A few things.
I've read my share of forums. You see the same stuff usually. Rude people. Trolls. People that just want to start a fight. This has nothing to do with the Pokegym, it just has to do with the internet and people that surf the internet.
The Pokegym is so lucky to get reponses from TPCi staff, and to have a hand in rulings for the Compendium among other things. The Pokegym is seen as an unofficial official forum for Pokemon. Because of this, the Pokegym has to keep topics to a young age so that the young kids that do visit the forum (possibly with their parent) are not surrounded by adult topics. That is why some topics that are relatively fine on some forums aren't as welcome on this forum. If this was a Magic: The Gathering forum, there would be more slack on older oriented threads.
I'm sure people find posts that are rude, and don't understand why mods are deleting them. The mods should be doing their jobs, but we can't be online 24/7 because we have real lives too. Members can help mods so much if they would report posts that they feel break the rules. When a member reports a post, all the mods that are over that area of the forum get an email telling them about it. Reporting posts is the most useful tool on the forum that members can use to communicate with the mods. When in doubt, report. If we feel that the post doesn't deserve an infraction/deletion, you won't get in trouble. You have nothing to lose, really.
Now, I've never understood the reasoning behind the RTD on a theme-centric forum. Some of the topics we see in here could be in another area of the forum (or a potential new area of the forum) like playmats could be in an art section of the forum. But being that this is a Pokemon forum, I've never understood why we are allowed to discuss topics like the election, whats in the news, who just died, etc, etc.
I guess people should be happy there is a section there at all for random topics. Without RTD, there would be no thousand-page game threads, or places to post threads like these.
Oh well, I'm rambling on.
