Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Crystal Lake, IL C.C.

Do you 'have' to use the TMS? I may just do my CC by hand to avoid any technical difficulties otherwise.

The TMS is horrible, and every Tournament Organizer around here has had trouble with it.

It takes a while, but it CAN work, if you are willing to double and triple check every entry to make sure that they are placed in the correct age group etc.

BIG TIME props to Dave 2 for running the whole thing, Chicago Pokemon would be dead without you, buddy!!!

soslowpoke also t4'd, altho I have no clue how he managed to do so...

Quin's dad also T4'd, not a surprise to those who know him. Sorry, I don't know your name or your PG handle...

My big props to...

- Jimmy, for finally meeting up with him again
- Dave II, for organizing the tournament)
- Vince, for signing my SS shiftry ( i should have never said to make it out to "e-Bay" )
- PUI, for at least making this free of charge...

Slops go to...

- TMS because, as Vince said at the tourney, people from 15+ shouldn't be paired up with people from10-
- A Pure Dark Tyranitar deck, for it didn't work.
- The 2-1-2 Pidgeot Line, for that didn't work for me (since I dont have rare candies to support it)

TMS, feh.

Check out my detailed report, and comments coming in my "from the player's chair" piece I am doing on pojo.com

Great event, glad to see you all there.

Dave II ran it well, we will definitely be back!

Wish St. Louis could have done better, but, heh, we can't win them all (although did get 2 of the top 4 in 10-)...Wisconsin won?!? GO POOKA... no member of Team Chicago in the finals??? Odd, very odd.

Yeah, I know, no member of Team St. Louis in the top 8...I was sitting 4-2 and got cut right along with Chuck...whom I also lost to...thanks Voltorb...

Felt good, in that my only losses of the day were to Chuck and to Richard L.

Disappointed there were no 10- elimination rounds....due to there being a "clear cut winner"

Note: there was a 15+ clear cut winner too after swiss, Jason K (6-0).

They could easily have done a top 4, as they did in 11-14 (were they ALL 3-3?) but, heh, we were tired and needed to go anyway.

Oh, and you are NOT required to use TMS software for Cities. I use it for NONE of mine.

Bullados, how much have you ACTUALLY used TMS, and analyzed its pairings versus the suggested pairings? For a small event with no age considerations, yeah, it runs fine...get to a larger event, and the flaws begin to REALLY show!

If this would have been done by hand, or backed up by hand, it would have been obvious about the 15+ player playing in 10-.

More to come!

Vince

Yes, TMS is definitely not a very efficient program. Im curious though as to how you run such large events by hand?

Vince: I would have dont top2, in fact after I realised what had happend I was giong to cut to t2 in the 10-, t4 would have been the top 50% and that just didnt seem right. Anyways there is actually a logical (well in my mind logical) reason for why there was not a cut in the 10-. If you want to hear it, feel free to pm me.
But anyways this turned out pretty good, great attendance and lots of original decks made it to the finals. Glad you made it vince, but I didnt get a chance to have you sign anything for ebay...oh well.

