Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Luxray Garchomp

xcfrisco - I said that it would cost $300 for that list with a 3-1 Luxray line, because I feel that for most people it's not worth the extra $75 to run 2-2. That would bring it just over the $300 mark. Thats a really great list however, your prices are accurate and it's a great resource for people wanting to build this deck. Thanks for taking the time to find those out :thumb:

I think if you're just getting into the game now, or around LA-RR, it's pretty ridiculous to have to pay $300-400 for this deck. I'm lucky that I got my Luxray from when it was worth alot less, and I'm sure other people did too but I'm not sure if the prices will decrease. I an see some costy cards such as Call Energy and Azelfs maybe being given out at leagues next season but it's Uxie Lv X and Luxray GL Lv X which make this deck expensive and I can't see those prices dropping.

Edit - does anyone know how to get rid of the question mark thing at the top?

FYI we get destroyed by steelix, but im not sure how big healix would be at BRs and CCs, but it did well at worlds, so you never know

yeah if anyone else wants to argue about the price of the deck, get more in-depth, i made a separate thread in the price guide forum.

Blaziken FB is a nice tech against Steelix, it makes the matchup from auto-loss to bearable :p

but I had to drop it over my Drifblim, which was my Mewtwo counter D:

I think Drifblim and Dialga G Lv X are both essential in Luxchomps, it's just a shame both can't be fitted in. Drifblims great against Steelix or Dialgachomp and Dialga G Lv X covers Vileplume and other annoying bodies.

against Vileplume you still have the Luring flame/bright look + zen blade option, but I haven't tested Blaze FB against vileplume+bellossom

Although after (one game of xD) testing, Blaziken FB threatening to kill a steelix is really cool, provided that you did not let them get 4 SP metals + expert belt on one

this is the list I'm using atm

pokes: 19

2-2 luxray gl
2-2 garchomp c
1 ambipom
1 crobat g
1 zong g
1 lucario gl
2-1 uxie
1 azelf
1 unown q
1-1 dribflim UD/blaziken fb

trainers: 29

3 collector
2 bebes
2 pont
1 cynthias
1 aarons
4 cyrus
4 gain
3 spray
4 turn
3 sp radar
1 lux ball
1 communication

energy: 12

4 call
4 DCE
2 lightning
2 psychic/fire

i recently dropped a judge for a 3rd collector, but I still hate drawing into 2 collector at the same time with a call energy -_-

I want to run the deck, but unfortunately for a 14 year old, at Luxray Lv. X's 85 dollars a piece on eBay, it's not going to happen anytime soon.

Chris might have 1 i can borrow. Maybe haha. To contribute to something thi deck should easily beat plume decks. Brigt look and zen blade or just bright look and trap I up there. 2 retreat and it's body stopping warps and stuff means u can snipe around it. Or for fun bright look and then move off energy each turn with ambipom. Ad long as they don't run warp or DVD it's stuck up there for a long time

As long as they don't run warp or DVD it's stuck up there for a long time

I'm under the impression that any deck that plays vileplume or spiritomb should run AT LEAST two warp energies so they don't receive their autolosses to common techs, popular plays, etc.

I wonder how many tech Dragonite Fb's we'll see at Fall BR's in Luxchomp. Man, and to think when i got my dragonites as league promos i thought i was getting hot garbage

Why do you need Call Energy and Chatot in an SP deck? I've never used them and the deck sets up fine.

What about Drifblim UD as an anti-Mewtwo (and anti-Machamp) card?

donphans a great match up in luxchomp favor u bring up crobat g with psy and e-gain double poison donphan on his turn he cant ko ur crobat because of resist so next turn u dragon rush his donphan for the ko and just keep going like that

Cause thats an absolutly new Strategy no one has ever thought of and no one running donphan with half a brain knows how to play around this?

Vietgamer - Have you tested anymore with it since? It looks a solid list if you have alot of Steelix in your metagame.

I'd be really suprised if top tier Vileplume decks aren't running Warp Energy. That's one of the best routes to go down when playing Luxchomp and you can't get Uxie Lv X out under trainer lock, Azelf/psychic is very easy to hit.

