I have passed the professor test 2 weeks ago, actually I was the second Belgian Pokémon Professor. I had to fax the the parental consent paper. But Wizards Belgium tought it was an 'ordinary' parental consent paper. So I called Wizards Belgium wednesday and I explained that I had already taken the test, so he sent an e-mail to confirm the Professor Program registration. I hope it will be on the site soon.

Congratulations on passing the Professor Test! [Bounce]

From what information you know already regarding the current level of play in Europe and in Belgium in particular, why is it that you are unhappy about the level of support there is for Pokémon, and in particular, for older players this year?

Let us know soon,

Regards

I'm not really unhappy about the tournaments in Belgium. It's just the fact that untill now only one professor event is confirmed. Amsterdam isn't that far (for mr), but don't they know loads of people from 15-18 (and younger, it's a Stadium Challenge) have exams then. For me, They will have just started when the Stadium Challenge is, so I won't be able to come. That isn't that badly, they can't take account of everyone, but ther is only one (untill now). I would even like to travel to Germany or something (IF there was one).

I just took the Professor test again and I passed (again [Smile] ) with 41/50. But I still get the same word document. I'll just have to wait. I hope they will receive the confirmation.

Same with me, I just get the word document. I assume we're supposed to get only that, and that's our way to register.

Cedric,

Like FreddyK said ... welcome in the Pokegym [Wink]

I'll have copies of the petition at the tournaments in Aalst (17/3) and Destelbergen (24/3). Kristel has copies for Antwerpen (tournamant on 17/3). I'll give copies to Jean Marc too for the league and tournament in Vise.

Golduck, FreddyK and other TE members ... an European petition for 15+ events at the Challenges ? What do you think of the idea ?

cedric 15,

welcome to WizPoG and professorship...

I am afraid that WotC have never been very clever at planning we at least considered where the major UK holidays were before planning our normal tourneys but Wizards dictated the 7th April as the date for our Gym Challenge.

I hope the dates have been arranged to fit in with Worlds and to give any winners chance to get used to any new sets that will be played and any rules changes.

Good luck and well done ..

Monday morning. [Frown]

No Neo:Destiny in the UK for three weeks.
No league pack for ten weeks since Promo Igglybuff.
No news about the UK Challenges or the Prof Program through league and the first event is now 3 weeks and counting.

Two replies from Lee saying 'I'll get back to you soon', two weeks after initial contact.

No appearances on the boards from WotC-UK, or WotC-Europe.
No information of the 'Challenges' on the European website and we've passed through the first ones already.

Could things possibly get worse than they are already? Yes - but I can only hope that they don't.

Does anybody know how you access the UK website from the Pokemon International Pages?

I am still using the following link:

http://www.wizards.com/uk

to get there but I notice as Freddy K has stated before that there is now no link via the Pokemon site at all to the UK and there are no details of UK leagues or events on the European site.

Even if you follow the link above the information there is on the 2000 Mall Tour !!!

Even the League list is out of date. Now either the UK has not sent the required info to the Website designers or the Web Designers and Managers are letting it all slip ... now which do I think it is mmmm... judging on past and present performance I don't think it is down to the web designers and managers.

After all for a very brief moment you could get details of UK leagues off the European site.. where are they now?

If the Professor programme and organised play are going to survive and prosper in the UK it must be in partnership with WotC UK and not inspite off.

So far we are doing a lot of the work and WotC has put up the prizes .. thank you .. but not advertising the events and not advertising the leagues dooms us to failure.

Either that's a deliberate ploy or just incompetence either way if Pokemon is to survive in the UK we must have support from WotC UK not half promises and excuses.

When the league kits fail to arrive in a timely manner it is a pain.

It then became a bit of a joke : late, parts missing, wrong bits supplied.

Now? Well despair sets in! Season 5 finished, and after a delay of a couple of weeks we ploughed on to season six regardless. Season six has a week left to run in our badge books and STILL NO LEAGUE KITS. One week left plus a couple of weeks 'grace' and we WILL be starting season 7 with or without the league kits.