O.K. Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I had only gotten 5 hours sleep since I woke up Friday through Sunday night after the tourney. So I went to bed at 10:00 o'clock last night and did not wake up until 11:30 this morning. Then I had something I had to do. Thank you all for your patients both yesterday and this morning. Thank you all very much for all the nice comments about the tourney. The mistake with the TMS happened because I was entering all the players into the pre-registration file and then I was going to add pre-registered players to the main tournament file from that file. Which was supposed to give me a way to double check that I had all the players entered. It would have had I done it properly. I had two new players show up at 1:00 PM when the tourney was supposed to start. Since I had about 5 minutes of work yet to do and I’m trying to grow the popularity of Pokemon in the area, I decided to ask a couple of people to real quick help them with deck lists. I had entered these last two players into the pre-registration file, but forgot to hit the save button. Then I opened up a regular tournament file and through it accessed the saved pre-registration file (that did not yet contain the two new players) and added them to the tourney, not realizing that it was an incomplete file. Luckily it was two players and they were both in the same age group so when it became apparent what I had done I just paired them for the first round. In order to fix this I had to hit the save button on the pre-registration file, call up a new tourney file, add the newly saved pre-registration file, hit the finish button, hit the new round button, Hit the manual pairing button, then completely break down the entire tournament and repair it exactly the same as the first setup with the two new players added at the end. Waiting for the new players to get their deck lists filled out delayed the start 20 minutes. I almost had all the work in redoing the first round (remember the whole time I’m doing it people are reporting the results of their matches and I have to record them on the original tourney set up) when the first round finished. There was a 10-minute delay between the first and second rounds because of this. Most of the delays were by far because of sudden death matches. At the end of two different rounds there were 2 sudden death matches. At the end of two other rounds there were 1 sudden death match each. And there was a sudden death match at the end of one of the final cut rounds.
(Jason, even though you weren’t involved – You resolve effects of attacks first. Always have, always will)

Thank you Richard (Tuxedoblack) for loaning the sweetest little girl a deck and helping her fill out the list. She didn’t win a game all day, but I could tell she had the time of her life. That made the whole thing worth while right there!

Thanks to my children Michael (MetronOob) and Natasha for all the help they gave me all day long.

Thanks to Adam for judging.

Thanks to the store for putting up with us (even though they didn’t have the tables and chairs they said they would and we had to go to my house at the last minute and get what turned out to be just barely enough to get us by).

Final results:
40 players all together
-10 8 players
11-14 6 players
15 + 26 players

-10 (very sorry, I should have done a top cut. I took the advice of my head judge. It sounded wrong at the time but I wasn’t thinking clearly enough. Again very sorry.)
1st Quin
2nd Troy
3rd Adrew
4th Zakary

11-14
1st Jessica
2nd Trevor
3rd Immy
4th Matt

15+
1st Kyle
2nd Jason
3rd Sean
4th Rob (Super job creating an origanal deck and running it very well. I doubt this is the last we'll see of this deck!)

Jessica Lucas!! WOW!!! She must have read my report about her being a "player to watch", and there she goes taking Chicago!!!

If 10- had gone to a top 4, we would not have gotten home until 3am probably. So, in retro, retro spect THANK YOU for not doing the cut!!!

It was nice to go to a good, clean event, where the players were fun to be around, and to sit back and be a player for once.

Look forward to seeing you all at States...and at regionals (at least one)...and then at Nationals...and of course...WORLDS!!!

Are you counting Team Wisconsin out? Hmmm? Don't worry guys, I'll resurrect out name with a Whitewater win on the 23rd.

I hope to second that motion...

With a vengeance Hypnosproject...lol....jk....Hopefully all of team wisconsin will be there to work on taking at least 2 out of 3 in the age groups. This Illinois player take over has to stop, so i think we might need to work on that. Overall, we just need to have fun and enjoy the games.

See ya

P.S. If I end up makin it, I will work on which pokemon(s) will be our team mascots and possible other ideas that I have been doing for a while, I'll let you guys know asap.

I believe Dave III was telling me in Manitowoc how WI has yet to win a WI CC for 15+

Illinois players better come to Whitewater in full force if they want to keep that streak alive. I know I won't get a turnout like you did in CL, I'm hoping I can get 20 anyway.

i think i've had just about enough of CC's to last me until next year, back to random leagues........

yeah it sucks that none of the STL 15+'s did well, but what can i say, i put thought into what i'd play, not just following my gut decision, and that yielded horrible results........

3-3 is horrible for me, but i'm not ashamed to admit that i lost to:
Jason (1 claydol just wasn't gonna cut it)
vince (....... lol)
Richard (blasted elusive fighting nrg, lol)

so the people that i lost to, i give mad props to, for they were the better for the day, but i promise to invoke my revenge when i see fit, lol

good job to those who won/placed

Now we've got wins in 11-14 and 15+ because of what I won last year!

Lets make ourselves a winning streak now!
