Luckily there's nothing in this set (so far) that's as ridiculous as what we got in SF.

Power creep is kind of an inevitability - card creators have to give us something better with almost every set or else there just won't be a reason to purchase new cards anymore. with that said, I don't see much in this set that is as blatantly luck or power-based as Stormfront or Platinum both were. to be fair, there were actually lots of fun cards in both of those sets, but they were overshadowed by those cards that just broke the game: gengar, machamp, gyarados, the Cyrus engine, dialga, etc.

do you see anything in this set that just outright OHKOs a Pokemon for 1 energy like machamp could? I don't. neither do I see anything quite as annoying as gengar, a card that could snipe my claydol or other support for 1 energy while getting to flip for extra KOs. sweet! or gyarados of course. the closest thing in this set to SF is luxray, which has a drawback to its attack and is a stage 2.

the EXs? yes, they're powerful. but they give up 2 prizes. Exs back in the day (stage 2s) had a ton of HP, but we still managed to play with and around them. if they become too powerful, I'm sure a counter will be printed. not somethin like machamp but perhaps a card like desert ruins. to me, the benefit of having heavy HP EXs in the game is the fact that it backs away from a potential OHKO format (with cards like magnezone, reshiram, and zekrom) to having Pokemon that can stay in play for more than one turn while not slowing the game down.

But the Beartic art is amazing.

Actually this one of the best sets for artwork I've seen for ages.
 
Mushama is cool but in a format with catcher a 100 hp 3 retreat benchsitter that cant attack doesnt have any use. Maybe with Vileplume..
 
Did anyone happen to notice Musharna's Ability: Vision? Being able to look at the top 2 cards and take 1 card into your hand every turn is quite something.

I have a feeling this card will be thrown in every deck, since our format right now has no draw power.
 
From what I can read (and my Japanese is somewhat limited so take this with a grain of salt):

Amoonguss' ability poisons and confuses the opponent, but I'm not sure how. Its attack does 20 + 30 for a successful coin flip
Zen Darmanitan appears to do 50x the number of coinflips for each energy attached to it (I recognize "this Pokemon's energy", "coin", and "50x" lol)
Arcanine's ability burns the opponent, but I'm not sure how. Its attack text contains "coin" and "discard two energies"... my guess would be "Flip a coin, if tails discard two energy"
Chandelure's second attack involves discarding energy from itself and burning the opponent, but I'm not sure how many energy.
Bisharp's second attack does 20 more damage for each metal energy attached.
Sky Arrow Bridge stadium: lowers retreat cost by 1 for each energy attached?
Dento/Cilan: I'm positive the text on Cilan involves three energy. I think it says to go get three energies (presumably basic) from your deck, put them into your hand, and shuffle your deck afterward.

Haven't bothered attempting to translate other cards yet, I'll probably wait for pokebeach to do it :p

There's some Kanji I'm not familiar with, but I'm positive the text on Cilan involves three energy. I think (but might be wrong about this part) it says to go get three energies from your deck, put them into your hand, and shuffle your deck afterward. I'll add it to the other crudely translated cards in my list above. :p

Edit: Just noticed the text on Cilan ends exactly the same way as Heavy Ball and we know Heavy Ball says "...put it into your hand and shuffle your deck afterward". So now I'm more confident in that translation.
 
Looks like we're getting Pokemon Center as a Stadium. I wonder what the effect is. I remember hearing that one came out in Japan that healed 10 damage from each Pokemon between each turn, but the only numbers I see on this one are 1 and 20.

Also really wondering what Skyarrow Bridge (the other stadium) does.
 
It involves retreating. From my limited Japanese skills it looks like it reduces retreat by one for each basic energy attached. -_-; Gardevoir just keeps looking better and better.

EDIT: I think Amoonguss' poison + Confuse is a coming-into-play power. So a lot like the older Magmortar.

It's not Rosie's, but I'll take it. :biggrin: While this and Collector are both in the format, it's like Rosie has come back to us. :thumb:

@BabyMario: It's... um... let's see. Attack is called Dark Penalty. If your opponent hasn't used a specific card on the Defending, the attack fails.
EDIT:Topspin's right, it's if they don't have a Tool attached.

Just noticed that Weavile does 90 for [D] . . .

That effect text better have some massive drawback.
