Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Idea for a Gym Leader system

I think the rules should be voted on as well. Battle Tower rules are great for this, IMO. I for one am used to the rules, and it is a rather fair set of rules over all.

I like how my idea was ignored. Anyways to be polite, I'm carrying this quote from the gym leader election thread to here:

Because all the games had random leader types, we'll keep the most common types.

Water (3 Games)
Flying (2 Games)
Rock (3 Games)
Fire (2 Games)
Dragon (1 Game)
Psychic (2 Games)
Electric (3 Games)
Steel ( 2 Games)

This idea IMO does not work well. Notice that Dragon has only one game where it appears (G/S/C, Clair). Ice, Ghost, and Normal are examples of types that have appeared more than once and have proven themselves to be great types for things like this. Also, if Garchomp and Latios/Latias are banned, the Dragon GL will only have five Dragon pokemon to choose from (excluding NFE pokemon of course), which is severely limited. Ghost has 10 pokemon that can be used.

Also, like I stated earlier, Fire has no answer to Water except through Wildcards. What exactly makes a team a counter team I'd like to ask, one that seems to have been made to specifically counter someone else's team could just as easily been a team that wasn't planned to counter and had been used for many years. Would the Fire Gym Leader losing against a constantly flinching Choice Scarf Togekiss's Air Slash be considered a counter team to their team? What draws the line?

Another quote:
Dragon. I don't really know what to say for reason though. Isn't kind of unfair that members get to vote unless they get to actually see how good the nominees are?

Simply voting for pokegym members like currently planned will only get the frequent-posting pokegym members into the gym leadership. This sounds good, but I have a hunch that many of the people applying haven't been battling competitively enough. I'm curious as to how many people applying know about the basics of training their pokemon competitively, the IVs, EVs, natures, those sort of things. I'm also curious about how many applicants can provide actual online evidence of competitive play; I know I can if needed, but can they. I ask because I'm worried the leaders might become discouraged if they end up losing more often than they end up winning; and making badge earning too easy thus discouraging the players. Perhaps someone can test these applicants (maybe even vaporeon himself or maybe I could) to see how they can handle in battle.

You may not have noticed, but several people in this thread have already expressed interest in being a GL. I think being a "boss" is motivation enough for people. Also, who cares if it isnt a full-blown tournament. If we wanted a tournament, we would have one (there is one going on).

This is a fun imitation of the in-game system. If only 4 or so people make it to the finals, so be it.

this may be enough for about a month or two, but they will always want to do more, being boss is nothing, specially since they aren't really a boss of anything. and its only logical to bring a team to counter another. whats going ot be the limit, only 1 or 2 rock or eletrick type pokemon against flying? only one fire, fighting, or ground type pokemon against a steel team when challenenge. what if they bring 2 on a 4 on 4 battle. this is why its flawed.

i'm giving a few months before people start to get bored with it. main reason. not enough people, and the badge system does not suit the needs of real people

Suit the needs of the real people? What is that supposed to mean? Anyways, I stand by my point that the majority of this forum seems to be on board with this plan of attack.

Furthermore, we already discussed how we would allow the gym leaders some breathing room to avoid being countered. That occurred earlier in this thread.

What if Nintendo-( and I said "what if" to use this as an example)- announced one day that they have decided to hire say 35 people to be "gym leaders" for pokemon players to battle againts via wi-fi- on a 24/7 basis to accomidate to peoples daily scheduals and that if you wanted to earn an invite to worlds, you had to earn 8 badges to prove you have what it takes to compete against the best? (again- WHAT IF- and this is an example) How many people do you think would jump on this? I think all who want to go to worlds would have no problem with it.
I see plenty of support for this idea to not give up so easy- and NO- this is not on the big scale of support RUN BY NINTENDO WHO CAN STAFF THIS AND CALL ALL THE SHOTS
- this is being put together by MEMBERS OF THIS SITE who want to see this continue to progress into a fun activity for everyone to enjoy- with a challenge- collect badges- not another normal "tourny". I guess us "real people" who see an idea, input what we can to support it, put in the effort to get the idea off the ground, except the trial and errors while getting a solid format and well staffed- the rules- ECT...........ALL of it will turn into something that can be enjoyed by Pokemon battlers everywhere. EVEN IF IT LASTS ONLY FOR A FEW MONTHS- we can go back to the main idea again, fix what led to the downfall of the idea, and try again.
I also see this as another way to get in some good practice battles for worlds..........

You can use what you want, like your standard team. Just no team countering, like you said you would do. You would use whatever team you would use in a normal battle. So, its not flawed, you just have to respect that. If you know you are going to play against a fire gym, don't bring a team full of Rock, water and ground types. Thats team countering and should be avoided. This is to be a fun thing and to show skill that a player would have. No skill would be showen if you bring a team of Choice Scarf Ice Pokemon to a dragon type gym.

Back to back posts merged. The following information has been added:

If there was a new program like this, I would be a Gym Leader using Water and Normal types.

If you meet all the requirments, then leave a app here.

Ah, that probably depends on the GLs rules. Some may prefer to make it Auto lv 50, others like myself may prefer auto lv 100. It doesn't matter what level your Pokemon are in game, it reduces them or levels them to 50/100 temporarily if you didn't know.

Yeah. More then likely it will be auto level to 100. I don't know. All we need are some more people to sign up for this and we can pick out leaders.

This needs more attention drawn to it if we are going to get the ball rolling. I think this proccess has gone great, but we really are in need of not only GL's but people who will battle against them as well. The more people involved, the better this will run. It looks like we have enough interest for GL's, we need people to battle against.

Does ayone have any idea for the selection process. We can only pick 8 and we have about 10 already.

Heh, everyone was talking about voting at one point, but is that really fair? And if so, how do we set up the voting system (that could be complicated in itself). The most unbiased thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to have someone unbiased, like ultimate, do tryouts or something like that.

IDK, I'll try to give this a bit more thought. Anyone else got ideas?

EDIT: @around 1am pacific time: of course he would have to WANT to be in charge of this mess. We can't just assume he will do it. Hes been relatively silent in this thread for awhile.

As far as I can tell ultimatedra has been the most sensible person with the most solid rules and ideas. I vote to make them head of this operation and have them proposition one task at a time until it is complete. Who else agrees with this line of action?

Agrees with Assassin-
But we should ask Ultimatedra if he wants to do that, out of courtiousy.
