Yamato Marathon: We're not Worthy!

A great player, no doubt. Best in the World, yeah, last year.

This year too Advisor. NOTHING against Jeremy- what he accomplished was amazing and kudo's to him for winning it all!

But like Steve said, Michael was the best b-ball player on the planet - even the years his team didn't win it all.

You can use the same analogy w/ Tiger ( since golf- like Pokemon- is an individual sport). Nobody on the planet is better, yet he doesn't win every week.

You had to be there to understand where Steve and I are coming from.

I'm not easily impressed, but what i watched Sunday night was awesome! And make NO mistake- it was the player, not the deck he was playing.

And I totally agree. Give " Rich" an invite next year! Then we will see if we are being ribbed or not :)

Well , despite that he wasn't in the pool area anymore.I dont see any need to split hairs on that.

Did anyone ask him why he played Ludi instead of his ZRE? I saw Go playing during the main event, and his list was not as good as the one Yamato played on Sunday. If Yamato had played that ZRE list then he would have won (save for something exceptional happening) imo. Pablo, I'm not saying you're wrong, and I take nothing away from Nidoqueen, but NOTHING autowins against that list. In hindsight, I would say it was the best choice for Worlds 2005, with Nidoqueen possibly being second.

i heard that the deck Yamato used on sunday was Go's, Yamato's zre had mew ex in it thats why he didnt use his zre he didnt want to play without his mew i guess =/

I didn't say He was obsessed with playing everyone, just that He cares more about the game than you and I do, and I care about it a lot. He is an incredibly dedicated player, and that and the invincibility we attribute to Him makes Him so good.

He isn't invincible.

what about a deck list?

i don't think is a problem since is not HL on (dual ball)

how about you get your own decklist. i know whats in it

we ll find a replacement for dual ball or its gonna get reprinted i bet.

the whole team achamo (torchic was cool)

guy on their shirts was Ueki (ricky in english). their team leader who unforturnetly couldnt make it.

we hanged out as cool-dude said and split pizza and just talked til dawn hours. later around 6 we went to swim with Go.

in the end the experience was cool and cant wait to meet up with their crew.

His Mew/Trode deck is so great. With R Raikou and Rayquaza(DR) and some Aipoms. lol we wouldn't even LET him get up. Then finaly he got tired so Goh took his place but then he just started playing again at a different table.

Yamato is a learning experience for us, why? Not because he kicked butt both last year and this year, but because he's a quality person, with quality skills, and a quality attitude. However...

Don't let that discourage you. Honestly, if you're a competitive player with a competitive spirit, why settle with Yamato being better than you, like SO many other people? Forgive me if this sounds cheesy, but every single player has the same potential to be great. Don't give me crud about supplies, because Jermy didn't even own half the cards in his deck, and yet he still won worlds. After what happened at THIS year's worlds, AND last year's, I personally am resolved to completely obliterate all opponents, including Yamato, Go, and their mentor, Rich. Yamato whooped my butt round one of worlds 04, and since then, I've been on a campaign to get better. Don't become submissive to his skills, but rather just learn from them. =)

I think anyone who watched Yamato play on Sunday night would agree that he is the best player in the world. I went 0-2 against him with my Ludi, I got bad luck in both games but I probably would have lost anyway. He plays flawlessly, but I agree with Moss that psychological intimidation is a factor that works in his favour.

Some of the guys there were asking Go about who he thought the best Japanese players were, and he said that they were all about equal, but I would say Yamato > Go and the others are no better than the top players from other countries, including America. On a side note, the 10- Japanese kid seemed like a pretty amazing player too, it was somewhat surprising that he didn't make top 8 or higher...

My son played his Metagross/Slaking deck against him and totally owned him. Too bad he kept getting outdrawn at worlds and never matching up against T2 decks. He went 4-4. Slaking owns ZRE. You don't get to use powers from Zappy, Ray, Macargo, or Electrode ex. He was one of the few that beat him that night. It was pretty cool of Yamato to sign his Slaking. For all I know, he might have wrote LUCKSACK on that card in japanese.

does anyone know of a way Yamato could be reached via internet? like, does he have email?

and whats the fish web page that translates into other languages.... doddlefish? er sumthin?

<>< rokman

Slaking is popular in Japan. Slaking has dominated the past 8 Months in Japan. :).. any Slaking here? Nope... Zre was the choice :)

Just as a matter of record...

A dozen or so of us, as we did last year, wanted to have an HL on tournament & went to the open play area for it.
After getting all the entrys we had an odd # of players.
It was about our 1st round that Yamato & his group came in by us. I'm not sure how it happened, but it was then that Yamato played our player with the bye. Next round the same thing happened & it snowballed from there.

I had to wonder if Yamato really knew what he was getting himself in for or if thats what he wanted. I tend to think that if he had only wanted a few games he might have left after that, but he kept on staying & playing. But then again he might me too nice of a guy to leave when there's a throng of people waiting to battle you.

I'm also wondering if it would be possible that next year after the closing ceremonies if something like this could be done along with Yamato & more of his group on an informal basis. I know my son played him once & played GO like 5 times & this just made the perfect day for him.
