different than just a silhouette.

100%..........................................................

Still loading at 100%......wow.

Lunch break!

Uhhh.....

Okay, back to the trainer challenge, because that just isn't loading.

This one seems stuck at 99%.

Can I play something, please?

Okay, I think that is enough waiting for today.

Good looking beta, hope to play more of it soon.

Has anyone mentioned that you have to reload the game in order for your achievements to update? Frankly that is very annoying if you are going for achieves.

Also not sure if this was mentioned already but the achievement "Perfectionist" is not working. I've won multiple games where the computer did not draw a prize. Unless this achievement is for PvP, then it is bugged. It says "opponent" in the tooltip, so that may be referencing a human opponent but it should be clearer. Maybe saying human opponent if it is only for playing vs other players.

its interesting to note that i saw no cards earlier than sf which could maybe mean we will have a sf -on format who knows

Actually that may be a big possibility. At least Uxie will be gone is they do this. And I assume since they would rotate again in september to make 4 sets rotated.

One more error in the game. When a supporter is played it doesn't stay on the board it goes straight to the discard yet there is a slot on the board for supporters. The supporter card should be on the play area until the end of turn, where it is then discarded.

Black and White rules. Supporters are discarded immediately. IMO bad rule.

Yah it is a bad rule. However what is the point of a "Supporter" area on the board if supporters don't even stay on the board. They should just get rid of it if its not in the b/w rules.

From my very limited testing with a PL-on format, SP decks still seemed to dominate. The absence of Uxie hurts, but it hurts everything else as well. With new B&W rules, SP decks gain while Stage 2 decks are hurt (with the altered Rare Candy). I built my PL-on SP decks to recover from a mid to late-game Judge by dropping my 3 Uxie and techs (like Weavile G, Blaziken FB, whatever) for greater consistency (VS Seeker, PONT, even Pokegear 3.0 for grabbing Conspiracy). It worked very well and provided the deck with consistency at nearly every phase of the game. Decks like Gyarados, meanwhile, are hurt very badly by the absence of Uxie. So if you're hoping that an Uxie-less format will slow down SP, it's likely that it won't.

To stay on topic, I got a chance to play the online TCG yesterday. I enjoyed it! I also think this is a wonderful opportunity for PUI to establish an online game supported by participation at real-life tournaments and leagues. Instead of making it so that people have to purchase online packs, why not let them earn packs by showing up for leagues or tournaments (or judging, etc.)? Just throwing that out there.
