Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

2009 - 2010 League Cycle - UXIE AND CLAYDOL

I heard you can get a whole playset of promo cards each season. That's 4 Uxies!

This Uxie is being made like this just to distract us from how stupid and crazy Heart Gold and Soul Silver sets are going to be.... Check out Pokebeach if you haven't already. -_-
What's stupid about the sets? Don't see any problems there.

OK so when people show up they get points, instead of playing to get points? What is the point of even playing then, you just hop into your local league for 5 minuntes, get "participation" points, and then later get a card?

Maybe I am not understanding this...

Players don't show up and get points, typically.

Players need to earn points via battling, in this case TC or VG.

In the original post, there were several links to OP League. That might be a good read.

I will say this again, this move is absolutely brilliant. I belong to several leagues and run one of them. The turnout at all these leagues is fairly substantial.
I don't think there will be any "substantial" growth.

For the most part, leagues have no problem attracting and maintaining players. The only hurdle is matter of advertising to tell people that a league is in a particular location. Players like to play, and they liked the POP packs and badges. They keep coming back because they have friends there or because they're looking to test decks.

The only difference will be the attraction of competitive players.

The only reason this is a good move is because it gives those leaguers some really good cards to work with.

Did anyone see this?

"During the Trainer Challenge season, players may not only battle other attendees with one of the Pokémon video games (such as Pokémon Platinum Version, Pokémon Diamond, or Pokémon Pearl), but the scorecard will also have a dedicated track for just that purpose! When battling using one of the Pokémon video games, players should agree ahead of time what rules they will play by." Also, "Because video game matches can often be resolved faster than TCG matches, players will be required to complete more of those matches in order to earn prizes." along with" Players will also be able to earn a sleek-looking adhesive skin designed to decorate their Nintendo DS. Each season of the Trainer Challenge cycle players will have the opportunity to work towards earning a DS skin based on our league themes. In addition to the promo card earned for reaching a single Poké Ball, those who go a step further and actually reach all four Poké Balls on a single side of their score card two seasons in a row will also earn one of the exclusive skins! These skins will be awarded at the end of even numbered seasons."

Looks promising.

Yeah well my favorite forum handle BigIrishGod is kinda long, so for the past few years I've used Biggie. :thumb:
When I worked with a company called Privateer Press it was practically my name. Don't worry though; you can just call me Dan. ;)

oh yeah i remember that company
welcome to the pogeymanz
hope u like it lolz
changing from pirate ships to talking animals
OHH RIGHT!

Thank god that "working for badges" and pop packs are gone... I miss the old league where you got a badge for just showing up... Now were back to basics with promo cards, just like back in the old days

Forget Uxie, I'm curious which Snorlax we're giving out.

I agree i would like to see which one it is too.
Although it's probably the "Bad Rare" RR one.

-ok- for all of you people who won't miss the badges-
well I like badges, and I am sure - as well as many other players would have liked to see an "Orange Island" Season (only 4 badges ~_~)/
or other badges/ or set of badges. There were a few other people in this thread who seemed to miss badges too.

I do understand the Orange islands were only in the anime, and the only island close to that in the video game is Whirl island (where Lugia is in G/S)
*sigh*.

There are a lot of league players who will miss the badges. A lot of them are younger and are unlikely to post on Pokegym.

Something that it says in the document is that LLs can no longer back order league supplies. Since badges are normally a part of a set or continuity, it would make such a policy difficult. It sounds like the seasons are going to be more like stand alone seasons that all fall under one theme, instead of trying to collect 'em all.

With such a policy, it is very important that players attend league atleast once a season. Skipping a season means you may not be able to get what you missed last season since it can't be back ordered.

Sad to see badges go.

I am sorry to see the badges and the POP packs go. :frown: These prizes are great for younger players giving them easily achievable goals and something to strive for. I understand that the new prizes are more playable but most of the younger / newer kids don't care about those things, not at first anyway. Why not make special badge cards instead of pins. Or even special league cards (maybe energy cards).

I've seen very little here about collectors. Some kids just love to collect and trade cards to complete sets, that's was one of the beauty of the POP packs.

Don't get me wrong, I think overall the changes are good, I just wanted to speak up for some of the younger players.

Thanks

This is a super move! I hope future season promos include GE Claydol and SW Roseanne's Research. The OVERPRICED hoards of many of the key deck drivers has kept too many people from getting more involved in POP. By offering these cards as rewards for League Play, attendance and the number of competative decks should increase dramatically!

Just in time for the new League in Melbourne, FL! Welcome all - to the Falcons' Nest!

I love badges too, but it was getting really boring collecting the same badges over again.

The energy symbol badges were very creative, kudos to whoever at TPCi thought that up. Probably my favorite badges since the game's creation.

But that kind of creativity can't solve the problem every time, and thus this time we don't have badges.

I look forward to all the promo cards. Especially if we get a RARE card if we complete all the cards this season.

...you never received badges "just for showing up". "back in the old days" you could earn 60 points toward your badge for just being there (assuming you came to all 6 sessions within a cycle).

Forget Uxie, I'm curious which Snorlax we're giving out.

I'm betting on the "Dominoes" Snorlax!

true you could get pretty darn close though
with bringing a new member- and helping out gym leader points
and getting points for helping a new player if you had that sticker thing.

You sir / child, really need to look at your last 50 posts and ask yourself why everything that you spout is complete and utter negative tripe (edit.....how polite of me ).

Mozz

Considering it's you, this is very polite.

But yeah, I'm aware that POP would not reprint garbage cards that'll anger players :p

See POP6.
