Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Here's a fun topic; CURSEgar

Someone sugested that Mr. Mime walls this deck, well what if they do run Regice? That just lets them dump a pair of Karp and hit anything don't it? Least that's what the chick at my league does. >.<

Most Cursegar decks run 2 Mimes to get around Regice, so there'd be no point in using Regi-Move

They could also use Mime Jr. to make Mime an evolved Pokemon and to prevent effects of attacks so it doesn't get messed with otherwise. Still, 2 Mimes are better. Cyclone lol

If anyone cares, I posted a random bad, then updated hopefully decent PLOX list in the deck help section. You're gonna know which one it is by the title. ^_^;

Admittedly I have a CurseGar deck, but the one I played, the guy threw in Luxray GL + Lv. X combo to switch out other players' Spiritomb, play his own trainers, then PokeTurn it away and use his own Gengars to attack my other powered-up Gengars. I thought that was pretty crafty, so now I also have that to contend with. Ugh...

chances are that was the ONLY time he pulled it off cuz that sounds horribly inconsistent to me

Not to advocate one way or another, but while Wager does hurt Gyarados, good lists are prepared for it and have ways to recover. Losing a Wager is bad, but if a Gyarados player draws 6 cards chances are they are going to be fine. If they draw 3 it becomes iffy. I don't feel that the Gyarados/Gengar matchup is 50/50, but I think there are ways to make it in favor of each. People test for a reason. Now that this has been public knowledge any GOOD player is going to be prepared for a Mime wall. Players who aren't as good might get stuck against it, but the better players will not be stuck. I think both are a good choice for States, but I think that don't underestimate the ability of players to work in ways to get around this. I personally feel that LuxChomp beats Gengar. The issue is can the Luxchomp player bring up and KO Mewtwo before the Gengar player can get it out and if he does, does the Luxchomp player have a counter, for it.

I see CurseGar as a good deck. but the thing is it takes 3 turns to set up. when in turn LuxChomp only takes 1-2 turns depending on the situation and can pick off your set up and compleatly stop you. With that being said i think i know what im playing for states. ^_^ DialgaChomp!

3 Turns to set up? You can always use Gengar Stormfront you know.

1-2 turns to set up? In a Spiritomb Lock? I don't think so.

DCE? That, and Look-ing something up means a Spiritomb lock won't hurt as badly as it could. Garchomp or Luxray starts could easily both cause problems for the Pargar player.

Aggron.dec (A mix of the RR and MT) plays with Cursegar and the Gengar SF one sometimes while Café Noir 17 (Dusknoir SF17) counters the heal and hits harder faster and isn't really phazed by Mime or Tomb all that much as it tends to 1HKO them.

Found that even Dusknoir (Spirit Pulse) and Lv X is a hard match up, was 2-1 best of 3 when i played against it. (gengar won) but stil lthink Dusknoir has one of the better chances of beating the Curse.

Shedinja SV is an awesome counter for the deck as long as they don't run Gengar SF.

Lol, yeah that's what I meant. Shedinja can't keep up with SF Gengar's damage output is why its just a soft counter. Some lists play without any sf gengar, though who would play such a list I am unsure

Sounds like it wasluck, a bad build, or played by someone whoe doesn't know Dusknoir from the inside out. My Dusknoir 17 deck has a 65 to 75% chance of beating several of the standard Cursegar builds. It takes a lot of planning, but it's done with ease if you get the hang of it.

Cursegar does seem to have overall favorable matchups with the double mime block against gyrados, and being able to level down sp lvl x 'sand ko with an expert belt. Dialgachomp is still a hard matchup against gengar. The only way I see is to warp point, and noir their built up dialga, but that again can be powersprayed. And against a gyrados with lux, a cursegar player definitely has to watch for time and try to catch up on the prize deficient that a gyrados player will probably take.

if you start with luxray and cyrus, you can set up turn 2. cyrus for random tool, lightning energy, and bebe's. attach energy pass. next turn, attach another energy, use bebe's, get lux lvx.

As much as that is true, you can never know if you'll draw into Cyrus.

Or even start with a Luxray.

As much as it is nice to get both of them, the chances of it happening are rather low and even though it will happen, you can't be certain it will happen every time you play Gengar.

Once you Bebe's you could suddenly have a dead hand too, and breaking the Cyrus chain can be very annoying.

Its no good saying this. You'll start 1st nearly half of your games and not be able to play T/S/S. Then there's the odds of drawing into a Cyrus and starting with a Luxray GL as well as having things like Bebes, Lux LvX not prized. Gotta be around 1/8 odds.
