Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

What's your opinion on the TFG?

Doesn't some of the trainers in the game have a rarity? I know theres 7, but we've only pulled switch/plus power/potion (i think). It definately seems interesting and, although it requires some luck, I think of this as a chess game with both players having equal chances from the start and the best strategist wins (usuallY).

I think it could be a big fad in the U.S but then die a few months after. Seems like after a week or two you'd get fed up.

One of the reasons why NASCAR RaceDay got cancelled after 2 sets. Great Idea but it was like a play it for a week and the game gets dull.

It will work if the figures are made with different pokes. Having the same pokes made over and over w/o spme being made will make the game suffer. Once you get a good solid mixture out there, then sprinkle in some repeats w/ different attacks and poses.

While luck is a large factor, skill plays a SURPRISINGLY big part as well in the 6 on 6 game.
The TCG has you factor in luck, skill, deck building skill, deck competence, and several other things, but the TFG is almost all Luck and Skill, so a LOT of both is needed. Sure, there is SOME team building involved (For example, you aren't going to win with a team of 6 weedles), but almost any reasonable-looking team can win.

we don't know that yet, or do we. It's only been one set. I believe they will release other sets unless I've missed the memo that they aren't. Future sets will probably have combos with this set just like the TCG. I'm definitely going to try it out, and expect more players to try it out if the prizes are have way decent. A free trip to Hawaii, anyway??? Yes, please.

I think it's got potential, so long as it doesn't go the way of YGO's Dungeon Dice Monsters. That died after what...2 months?

More pokes would be good too, rather than making the same one 8 times over in a single sitting. And I like the idea of a changing field or something like that that could affect the game.

I was one of the volunteers running the demos at Comic-Con. I have to say that this game has some serious potential. We were busy teaching people of all ages for the whole convention. We had kids and teenagers coming back to play again and bringing their friends to learn. If this is any indication of the public's interest in the game, it should be a great success.

The figures look awesome, with great paint and sculpts, especially for a price of a little over $3 dollars each. With that price, it may not be possible to accrue a collection of figures as large as one's TCG collection, but it should be easy enough for most people to at least get a basic team of three figures.

With regards to the issues of luck and skill involved in the game, I have to say that the game seems nicely balanced. Unlike the TCG, where you never know what card your opponent could play next, in the TFG, you always know what your opponent can do; all their attacks and Trainer cards are visible the whole game. This allows for prediction and planning (ie skill), similar to chess. The aspect of luck shakes things up, but can be allowed for when one is determining possible actions. Simply spinning without regard to the possible outcomes will not work very well.

As of now, the TFG is rather basic, but just look at the TCG. Base set was rather simple, but complexity and depth have been added over the years with the addition of two types, different types of Trainers (Supporters, Stadiums, Tools, etc.), Pokemon EX, Lvl X, and Delta. Introfucing new playmats, status conditions, attacks, Trainer cards, and weakness/resistance will help to improve the TFG with time. It seems that there is already work being done in this direction. The figures already have types (ready for weakness and resistance) and the Misty and Brock trainer figures have blue bars (which the Pokemon USA staff told me would be used for Trainer specific Trainer cards, a la Brock's Training Method and the like from the Gym TCG expansions).

I encourage everyone interested in the game to find some friends and pickup a couple starter sets when the TFG comes out. Give it a try and see if you like it. I'm already hooked and can't wait until it comes out.

i am insulted and refuse to play until POP releases an official appology
j/k, i like this game alot

I think I'll probably work on this for my league players. I have many people aged 8 and under who would just love it. Hey for that matter, I like the collecting of the figures! I'm going to add them to my needs list right now!

I haven't had the chance to play it, but I've seen pictures of the figures on this and other sites and they look pretty sweet. I just might give it a spin (no pun intended).

Yes I will be buying them just for the collectibility. As long as the art stays high quality as it is I will be buying as long as they are produced. As for playing I will play it too.

Personally, that's where I'm placing my bets - IMO its popularity will wane rapidly but only time will tell.

i like it but.. I HAVE NO ONE TO PLAY IT WITH!!!

i think i might be popular, but a little less popular that TCG. It's ridiculously expensive for a starter pack and the boosters. BTW it only involves 6 figures, how much strategy can u have? The trainers ***** too, it's no where near tcg base set.

Your strategy comes from how you move your figures around the field, and which specific figures you select. It's a very different kind of strategy from a card game. It's more the kind of strategy you see in a game of chess, or checkers/draughts, or another game along those lines.
