You should really consider playing at Nats. IMO there is no better way to play against different decks to really prepare yourself for Worlds.
Honestly my good man.... With a rating that high... How could you NOT walk in the door and expect to do well enough to keep your spot? Last time I checked, even Joe Average like myself, can grind into worlds if I wanted to try.... If you're that good then you could probably get in there that way. But the FUN, the COMPETITION, the chance to see what STL has in store for you????
Gotta look in the mirror on that one bro.....
You can't drop 40 points at Nats this year. 32 is the max, and it's virtually impossible to drop 32 points.
Also, US Nats is the one event that the US "Great One" has never captured. (By Great One here I mean Ness, not Curran H., who is also a "Great One" in the Pokemon World)

I would hate to lose an invite to World's by not playing. Be in control of your own destiny. Everyone who says sit on your ranking are not the one's risking a spot. Think about how many people will pass you in the rankings after they win only 1 game at Nats.
I estimate at least 20 people who will jump your rankings after the 1st 2 rounds should they go 2-0. Where will you be if they decide to sit tight and drop.
As of today, without all the Battleroads being reported, #61 is at 1800. Lots of players sitting right behind you hoping you say home and slip out of the running.
Good Luck
Nice thoughts mate but not true. Look at last years rankings from before Nationals and after and you'll see not a lot of that happened.
BTW, does everybody have to drop!!! Boggles my Brit mind! Just as bad to drop to protect your ratings than to not play at all.
I think you SEVERLY underestimate how hard the grinder is.

No... I didn't meant it that way at all.... All I meant was he would have at least had a shot if he missed it due to his rankings.... And if this guys ranking is that high, then he's got the talent to give it a run. The "Joe Average" comment was simply, anybody could at least PLAY for a shot at Worlds if they wanted.
Our deal this year is going to be -- play until you lose and then stop, depending on how far into things he is...have fun either way!
