Just to put everyone as ease and hopefully make it easier for everyone to deal with the school issue. I will be tuitoring all the kids who should be in school on any of the given days they are attending Worlds. Hope this clears up any concerns anyone may of had.
Two hours on Friday starting at 10:00 am has been set a side for any kids, between the ages of 6-17 to get a crash course in any possible daily activities they may have missed. We will be covering everything from Math to World History, Science to Foreign Languages, and even Home Economics and P.E.
Hope this will lesson the worries :D

Are you serious? Jeeze, how did this topic get started? Does anyone realize that nothing HAPPENS on the first day of school? Maybe in a small school, but most of the time it's find your rooms and play those DAG-BLASTED little "Stand up and say your name and one thing about you" games. Ugh. And with the counselers messing with sceduals it takes a week for my school to get cranked up. ANY princaple who has a problem with a child missing the first week of school, a time in which no significant learning really occurs, to attend a once-in-a-lifetime world tournament to play a game of math and critical thinking to have a chance to win college scholarships and meet other school students from other countries in the world isn't much of a child educator, now are they?

Um I think that was Lugias_Realm's Point it's called Sarcasm I know it may be tough for some to understand, but it was ment as a joke.

Clearly you have no experience as a school teacher, those first few days are crucial in every school. I would NEVER advocate ANY parent to allow their kids to miss the first few days through the arguments that you've put out.

World Championships are an exception that I am sure, as stated before, any discerning headteacher/principle could and should allow dispensation for.

Heck, the chidren were excited and surprised in my school when it was read out in assembly and I was presented my National Championship trophy, and I'm one of the TEACHERS!

As a teacher I can honestly say to all involved in the big tournament....the schools will still be there when we get back. Will the kids miss important information....sure....but they will easily make it up. These kids are super smart and catch on quick. It really doesnt matter what time of the school year it is for them.

I would be interested to track the average IQ of the kids still in school who qualify for this tournament. I bet the scores would be very high.

Heather and Dale will be missing a full week of school, since we are staying in Orlando after Worlds to visit with Tigger and Mickey. They actually start Aug 5th here. Visted with Heather's counselor today and she said we could actually have it as an excused absence once we talk with the principle and explain our reasons of her missing school. Hopefully they'll still be on review the first few weeks and the principle understands the benefits of playing Pokemon and how special it is to visit Tigger & Mickey.

I know everyone is gunna be angry about the dates nomatter what but they could have at LEAST not scheduled it durring a certain once-a-year convention that is a nice place to be when you play more than 4 different TCG's... (hint hint GenCon)

Austin will be missing a full week as well (plus one day, think) for that same reason.... I haven't even talked to the school yet. I'm in limbo as to what to tell them.

Just out of curiosity, what would you tell the principal about the benefits of playing Pokemon? It's bad enough that people think Pokemon is soooo bad, but now, to have parents pull their kids from school for a week.... well, that would just be something else.

LOL. Yeah, only they didn't teach that when I was in school. :)

I am still trying to figure some of these things out. One in particular I see often that still drives me nuts if "pwnge" or "pwn" or something like that. I guess it's something like your "pwnly".

You want to fill me in on this? :)

Well, I kinda figured that's what it meant... You know, just using context clues within the sentences and stuff....

I guess I'm just a little clueless about all this TCG lingo around here... Yeah, I've gotta get clued in!

Anyway, we'll see you guys there. Have a safe drive.

I know alot of you are very reluctant to take your kids out of school for X amount of days... and as I'm writing this reply I'm finishing up my guide to Orlando and the Worlds event. I know a lot about Orlando and Walt Disney World off the top of my head: it's all not just roller coasters and overpriced fast food.

Disney's Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Sea World, and Busch Gardens (Tampa) are amazing educational theme parks. I know this, I've gone on one too many field trips back in the day. Kids remember what they see in a single day in any of these parks and can learn as much, if not more, than in the classroom.

-Libery Square Riverboat
-Carousel of Progress

Ask the teachers for advanced lessons or to create a special report or project related to the attractions. That being said, there's much more to Florida than a few theme parks. Explore the vast amount of state parks, springs, and beaches. Go visit Silver Springs or the Kennedy Space Center. There's plenty of education and fun family outings here in the sunshine state.

