Mewtwo EX; Believe the hype

The hype alone whether you believe it or not will cause MewtwoEX to see a lot of play, but I don't agree with OP that you have little to no chance of winning without it. It just means that any deck being built must strongly take MewtwoEX into consideration. Dark Rush will hopefully make MewtwoEX seem a little less overpowered when it comes out. Personally, I can't wait to see people carelessly load energys onto Mewtwo just to get X-balled back.

Hi

Mewtwo EX is great card when It comes in to decks, Cobalion isn´t problem for it because Mewtwo doesn´t play without partner like Zekrom EX, Zekrom EX can usually OHKO Cobalion If it doesn´t have Eviolite with few Special Metal Energies... Reshiram EX is too much for Cobalion for sure, If it´s going to be good in its own decks like ReshiBoar or ReshiPlosion... I think Mewtwo is in same decks which play Reshiram EX too

Darkrai EX which comes later is little more problem for Mewtwo EX, That we see later when those cards are in play for everyone

I wouldn´t say that Cobalion can´t present Mewtwo with a problem. It locks his attacks, makes it retreat and can usually take one or two hits. You say Zekrom solves this problem, but you also mentioned that it cannot OHKO Cobalion with Eviolite and 2 Sp Metals. Normally, the Cobalion player is in the position to get those cards onto the Cobalion pretty fast (Usually Cobalion is used in CaKE), so there might be quite a problem with the Zekrom OHKO. Btw, after Strong Volt, Zekrom must retreat, because the Eel attaches to the Bench. That´s also one of Zekroms downsides.

You´re right, there´s almost no chance against Mewtwo/Reshiphlosions, but I am not sure how often such a deck will be played. The "pure" Mewtwo EX variants like Celebi or Gardevoir can take these decks easily, because they´re much faster and can OHKO Reshiram EXs, if there is enough Energy on them which is usually the fact.

Unfortunately Cobalion doesn´t fit in any Deck and is IMO too slow in anything other than CaKE.

@Otaku: Weezing is also unreliable, because he can´t OHKO Mewtwo with Eviolite, so there will be another turn for Mewtwo to cause Chaos on your side of the field.

Mew beats Mewtwo. In the movies. And in the movies...*shades*...Mewtwo CAN strike back.

That was really bad. But like any movie to real life comparison, it doesn't beat it a lot. I suppose MewScoop can but I've never tested.

Why are we talking about Cobalion and Mew, when Chandy's still out there? 100 with Burn and Confuse, hit the bench while you do it...boo yah.

If you're playing Chandelure why would I ever play down a Mewtwo though? I'll just play my other EXs or even my dragons to attack it. Mewtwo would be my last resort.

exactly what is going to happen *ahem* OVERHYPED

Except Gengar Prime realied on a different card to win. Plus, it was a stage 2 and 130 HP. While MewTwo EX is a Basic, has 170 HP, has a pokemon tool it can utilize to even make it harder to OHKO. Plus MewTwo EX can fit in any deck. They hype is totally different than that of Gengar Prime

This thread is a better reason to enter the Pre-Release for Next Destinies. Not just Mewtwo EX, but also Prism Energy, Skyarrow Bridge, Cilan, among other amazing cards in the set itself. Hopefully it will ease the problems I'm having in my metagame or perhaps help my decks have better matchups against popular decks in the current format.

We know of the Japanese metagame... but we aren't the Japanese metagame. We have different people, some of us have radically different play styles, and most importantly we have/will likely still have different card pools. Vastly? No, but a little different. The timing of when a card is released can really matter; it can be hard to predict how pending tournament series will treat a card. Something daring might see less play being released around Regionals than it would have seen at a Cities...or perhaps not.

Nah, I won't change my sig, I'll keep it. And our meta has always been different then theirs, but MewTwo EX dominated for a reason.

Japan's format is always different from ours regardless of sets released due to different format for play. If I remember correctly, Ttar prime was destroying their format for a while but did nothing here

You can't really compare the past with now in this instance. The T-Tar dominance you mention was in a PL-on format, a format we never had. Right now, however, our format is the same as theirs, although they are a few sets ahead. So looking at how things were there when they had the same cards is a very good idea, and relatively good indicator of how things will work out here.

Also, we now have Esa's blog, The Deck Out, which has been giving us very, very good insight into Japan's meta, which is something we've never had before. In the past, what we "knew" about Japan was all unconfirmed rumor; now we have a direct link to Japan. Their meta has already significantly affected ours this season. CoKE and Six Corners, ESPECIALLY Six Corners, possibly would never have been played here without Esa's reporting on Japan.

So I'd say that, when Esa says Mewtwo EX will dominate upon it's release, I'm inclined to believe him. Of course, he also said that come Dark Rush that dominance will be far less, so that is interesting too.
