Oh jesus, thank you!
DragonBall Z - Wii - 66,906

So, everything else under that sold less than that. Which is why PS3 titles were in the T50. Low sells all around it seems. Though, even more suprising is that Resistance came ahead of Gundam. Sure, the Gundam game is awful, but it's Gundam.

I was just happy to hear that DBZ BT2 made the top 30

And it definately deserves to be in the top 30, especially the Wii version, since it breathes new life into the game (to some degree)

If I recall correctly, the Gundam franchise hasn't had many critically accalimed (sp?) games available. Not only that, but the only franchise that I know of that had Gundams in the game and did very well was the Super Robot Wars/Super Robot Taisen series.

Here's the pac-charts and graphs for 1/1-1/7. :D

"Gundam" and "good game" are typically not used together in a sentence. At least, not without the word "not" in there somewhere. Gundam Musou might change this, we'll have to wait and see. At any rate, despite this, Japanese still love them some Gundams, so the stuff sells regardless.

Just so we're clear, Sony stated they shipped 1 million consoles to Japan. And I hear they are in PLENITFUL supply there. Liek, "you can't get through Akihabara without tripping over one" plentiful. :p

Quote of the day
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves said:
We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even if it didn't have games.

EDIT:
Yay charts!

I think that some of those stats are a little misleading.

I personally think that DS and DSLite are the exact same thing as far as hardware sales go, because they both play the same software. Yes, there are differences in the hardware. However, people buy one or the other, but not both. Same thing for the GAmeboy stuff. That being said, the hardware sales of each generation look a little more like this:

Hardware - This Week | Last Week | 2007 | LTD

1.) Nintendo Wii - 93,708 | 195,331 | 289,039 | 1,208,682
2.) Nintendo DS - 89,328 | 344,943 | 434,281 | 14,439,960

8.) GameCube - 611 | 1,258 | 1,869 | 4,171,337

Not a whole heck of a lot of change on the weekly performance, cuz the newer systems always outclass their older cousins. However, I wanted to look a little closer at the LTD numbers. PS2 is still king in that department, and I don't think that any system is poised to take over its 20 million mark at any point in the near future. That being said, the DS is performing admirably well, considering that it's less than 5 years old. 14 million sales in less than 5 years? That's pretty good. It's catching up to the product that it wasn't supposed to replace, but actually did, GBA. PSP is left so incredibly dead after the onslaught of DS and GBA that it isn't even funny. DS has outsold PSP by about 3 to 1.

The phun stuff comes in the Next Gen consoles. Wii is destroying everything in its path. PS3 is faltering badly, and the Xbox is a joke in the Japanese market. Wii has a 2 to 1 edge on the PS3, and a 4 to 1 (almost 5 to 1) edge on the Xbox, which was out a year before the Wii.

It looks like the Wii is dominating the Next Gen sales thus far. I'm not drawing any conclusions yet (FF13 has yet to come out), but with faltering sales, losing exclusivity to key franchises (and losing a couple completely DQ), things aren't looking good for Sony right now. I think that their only hope for the PS3 to win this console war is for the BluRay to win the proprietary format, which is unlikely considering Sony's track record in this area (Beta, Laserdisk, etc)

Misleading wasn't the intention in so much as showing which versions are more popular. I think I will add a DS/GBA total at the bottom from now on though.

I'm interested how much FFXIII will affect sales. There are already a mountain of PS3s available there (for much cheaper than we get them here, mind you) so as soon as it launches we'll be able to see the immediate effect. However, who knows when FFXIII will be able to release. Might not even be this year. Two numbered Final Fantasy games two years in a row (barring GBA remakes) is quite unusual. Though, my this time the Wii should have a rediculous lead and I'm not sure if FF could even let the expensive PS3 catch up. It will definately be interesting.

I'm not talking intention, but that's the result anyway, especially in the Total column. The weekly doesn't seem to matter much, but those totals are quite interesting in the handheld department.

Oh, and just a question. Did Xbox just, like, not sell any units in Japan this week?

lol anyway, the xbox/360 hardly sell at all in Japan unless a fighter or RPG comes out. See Dead or Alive 4 or Blue Dragon

I wouldn't be quick to generalize that much. If I recall correctly, Enchant Arm didn't do much for the system. Moar like it doesn't sell until some HIGH PROFILE RPG is released on the system.