And if you manage to get a car, take SR 50 from Orlando to Titusville/Cape Canaveral and you're at Kennedy Space Center like Phil said. Then if you take I-95 from there and go up to Daytona Beach you have one of the USA's finest beaches, which is in my mind, very educational.

Educational is one way to put it... Just stay away from the guys in the Speedos and one beach in Titusville. The method of teaching at that beach is very blunt and revealing. Used to be my grandparent's favorite till the clothing rules we're relaxed. They didn't get the memo apparently and took my sister and myself there when I was little. :X

I didn't have time to read all this, plus I'm only 13, but I think that as long as the child is not flunking in school, and will make up their homework and whatnot, it should be fine to miss a week for an event that the child loves, worked hard for, and feels they have a good chance to compete in. We can't forget that at that age, school and health are MOST important, but the point of life is gone if there's no fun in it. And I personally don't think school is that fun, but that's me. :p

In my case it's only a matter of a Law, and Laws are made with a purpose.
Laws are different in each country and my country is a bit over regulated and that has some pro's and contra's

I'm not complaining, because I made my decission to go, whatever it takes.
The only thing I was worried about is that getting that fine also would give me a criminal record.
Paying a fine I don't mind as long as my kids can enjoy Worlds, but a criminal record NO.

I worked on something to avoid the fine (+ record) without lying, breaking laws or make anyone else lying for me.
I did something laywers do all day, find a hole in the law. And I found one, so I'm going to use it.
Took me a while of research but I can say now my kids are free to attend to worlds and it's all legal.
When I presented my plan to the principal he laughed and said I missed my real destiny/profession.
He was impressed about the creative thinking and told me to go for it and bring back a Worldchampion.
I doubt we will bring back a WC, but we will have a great time, without me bothering about fines/lawcases.

I don't like it that they are missing the first days of the new schoolyear, not because the educational part, they will head up with that the week after.
I think most kids playing Pokemon at a higher level, are doing fine at school.
When I look at our players I see a lot of them passed a class (going from 3th to 5th class) and are good students. Most of them do math lessons with 2 fingers in their nose (free translation of a saying overhere)

The social part of the first week is important if you have to start in a class with all new classmates.
My kids are all schooltime, until highschool, with the same kids/group they have in their class for years so no social problem, their friends will be waiting for them to hear what happened overseas.
A problem can be for kids starting at a new school with all new classmates.
In the first week kids are finding each other and sometimes you can fall outside all established groups when you bump in later.
But on the other side, they did keep on playing Pokemon while (at least overhere ) everyone is saying it's out or dead. And that "attitude" will help then to find their place in class.

I will try to explain, but I don't know if I can explain correct in English, because it's about the finesses in the exact words in that particular law. But you will laugh also when you read my solution.

Our law says that kids have to be registered at a school from the age of 4 untill the age of 18, without interruption.
they have to follow all the lessons when the school were they are registered at any moment that school has lessons.
So if that school has an official Holiday, your kids are free, when there are lesson they must attend. (unless they are sick)

Years ago they decided overhere to spread the vacation periods over the country divided in North, Middle and South.
Each divisions summerholiday start and ends at a different date.
Are you already feeling which way this is going?

We are in division North and our summervacation started july 13 and end aug 20.
But division Souths vacation started today july 26 and is ending sep 6th.
So 23and 24 aug kids registered at schools in North have to go to school because those schools have lessons, but kids registered in South still have vacation at that time.
All I did was making an administration move.
I registered my kids today at a school in the south division, and i will transfer them back when we return from Orlando.

I needed 2 Principals to get this done, because without their autoghraph there is no transfer.(and much more paperwork)
I used my Pokemonfriends in South to find a principal overthere who was willing to register my kids and unregister them at the date I wished.
The Principal of their current school was complete behind this and was full admiration that I even figured this out so 100% support.

Meaby when you read this you say, easy go, but if you have to figure this out by yourself it's something else than reading a solution. All the persons involved told me they never ever should think about this in a lifetime. I only call it creative thinking.
Afterwards I can only say it's nothing more than a administration move, but to come at this idea took me a lot of reading . And I don't tell anyone here, because it's not something you should use in general.
But the ones who know about it, laughed their eyes untill tears came out.

For me I will be there without stress for getting a gouvernment administrator, laywer, judge on my tails when I return.
