Just a interesting Note.

In the IOWA State Championship, there were only 2 undefeated players after 5 rounds. Myself (37 y/o dad) and a 9 y/o. Both going to make the finals of age group. Because of the numbers (not a super large group total of 50?), the TO match both of us for the 6th round.

The 9 y/o kicked my butt, and was the only one undefeated in Swiss.

I could see PUI doing this bc of the trip awards. If you are under 18, you get a travel award and so does your parent/legal guardian. If they changed the upper age group from 15+ to 18+, they eliminate the possibility of 1 more travel award ergo saving some money. (Not saying PUI would do this based solely on money issues, they aren't losing money for sure) Look at the winners in 15+ division so far at regionals. I betcha many are close to the 18 year old line, just above or under. I dont see many major problems with the age group 13-17. IMHO the 11 & 12 yr olds will run over most of the younger ages in that group though (read as 7-9 yr olds).

Come on, don't you know the average player age is 27?

Also, don't forget that pesky law about kids under 13 needing parental permission for stuff.

I agree with you.
The possible age cap would save both time.
Time= You don't have to check the age of a player over and over again.
Not much emphasis on Money issue.
12- (is the age of elementary school students and Junior high school, hope im right on this one)
13-17 ( just before legal age, High school, junior college?)
18+ (Legal age!! eliminates many unwanted competitons from younger kids btw 15-17!! haha...)

I hope all this would be established...
If the old age cap remains, I still don't mind...
Cause the bottomline is to for players to get to play!

Actually, 12 and under is elementary age with some 7th graders mixed in.
13 through 17 would be junior/senior High ages
18+ would indeed be adults, with some 12th graders mixed in.

Just for the record, I don't think they are going to change the age categories. Just a hunch, so don't get too worked up about this.

Actually it would make a lot of sense. They've already hinted at changing the age limit on professors to 18+ only, so changing the age groups around, to go along with that, would make a lot of sense.
