Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2007-2008 Modified Format Announced! Major Changes!

Uh-huh...so POP wants to make the game easier to get into. Well, obviously they didn't consider people (like me) who decided to get into the game just a few months ago. I have spent MAJOR money on trying to make tournament viable decks (having to buy Transceivers, Mentors, other holons, Banettes, Mews, you name it). Now, it is like that investment means absolutley nothing! POP just wasted a boatload of my extra cash that I spent in good faith. I really like the new DP sets, but this is incredibly aggrivating from an accounting point of view. I may never compete in a tournament again if it means wasting this kind of money....

Sorry, but it was a pretty decent chance that DS would rotate out since they only rotated out 3 last year and have been releasing 4 sets a year.
The only surprise, really, was the Legend Maker also got rotated out as a fifth set. To catch up, I guess.

For long term investment in game cards, the newer sets make more sense. On the other hand, since DS Trainers have been so important in this year's decks, I can see getting them, but one has to be aware that there was a high chance of them rotating out at the end of this season. Can't really blame POP. Modified and rotations every year is not a new thing.

I hear you. Over the last two weeks I had to spend just over $107 US on cards for my nationals deck, and now I'll get to use them in Nats, at Origins, and at Worlds (AHAHAHAHA ok maybe not), and nothing else.

To be fair though, as much as this makes me not happy, I suppose I didn't really expect it to be DS-on. I AM happy Metanite is toast, though. And I won't be missing Lugia ex at all, either.

Think outside of the box people.
Its really not so bad
I can think of one combo right now that could work.
I think thats what POP might be trying to do.

I can't belive it at all. After all of the thought I put inot a new Banette deck, it all slips away before my eyes... well, back to the drawing board...

This did say something, but it doesn't really matter anymore.

Don't know who you're talking to, but I am actually 'glad' about what sets are rotating. My problem is the money I already spent to make my decks competitive (mostly put into getting transceivers and other stuff DX-LM). Even though such a thing would've been impossible, I guess a little warning would've been nice (and yes, I read the speculative thread about what the next format would be, and the concensus was that it would be DS on, so...).

I would consider an announcement from PUI/OP on June 4, 2007 QUITE a warning considering Worlds isnt until August! A few years ago, the rotation change was announced at Worlds, then a bit before that in the more recent past. This is the earliest (I believe) they have made the rotation announcement. Cards get rotated out every year. Yes, you gotta spend some money to get "up" on the game, but if the format was kept with all the cards, how much do you think Trans would go for next year??? How "easy" would it be for newbies to get involved then?

Thank you POP!! Another brilliant move to help improve this wonderful game! I see big things in store for everyone that continues to play and support Pokémon TCG! My condolences to all the holon engine players, but no tear will be shed as I never had any fun playing with or against it.

I must admit feeling both ways about it. I am disappointed to see the Holon engine crippled like this, but at the same time, I am optimistic about the potential that the format rotation combined with upcoming sets will slow the game down a little bit. Up until the release of DP, it was all about maximizing hand size and energy acceleration. With no disruption cards (e.g., Rocket's Admin), it really came down to a race to see who could capitalize on their resources faster. Which isn't altogether necessarily a bad thing, I just enjoyed the game a bit more when disruption played a bit of a larger role and board setup required more than 2-3 turns.

Cheers,
S.

AND I JUST TRADED FOR A NEW SET OF TRANSCEIVER!

*explodes*

Ah, well it sounds fun. Can't wait. Thankfully I didn't try to get my hands on more Banette ex/Mew ex/etc.

Thanks PUI for letting us know.