I like Dragonite FB to an extent, but it seems like a Garchomp C could do the same thing with a Crobat G drop. I think it will see play though, I wouldn't be suprised if Luxchomps tech that as well as Ampibom G to win the mirror.

Call Energy is an amazing card in any deck which uses colourless energy requirements. It can set up 3 SPs for Power Spray, get any Pokemon ready to be Level'd Up Turn 2, prevent donking, make going first a good thing and so much more. I know the World Champion didn't run them, but it's a still an amazing card in Luxchomp and I'd recommend them to anyone.

The Chatot is because this article was aimed at players new to the concept of Luxchomp/SP. I wanted a basic and highly consistent list they could take and then learn to play the deck before tweaking it to their playstyle and metagame. It's actually a pretty good consistency booster, since it can't be sprayed and can also be searched out with Call Energy. Alot of high tier lists do run this card.

Drifblims a great card to play, and pretty easy to buy/trade as well. It definately improves certain matchups against tanking decks as well like Donphan, Regigigas and Dialgachomp, as well countering Mewtwo and Machamp. It's well worth trying.

Thats a good way to go against Donphan Prime, but a good opponent will realise what you're doing and probably have some trick up their sleeve. Some builds are running Pokehealers, dropping one to get rid of Poison Damage. If Donphan can get to the 3 Energy + Belt stage then Luxchomp is in big trouble.

ok and tell me how are u to play around it u have a 4 retreat and u cant count on having a switch/warp point ive played this match up so many time ive lost once from a donk, crobat and toxicroak win u this match up for u

blazetj - Donphan is a hard matchup I will have to admit, it's probably around 30-70 to 40-60 their favor, but it is still winnable. Since I play Blaziken over Drifblim the matchup is a lot worse for me because I do not have any psychic energy to Toxic Fang with D: and type more coherently please? :)

nnaann - When I played against my friend's Steelix deck, the Blaziken just tore through Steelixes too fast, with 2 fire energy and 1 Aaron's in my list, I was able to take down Steelixes quickly and efficiently. I do have to admit I have not tested against other matchups though.

Did anyone test Drifblim UD and can tell us how it does against other matchups, in particularly Machamp, Donphan, Tyranitar, Steelix, and other SPs?

Drifblim is fantastic. The two energy attack is a godsend to getting ohko's on enemy nidoqueens, machamps, uxie lv X's and mewtwo's in the blink of an eye. Its also awesome and lol when you shuffle back tyranitar's and steelixes that may be belted and with multiple energies on them. I've done this multiple times against my bro, its an awesome tech imo, just hard to fit in >.<

xcfrisco, would you say that Driblim UD is better/more versatile/playable than Blaizken FB then?

If so, would ir warrant playing a Palmer's over Aaron's or playing one of each?

Lets analyze the Pro and cons of each

1-1 Blaze line

Pro's:
-Is SP
-Does 80 for potentially one energy
-Decent starter in Blaze FB + Luring flame
-Hits Steelix, DGX, Various Grass pokes not name vileplume for weakness
-Pseudo counter to Kingdra Prime

Cons
-1 Retreat Cost
-Net 70 hp after primary attack
-Makes mewtwo/machamp matchup worse
-Needs non-standard (for SP) fire energy

1-1 Drifblim line:

Pros:
-Improves mewtwo/machamp matchup
-Basic and Evo have free retreat (must use shiny drifloon)
-Psychic energy more readily splashable in SP
-Hits Nidoqueen, Uxie X, Machamp, Mewtwo X, Promcroak, Vileplume for OHKOs
-Shuffles back loaded up Steelix, Tyranitar, DGX, Donphan for 3 colorless
-Resists Colorless (great at absorbing dragon rush when active)

Cons
-Is not SP (must devote slots to Bebe's Search and Poke Comms)
-Highly susceptible to Sableye/Donk with low hp basic
-Net 70 hp after using primary attack

IMO, Driflblim does everything Blaziken is commonly used to counter and then some at the expense of not being SP and introducing a donkable basic. Again, like all matters in pokemon, I think it simply comes down to playstyle. I like countering everything under the sun which is why i feel Drifblim is the superior tech. This is also coming from someone who played BlazeRay for all of fall last season ;)
