see you in hawaii
- i´m the best in austria and two of us are going to fly to hawaii 2010
- so see you there and prepare for a intense battle against me.

^So I guess you're Brutalanda-df? lol.

I have to win a paid trip, otherwise I doubt I'll make it to Hawaii. Tho I wanna prebook my game, if possible.

Back to the subject of the WR itself.... My friend, I'm going to be honest with you. Even 70 straight hours of being awake and playing is going to be a tough task so make sure you take precautions. I do income taxes and have slaved for 40-50 hours straight with no sleep and I personally know what it does to the mind, eyes, and how long it takes to recover from. I don't know your age, etc.... But have you ever stayed up for 3 days straight? I'm sure other than a Mountain Dew buzz, they're not going to allow the record if your using something else to stay awake. And think of the meat between your thumb and your pointer finger... for me, they hurt from 3 days of Nats play and testing.... you're going to be raw!

I applaude you on this quest my friend... and would LOVE to see someone from the Gym take it down... Give it a 30 hour straight test right now and see what you think.....

I SAY GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the pointers / words of encouragement!

I've pulled multiple one nighters, and have accidently pulled two days in arow...never had any reason to do more then that. Then again last time when I was at worlds I slept 4 hours in hawaii and slept 22 hours when I got home the next ...two days.

I've done school projects on sleeping patterns and know enough about sleep depreviation that you can fool yourself into thinking your asleep while still being awake. Everyhing you do seems more dream like even if you are still awake. The problem with doing it is because you are in a dream like state you don't have a solid grasp on reality, and you can be easiliy manipulated (its a form of self hypnosis)

But yes to answer your questions I have been up for 24-48 hours at a time, and am sure with enough energy drinks and motivation I could do 100. Not easily...but it can be done.

Keep in mind, the current record was achieved by 4 people, only two of the 4 had to be awake in order to keep the record going. So if by the time world's comes around and I don't think im able to do it by myself, I'll get a few friends to join the record with me!

haha I could do 100, i could also do 131. I am in control, don't worry about it jeff ;-)

thanks for the reminder tho

I'm down for this, and I'll see what I can donate (have a bunch of League Leader friends). This is a great idea, sdrawkcab!

The cost from NY to Hawaii is incredible, and I don't think I could afford a round trip even if I started saving now. However, good luck with that, man. I've done three-day marathons at conventions, and lemme tell you, Rockstar energy drinks will keep you awake. Though Ehler does have a point; you may need to check what you may ingest and imbibe to aid in the staying awake field.

Oh, and having a video camera or even something to twitter on hourly with records, who beat you, who played what, etc. etc. may help you stay awake.

A twitter account is a GREAT idea. You could post updates (with a world's hashtag, and a hashtag for this goal, of course), about who you just played, who you beat, how you feel, how many hours in you are, etc.

Fantastic idea, Aniodia.

Thanks still everyone for the continue support.

I think it would be best if I go for 151 hours against 151 players. Everyone gets 1 hour ovbiously.

From this point on this is invitational only. If I do not invite you to play, you may request an invitation by sending me a 6 word essay on why you want to play me.

Everyone who has posted a least once in this thread prior to post 93 will recieve an invite.

I will be playing both modified and unlimited simultaniously. Anyone who beats me (overall after the hour) wins my deck (no questions asked). Take a look at my buyers threads for cards that I will need for this marathon.

I will (attempt) to record every match with two video cameras. Camera one is the classic overhead view, camera two is my "pocket cam" so after the game players can watch how I played each match (and catch EVERYONE one of my misplays)

Any other cool ideas?

You're raising a lot of money here.
I would reconsider your usage of funds.
How much will that impact the game? Would donating theme decks to an after school activity REALLY help the game? The only people who would stay after for a Pokemon club in High School are the ones who already play. School kids generally aren't open to Pokemon if they don't already play a TCG, which is actually very few these days.

Also look at the realistic levels of your goal. Have you ever stayed up for 5 straight days? Also consider the nerdiness level and staying-up-until-unspeakable-hours capabilities of a LOTR player to a Pokemon player.

I really like your idea, and I am really digging the "151 vs me" idea! Sounds very fitting for the Pokemon community =D
Altho, I will suggest an interesting idea... You should gather some of your friends to help you stay away/substitute you for bathroom breaks, being able to make sure you are ok and get you food... Kinda like a care team for the main racer, you know? Hmmm.... SDRAWKCAB MEAT? Maybe? =D

Whatever ends happening, I know one thing... Its really gonna be a blast and I hope to at least be able to watch some of this action! [I still need to book my stay at Hawaii... =D]

151 is a very auspicious number, and would be a worthy goal for a pokemon themed event.

However, I had a friend freshman year (2 years ago) who wanted to stay up for 120 hours (one week). He made, from what I heard, a bit over 100 on energy drinks and stuff, before he started hallucinating that the walls (in the bathroom stall he was using at the time) were disappearing. (and no, I don't know how that is possible) I just want to let you know what you're getting yourself into... And if you still want to go for it, more power to you.

yoyo: Those are just some of the ideas...if anything most will go directly to pokemon usa / whoever can use it best.

jai: im sure anyone there will be more then willing to help!

Sand: I know enough about sleep deprivation and its effects to know how to manage it. The record allows 5 min breaks every hour. every 12 hours I get an hour break...Thats roughly the same amount of time you get when you're working (at least in canada)

I have worked the graveyard shift in a warehouse fresh out of highschool and I would sleep during my lunch breaks. In highschool I did a research paper on sleep...mythbusters have done studies on cabin fever...not only that but once you throw in any movie on the subject matter (Pi, the Machinist...pinocio?) You learn how to manage. (enough to play pokemon)

I have already done a few trial runs anywhere between 24 and 50 hours. The longer I stay awake is perportionate to the amount of time I spend sleeping afterwards. After my 40 hour session I slept for 14 hours...its really just a matter of focus and motivation.

Now inviting:
Any memebers of:
Team M
Team Hatter
Team ARL
Team Mike

That is all

Ok, I have a great idea for what you could use the donation money for! Paying me to play you so that you complete your "playing vs every Nationl Champion" goal :D

Ok, that was a joke, but I'm going to warn you in advance that this is going to be extremely difficult. At Origins 2006, I stayed up for 72 hours straight. I went to bed immediately after the Professor Cup so I could get a bit of sleep before Nationals the next day. I started the Prof Cup 4-0, and finished X-2, but I was exhausted. Between rounds I had my face in my arms, and a friend came by " its not a big deal, its just one loss. " No, more like I'd been up for over 70 hours :p I was slamming down energy drinks, trying to stay as physically and mentally active as possible. I could have likely gone another 10-12 hours if I wanted, but I wanted to be able to be fresh for Nats. 151 hours without sleep would be near impossible. Playing Pokemon won't make it any easier or harder to stay up, but its going to be very, very difficult. If you can use that 1 hour every 12 hours for sleep, that may be your only real chance. If thats the case, what you need to do is prepare your body for an hour based sleeping schedule. There are routines online where you get your body used to quick spurts of sleep like that. Perhaps even use those 5 minute breaks for the same thing. You WILL NOT be able to do this unless you do legitimate physical training so that your body can handle the stress put on it by such sleep deprivation. You can't go in cold and expect to pull it off. Just a warning in advance.

And in regards to what Stephen said earlier...4-5 hours of testing at a time? 4 days this week I've put in 11 hour sessions testing for Magic States. I know of a number of Pros who clock in 17-18 hours a day, for a full week, prior to big events. So yes, 130 hours would very likely have to be consecutive.
