Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Worlds Being On TV????

There are reasons I believe this should be done and reasons I believe it shouldn't.

Arguments for Worlds being on TV:
o1. It would promote playing the game.
o2. It would give some players an extra initiative to make it to Worlds. The 'Cool, Mom, I'm on TV' factor.
o3. POP Could profit from DVD Sales, more merch, and would likely draw in more money from the players they're broadcasting to.
o4. More of a push to sell the TCG Championship Decks.

Arguments against Worlds being on TV:
o1. The Shyguy factor (players being camera-shy or having their concentration broken by cameras being there).
o2. The Not So Proud factor (players in my age group whom are, unfortunately, ashamed of the fact they play the game and don't want others to know that they play it. It's sad but true for some. People think this is true about me due to an odd ritual I have at tournaments: I wear a wig. No joke. I stick out like a sore thumb. See a guy running around with silver hair, scream out 'Armored Mewtwo' and he should turn around.)
o3. Possibility of a bad reaction from the fans and potential players, if attempted incorrectly.

In short: If you do it correctly, then it could work. Along with Top Cut, other matches should be included (with PERMISSION of both players) to serve as filler material.

I support the idea, and would love to see this occur in the near future.

when they "broadcast" the top 2 at worlds the cameras are set up in such a way that the only thing you can see is the play area and cards in play. Players are told to keep their hands behind a certain line on the play table, so you don't even see the cards in their hands. For the "shy" guys out there, you're not even aware that you are being filmed because the camera is from above so it's not distracting at all.

And I, too, would enjoy seeing more of the top4 and t8 matches.

One thing you have to realize about video is that it's logistically difficult to setup. Some of you seem to think that a lot of the coverage you see on TV happens with minimal effort, when in fact it takes a great deal of time to plan, set up, edit and fine-tune, and that's for prerecorded content. Live video would take even more infastructure. I think a better idea would be to do a documentary-style feature (similar to Wordplay).

I don't think it would be that hard to do really. They could just do a live stream on a site, I'm pretty sure that we'd be happy with that.

Haha thanx

yea it would bring many new players
in also pokemon incorporation would be raking in alot of cash....LOL
but they should have the cameras just around every where
watching everything
and then when a match is getting tense they should go straight to that mathch
and also the camera guy should be walking around every where broadcasting ppl....

Look a title

Now this is what I was talking about.

What if that awesome match is with a person that doesn't like cameras?

The majority of all of you are thinking that this is a good idea, which to an extent it is, money wise, more players.

But at what cost?

Let's say 20% of the people are camera shy, and they say they don't want to be on any camera at all.

What would happen if any of you go any where near them with a camera, or worse see that your taking video of someone else?

I know from personal experience that I hate cameras, and the very moment I see one the only thought that goes through my mind is: "Get that thing away from me, or I'm leaving."

I'm not bullying the topic, but i think this is what the higher ups are going to think.

ok well you got a point
but atleast someone could atleast try to do it
ill try to find the number of pokemon-tcg and ill call them and ask lol

I'm still hoping that this thing never gets implemented.
Don't see anything beneficial to it that can't be done by other means.

Well, we'll all see tomorrow whether this passes or not. I will continue to say that I'm 100% against this idea. Maybe, if they say no, you could tell all of us why. I'm not saying they will refuse but I'm just saying. Well that's my 2 cents.:frown:

You also have to worry about scouting. That's one reason I suggested the documentary format-everything would be released after the event. You also have to consider the audience-you can have wall-to-wall coverage, but it might not be much better for most people than selected covrage here or there.

@Pat: I'm not in the production industry, so I'm not certain that I know how much it would cost to live stream the top 8 of a tournament, but I think POP/TPCI/PCL/whoever could recoup some of their losses by streaming the feed to an ad-supported page of their site. It might not work out perfectly, but I think that'd be a good way to balance some of the costs associated with something like this.
