It's obviously from a leak in Nintendo's company. Japan's #1 business newspaper doesn't just report rumors.
Kotaku.com (there's links on the site that aren't pg, so I'm not linking you guys), announced a new piece of hardware today. You'd have to go there yourself if you want to find out what it is =D

Both branches of Nintendo responded to this with a "We didn't tell them anything about new hardware."
This is a speculative rumor with no sources. All of the articles that talk about this point back to Nikkei, and Nikkei has no sources. Without a source of information this is nothing more than an unsubstantiated rumor, and until Nintendo releases some information there is no reason for anyone to believe this.
A pedometer...
Maybe you just get a bunch of those and put them on your hands/elbows/legs/knees and such so that the Wii knows your entire body position.
