Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2007-2008 Modified Format Announced! Major Changes!

the thing about it is like Add38 was mentioning you guys could have let us know before hand that this was going to be the case. now a lot of spend a lot of money on their nats decks just to give those cards up a month later, way to really try to bring new players in POP:rolleyes:

Today's date: 6/4/2007
US Nationals date: 7/7/2007
Effective date: 9/1/2007

Run that by me one more time?

I'm in europe and used the pokepedia for the search...

Professor Rowan is missing from pokepedia, as is Rival. Rowan is a good draw card, I'm not so sure about Rival.

Ive added the two cards you mention to my list.

No problem. Just thought I would point it out. I have fun with Rival though. Rival gets me 3 cards and can make an opponent second guess themselves. I have gotten what I have needed multiple times because the opponent thinks they know what I need or don't need.

M_Liesik, you might as well tell us the format for 2008-2009 now so that people are happy :/

This did say something, but it doesn't really matter anymore.

It is extremely disappointing that PUI decided to announce the rotation of sets so early. I have a bunch of cards that was worth alot of money. My family have 9 transceivers, Mew ex, dragonites, etc. I was planning on trading some of the cards before the rotation. PUI needs to be more consistent as to when they announce the rotation of sets. The players need to plan when to trade away cards which might be rotated. This poor decision by PUI in announcing it this early has cost alot of players real money.

As for who makes money on the secondary market, how do you think the sellers on the secondary market acquires these cards? They buy boxes and cases of sets! PUI makes a bundle on these secondary sellers.

If PUI plans to announce set rotations at random times then my family will no longer need to buy boxes nor boosters, since we could potentially be stuck with cards we dont need. We will only buy the cards we want to make decks with. We will not carry "inventory". It would surely be cheaper this way. PUI will see sales drop.

I am exasperated that they announced it right before nationals and worlds. They gave us no opportunity to trade away our cards. We might make the decision to leave the game. If we do stay, we will not buy any cards in advance of any tournaments since we dont know when PUI will announce set rotation therefore might be able to buy the cards we need for pennies. How much is the transceiver worth today, just about zero.

Whether we like it or not, Pokemon cards are commodities. The value will go up and down depending on supply and demand. In any centralized commodity market, all "major" commodity news is a scheduled event that everyone will know when the announcement is made. For example the corn commodity has a crop report which everyone knows exactly when it will come out, not some random time. The players can plan accordingly knowing when that crop report is due. The only news someone can't predict is some extraneous event like weather or war. Pokemon TCG needs to have a planned consistent date or time of season when rotations are announced. This event will probably cost my family nearly $400, thats not small change.

I don't have a problem with set rotation but I do have a problem with the random time when the announcement is made. PUI has a right to make money but the players have a right to protect their investment also.

ALLRIGHT, already. Since it is obviously that no one cares about small people, this will be my final post on the subject.

Attacking people just because they want to keep playing, but can't, is cruel. NO, I'm not on the PUI board of directors, but I am a customer that pays into their accoutns.

All I'm trying to do is make people understand that there are some people who love to play this game, but are going to be hurt by this. LIKE I SAID, I would love to be able to keep playing, but I won't be able to because my spare dollars for Poke is null, and the cards that I already have to use aren't usable.

No one is attacking you. You need to consider the players LIKE YOURSELF who have little to spend on inflated secondary market pricing. They will more easily find the cards they need, at the store, at retail prices, with a fresher format.

If your argument were taken to the nth degree, then our format should be Base Set 1-On, in order to make it 'affordable' to those who have been in it since the beginning, and invested in all of those cards. However, that would be EXTREMELY unfair to newer players, who have no access to those long out of print cards.

We get your point, but, that is not what our decisions are based upon.

Thanks,
Prof. Dav

It's good to see Holon engine is out for now.

Too broken IMO.

I am expecting LM on or HP on.

I knew that will happen.

2008-2009 rotation will be DP-on, I am sure of it.

New archtypes would be:

Delcatty variants
Infernape variants
Feraligatr variants
Shiftry ex variants
etc

=)

Thanks M_Liesik. It's always good to hear why decisions were made.

Any reason why Legend Maker was rotated out? I'm feeling part of it was because of it's release date before DS in Japan (and in the US they decided to release it after DS).

:confused:I have been stump on this one. Can we please keep it.

I don't see this sparking much creativity. People will probably move on to the next most efficient set up. Before the Holon Engine it was Jirachi. Before that it was Dunsparce.

I'm very sad to see Banette ex and Mew ex go. Does it feel to anyone else like Legend Maker just came out last year? Oh wait, it did. And why does Japan gets a larger pool of cards to work with in their rotation? (I realize they have to switch to our format at Worlds.)

And why does Japan gets a larger pool of cards to work with in their rotation? (I realize they have to switch to our format at Worlds.)

Because they are Japan and are not managed by POP.

Add to that, that EVERY series in Japan has different set legality rules.

Sometimes thier pool is larger, sometimes it isn't.

Thanks,
Prof. Dav

man that really stinks. My favoirite deck Bandoom being rotated out :nonono: . CURSE YOU POP!!!!!. Sigh looks like i have to find a new deck to be my buddy now. You will all soon find out what deck im going to play next year he he he he.

PUI needs to be more consistent as to when they announce the rotation of sets.

About the same time last year, eh? I like to think we're being consistant, not random.

As for who makes money on the secondary market, how do you think the sellers on the secondary market acquires these cards? They buy boxes and cases of sets! PUI makes a bundle on these secondary sellers.

Play with them, trade them, sell them, collect them, whatever. Once you've bought them, they're yours.

Actually, we find that players prefer a heads up, rather than be surprised the day of the new tournament season. That's why we changed to a 3 month lead time. This is especially important now that there is a Premier Event series that starts very shortly after Worlds (Autumn Battle Roads).

Again, we're more concerned about the play environment than whether or not you can pull a fast one on a player that isn't up on the news.

Whether we like it or not, Pokemon cards are commodities. The value will go up and down depending on supply and demand. In any centralized commodity market, all "major" commodity news is a scheduled event that everyone will know when the announcement is made. I don't have a problem with set rotation but I do have a problem with the random time when the announcement is made. PUI has a right to make money but the players have a right to protect their investment also.

See above.

This looks like it'll be a GREAT format!

Thank you PUI/POP/whoever!
Just get rid of that darn rating system and I think a lot of people will be VERY happy.

I understand where Adde8 is coming from by all means. Transceivers were the card you loved to hate. A lot of us spent good money on them to get them for our decks, thinking we would get one more season with them.

The early announcement really is going to slam the player market. A lot of people see that announcement and automatically think "crap, I can't get anymore of those cards because they are now worthless."

Have people thought about how this may actually help the player base for the 2007-08 season? Now that the format will be HP-on, it will give new players a chance to get cards from all of those sets.

I started playing at the beginning of this season, and it was really hard to get ahold of cards from DX-UF. Once in a while I'd spot them, but I think I ended up getting three packs total. With HP, CG, DF, PK, DP still in production, kids will be able to access those cards a bit better. It may really look bad now, but I think it's going to be for the better.
