Well I do hope the OP program 2006-2007 included trips/invites for worlds 2007 is announced soon.

If you know the tournament shedule/structure for the full season it's much easier to plan anything.

i am guessing trips awarded to regional champs
ie:
european
north american
asian
etc etc

regions based on equality of player base
so still more trips to us players.

it would be silly to send the same number of players fro a small country with a plyer base smaller than New Jersey as the US (every country only send one player)

Pardon?

The fan base are ALL WORLDWIDE players.
Every player outside Japan, pays for the OP funds, and therefor it should be split up more equal.

Everybody is part of the same program so don't make statements like this, you show you don't know what you are talking about.

My prediction.

Less invites+trip inside the USA.
More invites+trip (payed by POP/PUI) spreaded around the World.

At least if we are finally heading a real Worlds tournament.
Many international players payed for their own trip, because it's the only way to get to Worlds.
If you talk about dedication and fans, you should definitly look outside your borders.

So are you trying to say that a small country with a small fan base such as the Netherlands is as influential as the USA to PUI because they're "more dedicated"? If PUI wants to make money (which they do since they are a business) they'll hold Worlds in either the USA or Japan, not anywhere else.

Please, don't start a spitting contest.

The point is, while there may be fewer trips, the trips would be worth more.
I imagine that an event in Hawaii like the old Tropical Mega Battles would be a phenomenal event.

The other side is that I would guess PUI would make Nationals and the Regionals bigger and more special to compensate. No inside info, just my guess.

For the few who get to go, I'm sure it would.

This is worlds people. The biggest tournament in the world. Why does everyone think that the US needs to be able to send 180+ players to worlds every year? This year, the US got to send around 180 players to worlds, and still people complained. Japan, the location of the people that MAKE THE GAME only gets to send 30 people. The most any other country gets to send (IN THE WORLD) is 12. Yet, this 180-ish isn't enough for the USA Players. Seriously, be happy for what you have. Even if next year they remove 30 invites, there are still 150 invites invites to give out, more than 10 times what the rest of the world (minus japan) gets.

Dang.

Island geography notes ...

Of course it does. We can't drive to Hawaii.

Oddly enough, even though I live in Hawaii, I can't drive to Worlds either ... you see, I live on Oahu (one island) while Worlds will be on "the Big Island," Hawaii (another island).

But we'll be there, of course, even if we have to paddle over on our boogie boards (about 208 nautical miles, BTW)!

And I like to add this:

Most countries indeed do get 12 invites, BUT ONLY 3 OF THEM COME WITH A PAYED TRIP.

So 1 player in each agegroup with payed trip against 8? (japan) or over 50 (USA).
And while each USA player has more than 1 opportunity to win a trip, NOBODY else normally had that change.

Old discussion.

How many years has Worlds been in the States?

Can we go somewhere else for a change?

Holland? Germany? Italy, Sweden?

...Canada, even?

Worlds isn't going to be outside the US. If it would be, it'd probably be in Japan first.

If they want a change of scenery, they could put Worlds in Alaska. That's still pretty close to Japan :/