The prospect for ever getting to season 8 looks extreemely slim. [Frown] [Mad] [Frown]

---------

I do hope that one of the MTs can visit the UK at the April 7th Challenge at Rainham. Cos I know what I'm going to be asking for.

As a backup plan... do any USA gym leaders have spare stickers badges and promos left over? I'm more that willing to pay shipping costs plus.

I suspect that a few of the other UK Gym Leaders would be willing to chip in also.

Hoping for a more reliable source that WotCUK

Hi NoPoke,

I hope you don't mind me slotting you into the DCI reporter BIG chair for the 7th? Lee said he will have the latest version with him on his Laptop for us to use.

As to league kits yep more than willing to chip in for shipping costs.. Lee told me the kits should have shipped last week or the week before or wednesday but not which year [Wink]

Looks like season one repeats itself ....

that is ends with the 5th promo and broken promoises...

Hi guys,
Just received an email from the Swedish Distributor. Gym Challenge I Sweden this year will with 99% certainty be on the 29th of June in Gothenburg! I don't know if they will have anything at all for 15+ but I still hope for it even if it won't be a regular Professors tourney....I'll let you know asap when I have this 100% confirmed.

Breaking news!
Actually (phone call with WotC Italy), it seems like the Italian Stadium Challenge will be the National Tournament in Ravenna, in May!!! ...still no Professor info, but it seems like they'll have more details in a week or two. Also, the Milan Gym Challenge is going to be in less than a week... (Think hopes he could get there [Smile] ).

PS: I passed the Prof Test 4 times, losing the (signed) Parental Consent papers EVERY TIME (sigh)... as soon as I get to fax them this time I'll be a Professor! Whoohooo!!!

Yes, it could be even worse. My League has STILL not received any single promo card at all! Not even the Season 1 Promos! [Mad]
It's now 5 weeks since we were promised to get our Promos. We've still got Badges, Badge Books and so on, but what the kids want is Promos! They're starting to lose their faith in me and Super Psyduck, we promise them Promos for the next week at the end of every session!
To say it frankly: I'm tired of Wizards Europe!

Golduck: Get lesson one. Never ever make promises you are not 200% sure you can keep. You can promise them that you will try to get the promo's there for next week but if you keep promising them that they WILL get them next week you are in deep waters.

As long as you don't have them in your hand. Don't promise anything. It would look so much better in the long run.

Golduck, what are you missing? Season 1 . Is that Violet City/Zephyr Badge?

I can't help with badges as WotC only sent me 10 despite repeated requests. I probably have a few promos and stickers left, though I did swap 20 Togepis to get 10 more badges. I have got Season 2 & 3 stuff but it starts to get a bit bare with season 4. Season 6 is still only a dream.

The kids don't even bother to ask if the League Kits have arrived any more. (Previously they used to speculate as to what might be missing.)

Grrrr

Just an idea ... and some questions.

As we all know, Wizards has been bought by Hasbro in 1999 and is now a division of Hasbro.

What's the impact of the structure of Hasbro on the structure of WotC ?
In other words, which is the exact influence WotC USA could have on the European offices according to the structure and instructions given by Hasbro ?

What's the impact of Hasbro's decisions concerning the different Pokemon markets ? We don't know if, even if WotC wants to do it, Hasbro wants to promote our game in Europe for example.
As far as I know, the office of WotC France in Paris has been closed by Hasbro France ...

If you look at the Hasbro US web site, you find information and links to Wizards and Pokemon.
If you do the same with the sites of Hasbro France, Belgium or UK, there is not a single word about Wizards or Pokemon [Confused]

Now that the 'Pokémon wave' seems to be over, is Hasbro still interested in the product ?

I'm maybe completely wrong, but it seems quite strange to me that a company like Wizards would have so different approaches on different markets (USA and Europe).

