MasterMazakala,

no more news yet I will try to chase Lee again on Monday for more info.

In the meantime I wouldn't mind a rolecall of those Professors that can help out at the Gamers Guild on the 7th April.

I went to Outland (a card shop in Oslo) today. They had Neo Destiny too, so I bought 4 boosters and got another 7 with a voucher I had (from winning a tourney a few weeks back). I got these 4 Holos out of 11 boosters, and that's pretty good IMO. My holos were Light Dragonite, Dark Feraligatr, Light Azumarill and Shining Charizard! [Big Grin]

Gym Challenge in Belgium [Devilish]

City : Antwerp
Venue : Bouwcentrum
Date : Saturday April 20, 2002
Format : Modified
No Professor events

[Bounce]

Do you know what ??? I've bought a box of Neo 4 last Tuesday [Angel]
The shop in Ghent was closed on Monday, but the boosters were on sale on Monday in Belgium.

As far as I know, sales are really good at the leagues and the players I've met this week end are really happy with the set.

I've (I'd better say 'my daughter has, with my help' [Wink] )opened 50 boosters, and we still need 4 Holos and 5 Shining. These seem really hard to find.

Ukpokemonpro ... if I may help during the Challenge on the day of the tournament, you may count on me.

Other European subject ... the organizers of leagues and tournaments in Belgium have been invited by Wizards Europe this morning in Antwerp (during the Magic Grand Prix).

We've had the opportunity of meeting and talking with all the people involved in Pokemon at Wizards Europe.

The contact with them was excellent, and I may assure you that they really want to bring our game to a higher level and do all they can do in that direction.

They know that communication with the community is a very important element for all of us, and they're working on that too.

When you talk with them, you feel that they're really enthusiast and involved in our game.
Even if they also have a lot of work and if some things could take some time to be fully operational, I'm very confident about what Wizards Europe want to do and will do for us and for Pokemon in the future ... [Smile]

I believe it will be a 'team play', them with us and us with them. We may not forget that we have our role to play, in a constructive and positive way. [Wink]

There is still no sight of Neo:Destiny in the UK, in the London area.

Game & Electronics Boutique are usually in stock of them... but we'll have to see now if they get them next week.

no problem 'pro, my friend may be able to get a discount for me anyway for boxes.
You must press Lee for UK Prof-event details.

The 2002 European Tour information has not yet been posted on WotC-Europe's site and we are still being asked to keep checking back for the most up-to-date information.

Okay. Rant mode on.

It's been two months or so since the European site was updated to the 'new' look although no new material has been added - in fact from what I see there are broken 'links' and links that just bring you to the original page. No information about leagues in England, the UK or in France means according to the WotC site, my nearest league is in Holland. [Mad] How on Earth are we supposed to attract players to league while this charade carries on? Does someone actually get employed to update the European site? Who can we contact, who has taken Harlan Levey's place? And why has WotC-UK and WotC-France died on us? Where are they, where are their events, where are their leagues, where are their articles, where is their encouragement?

Okay, click on 'Strategy' on the European site. You meet the following:

"The Pokémon Strategy articles, fan decks and other master trainer tips and tricks are currently available on the US/Canada Pokémon TCG site in English only."

Hmmm. So, that excludes French, Welsh, Dutch, German, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Belgian (they try their best with 3-4 National languages, still not good enough for WotC-Europe), Finland...
have I made the point?

Community resources and links - available in English only. Resources. "Resources? We don't need no stinkin' Resources!".

Hmmm. And someone gets paid to wonder why Europe's lagging in terms of Pokémon play and sales? [Roll Eyes]

The following 'links' on this page are all 'looped':

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=pokemon/eu/events

Two weeks after Neo:Destiny's 'supposed' worldwide and European release - no Neo:Destiny in UK shops reported. There is really no presence of WotC-UK on the web or on these boards. I've emailed them for replies to questions about Neo:Destiny's general release, and of the Professor events planned for this year. Nothing.

I really have the feeling that once again, the UK will be sending no representative to 'Worlds' this year. If that's the case then what hope is there for maintaining the game, between the ten or so 'Professors' who are doing their bit in the country right now. When will things look brighter for UK players, i.e. when will the UK truly mirror the US?

Because so far, things are not happening at all.
Looks like all my chances for 'Worlds' rests on Amsterdam on June 9th...

Yep I was ranting at the missus this morning that the WotC UK site was still showing Mall Tour 2000 info and despite a brief conversation with Lee the promised call back has yet to happen.

At the same time I received free, a glossy Sideboard magazine filled with MtG info and details of tourneys but no Pokemon.

Come on WotC UK it's back to 2001 again, no info, no responses and frustration all round.

Agggggghhhhhhhhhhh......

Rant mode off.

Freddy are you going to help us judge too on the 7th or will you play the side tourneys?

FreddyK,

I do agree with you about the WotC site.

Here are some infos ...

Harlan has not been replaced by one person, but his work has been given to different persons according to their specialization. For instance, the person who's in charge with OP for Europe is now responsible for Pokemon OP too.

As I think we need a contact person at WotC Europe, I've already talked about that with one of the members of the team last Sunday, and I'll ask it to Felix during our meeting on Friday.

I think the site has not been updated for different reasons. They don't want to give information before everything is official. They've had a lot of work with the Magic GP in Belgium, and with Pokemon too.
The organization of the Challenges in different countries is more difficult and takes more time than organizing 4 Challenges in a single country [Razz]
The Prof program for Europe is a big thing too (Peter Coenen is the key person for that in Europe).
The translation in different languagues takes more time than to simply put information in English about 4 tournaments [Razz]

Don't forget it's a new team and they need some time. I do completely agree with the fact that they prefer to work hard on the Challenges, Prof program, leagues, ... instead of a nice website.
But I do agree too with the fact that there is a lack of communication with the European community.
I'm sure we'll see someone from WotC on the boards soon, ... I'll take care of that on Friday.

