Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

World Championships COMPLETED RESULTS

I was rooting for Ross. Hoping that one of the very few people with a creative deck could win it all.

Shocked to see Magneboar do so good

Think Magneboar did well is the fact that worlds was only 7 rounds plus top 16. Magneboar did better at Canada and Mexico Nats just because they were smaller.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

David won! Awesome!

Holy crud, he actually goes to my league too haha.

I'm a little disapointed in the lack of creativity shown by most of the competitors who made top cut this year, other than the losng finalist. It seems many of the competitors colabarate together and end up using near identical lists. I think Japan was always going to be at a heavy disadvanage this year due to the tsunami and format without catcher and max potion.

Congrats to both Ross and David for doing so well! Good job for bringing the top 2 trophies back to Washington. Hope to see ya both soon!

fro mthe pokemon site interview:

What kind of deck are you playing?
My deck is a fairly straightforward Reshiram deck. I also use Magnezone and Rayquaza & Deoxys LEGEND. It’s designed to do a lot of damage. I avoid coin flips as much as I can, and there’s not much trickery. I don’t even play Pokémon Reversals, unlike pretty much everyone else.

so is it reshiboar with a magnezone /RDL tech and not magneboar?

Probably runs 2-1-2 Magnezone and Emboar, 1-1 RDL, 2 cleffa/1 tyrogue, and 3 Reshiram. That's how I'd do it at least (although I might prefer a manaphy in place of a cleffa).

So Ross Cawthorn had an insane rogue deck! Anyone know what it consisted of? And how it was played? I know Blissey Prime and the 2 dragons but thats it

That looks like such a random deck! How did it play so well when there are 2 stage 2's and you cant play trainers.

Wow Congrats Ross! and David! MAGNEBOAR!

Maybe he just made a great meta call being that Typhlosion was the MPD, and it has an easy matchup vs that. With a strong set Magnezone can beat anything.

Reshiboar with Magnezone won Worlds, not Magneboar with Reshiram - not that it´s any news to anyone because of the Worlds site.

That´s probably how the victory came -Reshiram hits for 120, Magnezone for anything needed beyond that, and RDL finishes off quite effectively
He didn´t run a single Reversal, because it had to be focused on damage - and sure enough, that is powerful.

Reshiram/Typhlosion was run a lot, and yet the Emboar variant with Magnezone took it all - both have their advantages and disadvantages - one major disadvantage for Typhlosion variants was Ross Cawthon - that SEL is completely insane against those decks.
I hoped he would win, but getting second at Worlds with a deck nobody has ever seen before (even if someone had built it, they sure didn´t run Tropical Beach) is amazing. I know I wouldn´t have been able to think of that deck in a thousand years, literally even.

Looking forward for the decks to be printed, trying them out could be fun.
