Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2007-2008 Modified Format Announced! Major Changes!

Here is my take on this,

I personally know that Mike, Dave, and others take a long time to decide what is exactly to take out of the format. Plus everyone needs to relize that even they have some restrictions on what they do because of PCL. I cant say I am not disappointed that DS isnt on when in JPN DS came after LM, but I can understand why they chose to rotate it. I can totally agree that the holon engine is way too "controlling" and non-holon engine decks dont usually do very well. Which turns away some "players" that dont have tons of money to spend on cards. I think that the only thing that really really bothers me and I hope that PUI/POP/PCL fixes this is that if the next set doesnt have any card to take pokemon/energy back from the discard pile that a card be placed in P6 (If there is one) for this very reason. I already know what I am gonna do with my "old" cards that are being rotated. (All of you who say ebay are 100% wrong btw). I completely support the majority (98%) of the decision made by PUI/POP/PCL. I think they do a great job and the game continues to grow.

who in the world made Delta species go??? it makes mercury go away!!!!! :nonono::nonono::nonono:

AND metanite
AND Boom
AND Rk-lutions
AND Flariados
AND Mewtrick

the only decks we're gonna have after this is Infernape and a crippled Eggs...

Those decks are all current decks. What makes you think they'd be playable in 3 months from now anyway? Do you really think Infernape and Eggs will be the only available choices now, and will be the two options you'll have the choose between for Cities 2007-2008?

The game was doomed when Rocket's Admin was rotated out.

Actually, I think that Rocket's Admin rotating out was part of the reason why the Holon Engine and Holon's Castform could become so dominant. With no way to stop a giant hand of 12+ cards, and the Holon Engine to supply Holon's Castform with Basic Pokémon, it became just a too good of a starter.

In my personal (non-POP employee) opinion, the Holon Engine has a strangle hold on the Modified format. It is stifling creativity, and killing the pace of games. Removing it (or at least most of it) from the environment is a good thing, and all should rejoice about its impending demise.

I very much agree with this, but I think it's an effect of the removal of Admin. By getting both out of the way, we might find room again for many different Trainer engines and more "traditional" deck structures. Next season will be interesting and fun. :thumb:

Glad you think so. Got the money to buy all the packs and cards you'll need?

Actually, being a devoted player I find ways to minimize the amount of money I spend by doing well in tourneys.
You gotta spend some money though. I understand that you are dissapointed because of all the money you wasted, BUT all of us are in the same boat. I mean we all had to fork out some good money to make those MetaNite/Flygon/Bandoom decks that abused the Holon Engine, so get over it and stop being so full of yourself. A lot of people spent that money on decks to try to win but most importantly to HAVE FUN. I mean seriously, why do you go to tourneys if you only want to win. Did you have fun this season? If so, then you don't need to be complaining about spending money. Why do you spend 10-20 bucks every time you go to the movies? So you can HAVE SOME FUN! That's the whole point of spending the money. And if you are playing for different motives, then you shouldn't play at all. Nobody wants to hear so many complaints from one person. There are worst things that can happen rather than losing out on that 50+ bucks you spent to pay for that Holon Engine.

Don't panic before the season even has started. You don't need to buy everything at once in a hectic "card collection update" just because the format is getting updated. Just attend prereleases like you normally do, trade a bit and buy the occasional pack like you always do, and wait until Battle Roads/Cities start and get the final cards you need for your deck. Seriously, this is how it's always worked for me. I'm sure you still have many good cards which are not going to be rotated out anyway, and we can't know yet what the next top decks (of the fall) will be.

I'M SO FARKING HAPPY!!!

Buying/building a tournament deck is still probably cheaper than all the other things that we have to do in order to be competative within OP.

Tournament decks don't last very long before they have to be changed. True they evolve so its not like buying a whole new deck but even with gradual change they don't last forever. POP have given us several months notice of the demise of our current decks. That's probably better than springing it on us with only a weeks notice. Short term it will probably be cheaper to build holon engine based decks as everyone knows that their life is limited. Transcievers that players were holding onto for a variety of reasons will be more readily available. Same for those eeveelutions.

You played some people at premier tourneys lately? I DO LIKE TO HAVE FUN, but many players don't. I like to at least stand a chance when I play. Believe me guy, I lose consistently. I'm not a very good deck builder, and I am not respected in the least. I've been slowly building towards better skills, but a lot of those cards that I used to get there (not just Holon) are now going to be unusable.

Oh, and excuse me, I am trying to stick up for people who can't afford to keep forking out money. Don't accuse me of being full of myself when my intentions are for defense only.

OK fine you can say whatever you want. BUT not being able to fork out money? Please! YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY if you want to be involved in card games. It's not a cheap hobby, the least bit. I am one of those cheapskates who hates spending money, but I find a way to make money to spend on my hobby because I enjoy it. You HAVE TO fork out money in card games. I am not rich as most people aren't, but the money problem can be fixed by getting a job, mowing lawns, babysitting etc. REMEMBER everybody is in almost the same situation in having to give up their well-paid for cards.

Theres a card in DP2 that allows you to bring back pokemon from the discard to your deck (non-supporter). It might bring back basic energy too. No worries :D

According to the spoilers, that's basically Nightly Garbage Run with a different name. So can I just use the old card instead since I have a stack of those?

Well, I am kinda disappointed that it is HP-on since I do miss the Transceivers and the rest of the Delta Pokemon (the good thing is that I didn't pay much for those). I guess that means that 2008-2009 will finally be DP-on since the rest of the Delta-block and Power Keepers will be rotated out. I hope that next season's metagame will be as well varied as this season. (Edit: Looks like PokePop knows what I am talking about assuming he is thinking the same time frame and deck)

Farewell Delta Species, I hardly know you since I returned this Feb

ALLRIGHT, already. Since it is obviously that no one cares about small people...

Attacking people just because they want to keep playing, but can't, is cruel. NO, I'm not on the PUI board of directors, but I am a customer that pays into their accoutns.

All I'm trying to do is make people understand that there are some people who love to play this game, but are going to be hurt by this. LIKE I SAID, I would love to be able to keep playing, but I won't be able to because my spare dollars for Poke is null, and the cards that I already have to use aren't usable.

aade8: I'm really sorry that you're upset by this. I understand that you spent money on a tourney deck.
But POP is not making this decision to mess with you. Believe me.
They have to look at the big picture, the purpose of organized play. And the health of organized play.
I've lived through a stale format when overpowered combos hung on for too long.
It had a killing effect on the game.
Play this or lose.
That's not healthy for a game.
It would be bad for the game to allow DS to stay.