Like MT's and Keith Strohm clearly said, Wizards is a commercial company and they live to make money.

I'm not a businessman, but if I'd want to make profits on a product abroad, I'd give clear instructions to my offices about what they have to do to promote the product and I'd ask them to justify why sales/profits/promotion are not as high as expected ... unless other instructions have been given to me.

If I read what has been written in this topic about Europe, what is done in Europe to maximize the Pokemon sales and profits isn't really clear to me [Evil Smirk]

Two examples ? No Neo Destiny in the UK and no communication or advertisement about the Gym Challenges. How do you want to promote a game and increase sales like that ?

Once again, I'm maybe wrong, but I wonder if WotC is free to do what they want on the European market.
Are we knocking at the right door about Pokemon in Europe ? Maybe are there other people to contact too, I don't know ...

Michel,

please be aware that I was able to get Neo Destiny within 5 days of the US launch.

I have had no problems getting hold of supplies from my distributor, one of WotCs recommended deistributors in the UK.

If there has been a problem with supplies it sits with the retailer as far as I can see.. that is they are not ordering the stock.

Now this could be down to WotC UKs total lack of promotion and support of the game and the fact that full focus at WotC UK seems to have been on MtG and Harry Potter.. with that in mind it is interesting to see my distributor offloading HP at under half trade price just to get rid of it.

And this despite a massive focus from WotC on it and the Sports CCGs instead of Pokemon.

It does still seem that because they do not control the product they are less inclined; at least outside of the US to support it.

Now we are marketing this product for them and at present with little or no support from our local offices. The interpretation of global goals at a local level seems to have missed something unless the message that they get is different to the public message WotC proclaim.

Last year we saw that with the whole 15+ debacle and the still to be heard go and play magic line..

I do hope that it is not Brand Management raising their ugly misconception again?

Golduck/NoPoke,

I am missing badges too and have run out of the Zephr badges completely can I join in with you guys trading ? ...

It's plainly DISGUSTING to see Gym Leaders having to TRADE INTERNATIONALLY for League Badges and promos.

WHY is there NOTHING being done at ground level about this issue?

[Mad]

After all we have said repeatedly. I had go better calm down. Some deck in my room needs some MAJOR shuffling.

Neo:Destiny? I have found E-bay to be more reliable (see you did too, NoPoke [Razz] ) and at the prices they are on offer, if WotC-UK don't want the money I'm ready to pay for them then I'll save it for something else instead. [Roll Eyes]

ukpokemonpro is right in that Destiny is available from SOME distributors. One of the distributors that I use still says that Destiny is not available at the moment and another is getting some real soon now. They have had a few boxes in but sold these very quickly.

Even when talking to wotcuk they were unsure of the release date and if all/some of their distributors would be stocking Destiny.

So I talk to a new UK distributor but the 500pound MOQ is too much for this little league, after some work on the phone I find another distributor that has stock and will sell them to me: 3 box MOQ. Yipee!

The whole thing seems to have been messed up in the UK: even when Destiny was available, wotuk did not KNOW where to get them from or how to help yours truely to actually BUY the product.

That was the impression that I got anyway.....

I notice from my latest purchase that the product was shipped to the UK by WotcUK's Netherlands based distributors.

yes Freddy I have bought a box of 1st Ed destiny using eBay, yet to hear from the USA based retailer though [Frown] There's also the possibility of HM Customs&Excise hitting the import for duty+VAT. The last box I bought from ebay (revelation) was returned to the vendor by the US postal service. they thought that the pokemon cards might be an Anthrax risk!

'pro, I've already sent all my togepi promos to Golduck. He may have already despatched some badges. That said I'll share what I get.

Think I need to start a thread in Tournaments with a plea for US GLs to help out with season 6 and the missing bits from earlier kits.

Are there any other UK leagues out there that are missing bits? Same goes for Europe too [Smile]