New team at WotC, new big events program, new Prof program, new website, new set, ... a lot of new things for them. Please be patient, I know they're working hard on all these things.

Leagues on the WotC site ... did you see which countries are missing ??? France and UK [Evil Smirk] All the countries of Wizards Europe are there, ... France and UK have independant offices.
About France, it seems there is no office in Paris anymore, the office has moved to the Hasbro headquarters. I've been told that, but have no confirmation.

Unfortunately, we see one more time that there are big differences between Europe, Italy, UK and France.
I don't know what happens in the other offices. Just like you I see what don't happen [Roll Eyes]

Please make no confusion between these offices and the European one as they're independant.

Remember what Keith Strohm said about that ... communication from the USA which will take some time.

Neo Destiny in the shops ? Once again, UK is in the hands of WotC UK [Wink]
Here you have another element in the game ... the distributors. The only thing I can say about the release of the set, is that in Belgium cards were on sale on the same day as in the USA.

Why are there different offices in Europe is a mistery to me. I believe that if all the countries were under the control of a single office, things would be easier. But that's just my opinion, and I don't want to interfer with the organization of the company.

No UK players at the Worlds ? I've called WotC UK some days ago and they've confirmed that the prize for the winner of each category at the 4 Gym Challenges was a trip to the Worlds.
No Professor is another question ... as we still don't know if it will be a Prof event in the UK.

Hope this help [Wink]

Okay I spoke to Lee again today and WotC have mistakenly given me his direct line number too

The format for the main tournaments for the under 10's and the 10-14's is Modified.

There will be side tourneys that will be modified, standard and rochester draft as people require.

The first prize is a trip to the World Championships in each of the 2 main tourneys.

There will also be booster prizes varying dependant on attendance.

Lee assures me that something should be coming out at the end of the week and that they are just trying to firm up the date and venue for the Northern Tourney.

Prices for entry at the Gamers Guild and I am told just about universally accross the country are -

under 10's - Ł3
10-14's - Ł5
15+ - Ł5 if participating in side tourneys

non-playing parents/guardians - Ł2

and judges - Free...

These are charged purely to cover the cost of the venue and prizes. Note the fee for non-playing parents/guardians maybe waived if numbers are sufficient and is only applicable at the Gamers Guild.

Prices at the other Gym Challenges may vary, please contact that Challenges TO for details.

NoPoke - Rochester is the format for the Prof tournaments in the USA, it may (WotC-UK [Mad] ) be the tournament format for a UK Prof event (will it happen? [ROFL] WotC-UK)... and the one in Amsterdam where the Schosses clean up in June. [Smile]

Michel,

I think we are on for a Prof event at UK GenCon and we need to push for our UK Judge at Worlds.

NoPoke,

Thanx for the offer I was sort of hoping you'd help out [Wink]

As for why Rochester no reason at all.. WotC UK are keen to say that side tourneys are down to us so we can have whatever we like .. So tell me what you want help run them and we are away..

I would think we can run to Standard and Modified side Tourneys and Drafts of whatever shape we want.

Hopefully there will be time at the end for us old dogs to play out a prof only tourney.

Freddy K,

I have 2 more boxes of Destiny arriving tomorrow,
it isn't down to the Distributors not having the product perhaps the shops just aren't stocking it this time round?

Lastly, for those of you coming to the Gamers Guild on the 7th April that require details on hotels in the area please email me and I will try to get you some telephone numbers, website addresses and prices. We have everything from a cheap pit to posh ones locally to suit your budget.

Ironic how WotC leave side events to us when they can't even get around to organising the main events themselves... still no news about any of the other events apart from yours. We are also still waiting for our Promos in league, nothing has arrived despite repeated phone calls. We are yet to receive Pikachu Snap promos, Surfing Pikachu, and Hitmontop. Ebay merchants are making a fortune! (Last year we never received Cool Porygons or Marsh badges even).

When will someone acknowledge our hard work and existence in the UK? [Mad]

'pro I concur we need to push for a Prof event with a Worlds place, it's only fair.
On a lighter note I have another Prof judge willing to help.

Lee told me that they were expecting a shipment of promo's this week and that they should be going out Friday?

Last years Promo debacle happened because when Warner Bros stores dropped the league WotC UK sent all the League kits back to the US [Roll Eyes] at the Guild we ended up with nothing after Holo Mew, I really would prefer it not to happen this year.

Neo Destiny will be legal for use at the upcomming Chalenges in the UK. But, and there's always a but. HOW DO YOU GET HOLD OF THE CARDS!

It's no wonder that sales in the UK are down, its nigh on impossible to get hold of boxes unless you import direct from Canada/USA. 1st edition? not a chance mate. I've finally found some unlimited boxes from yet another distributor.

I sell the boosters at League at a big discount from shop prices as a service to the players. or rather I'd LIKE to sell Neo4.

Come on Wizards. Theres plenty of demand on this side of the pond but precious little supply!

Grrrrrrrrr.

I think it's pretty clear that shops have now decided not to sell Neo:Destiny in the UK. Any cards have to be ordered directly through WotC-UK.

Like we have the time and patience to do that. [Mad]

Or, get them through e-bay. Like I have done for my Dark Gengars and Feraligatrs.

What other choice as players do we have?

Shops have decided not to sell Neo destiny in the UK ???

I'm not sure to really understand who has taken the decision (shop owners ? distributor ? WotC uk ? ...).
If it's true, I think a mail to Keith Strohm would be highly welcome [Evil Smirk]

Ukpokemonpro, I mail you today ...
