Please end this useless argument and get on topic. This is not about what is legal or not, it is about shiny pokemon.
What's a chain? Sventeen.
Off topic: LMGTFY FTW.Diamond/Pearl/Platinum when using a PokeRadar. Professor Oak will tell you all about it when you get the PokeRadar. You have a better chance of finding a shiny by using the PokeRadar.
Google searches are your friend :thumb:
I started out bad as well, but now I'm a lot better. You just need patience and eventually you will be able to chain quite a lot successfully.I can't chain to get a shiny to save my life. I just don't get it. My highest chain is 50. What is the average needed before shiny Pokemon start appearing?
Well, I'm not bad at it. I can chain pretty good, actually. It's just I get up to like 40-50 and then the chain breaks before I see a shiny.I started out bad as well, but now I'm a lot better. You just need patience and eventually you will be able to chain quite a lot successfully.
There is no need to chain anymore Pokémon after 40 have been chained. When you use the Poké-Radar with 40+ chain, the chances are always 1/200 of a shiny patch appearing. You can't lower that chance. When your chain reaches 40, keep reusing your PR until you get a shiny patch.

What do you mean by shiny patch? I always go after the patches that sparkle. Are there 2 different kinds of sparkling patches?
Ah ha! So they do look different. I don't remember reading anything about two different sparkling patterns in the guide I read. No wonder I could never get it to work...The shiny patch will sparkle GOLD if it is shiny. Watch this video VERY closely and you will see the difference the patch makes:
